I've daily driven two AWD cars and I love/d them both. I didn't necessarily buy them because they were AWD, but I certainly don't/didn't mind it. Still DD one and sold the other a few years ago.

Is there any noticeable difference in handling between an FWD and AWD car?

Don't know about the Impreza but a lot of AWD cars have a RWD bias until you start losing traction in the rear and more power is sent up forward. Even then I don't know of any that go to 50/50 power distribution. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist, I just don't remember ever reading about a system like that.

Most don't, this is only really a thing on supercars. The only Imprezas with variable torque split are STI models with the DCCD, and even then it's driver controlled and not dynamic.

Pretty much all cars that are sold as FWD with an AWD high-end model are 50/50 like the mazdaspeed6 and Mitsubishi eclipse.

Great, yes it does oversteer if power through a corner, yes it does understeer if you lift off at speed. But nowhere near as much as fwd or red. Also you can brake later and accelerate earlier
