There is a pretty heavy split here between both games. I think SoI is easier and more shallow game, but SoI-A does have it's problems as well. It's pretty much a coin flip. If it was me, I'd say SoI-A, but if you can find SoI for cheap somewhere, it's not bad either

SoI has way less bugs and issues, but Ascension also has all of its contents and DLC plus more (also, the most annoying thing for me is that there are hundreds of events, buy you can't see which ones you've missing in Ascension).
Pick whichever is cheaper between SoI + DLCs and Ascension.

What's Zhang Lang's story?

Yuan Shao is already dead at this point in my playthrough, and the editor doesn't allow forces to break up or would have done something like that for my Lingqi's revenge chain events.

With how many necessary conditions the editor lack to make proper generic events, maybe I'll try to create some custom events featuring my donutsteels to satisfy mu autism. I'll post it here in the future if I do get to it.

It's a pretty fun game inspite of its many flaws (poor game balance, stupid duel/debate mini games). If you're a fan of the series, or just Three Kingdoms in general, then it's pretty worth checking out, and honestly, while it's kinda limited, the event editor really worths buying the expansion pack for.
