Ford is suing Geely

According to Automotive News, Ford feels the Lynk & Co name closely resembles its own Lincoln brand. As a spokesperson told the publication, "The Lincoln brand has a rich 100-year history and we intend to protect its reputation." The spokesperson added "We are taking legal actions to prevent them from using their infringing mark. Their name, as it stands, will confuse customers."

Didnt Ford try to sue a company a few years ago over something similar? I seem to remember a sketchy ass law suit.

They did successfully sue Porsche importers in the 50's when Porsche decided to name it's stateside 356 roadster the Continental.

>What's this?
>It's a Volvo
>Oh? Never seen that at the dealership.
>Well, it's a subsidiary of Volvo named Geely. In fact, it's an even smaller subsidiary of that company called Lynk & Co. This model is called the 01.
>IT'S A FURD? WELL IT AIN'T NO KINDA FURD I WANNA SEE ROUND THESE PARTS. IT'S GOT AN ASS BIGGER 'N FLATTER THAN MARY'S AND SQUINTY ORIENTAL EYES I CAN'T BELIEVE FURD'S DOING THIS.

t.Ford Legal

Whoops, misread Geely as a subsidiary and not the parent company for Volvo.

But yeah literally everybody would just call it a Volvo in passing.

I think they are more concerned about Chinese Lincoln sales.

>ford copies literally everyone
>they get "copied"
WOOOOOOOW WTF MAN

>suing a chinese company in china

6 months from now

>chinese courts have decided to drop the lawsuit filed by ford motor company, stating that no reasonable person could ever confuse Ford's Lincoln brand of automobile with the chinese manufacturer Geely's LIN-CONN marque. The courts also awarded frivelous lawsuit damages to Geely.

Ferrari. Ford sued Ferrari because Ferrari named one of their Formula One racecars the F-150. And Ford won. Ferrari was forced to re-name the car.

pretty much dis.

Ford BTFO

China has no Copyright laws.

Fucking Ford being retarded again.

I know right... Ford is fucked up right here.

A while back Ford sued Toyota because they were going to name the Tundra the T150

>chinese courts have decided to drop the lawsuit filed by ford motor company, stating that no reasonable person could ever confuse Ford's Lincoln brand of automobile with the chinese manufacturer Geely's LIN-CONN marque. The courts also awarded frivelous lawsuit damages to Geely.

This is what basically happened to Disney when it tried to sue each time a chinese company made a clone of each Cars movie. Disney lost every time. The judge ruled that the chinese movies were original works. After the suit is dropped by the chinese court, the company threatens to sue Disney for defamation. But no suits have yet been tried. Probably because the chinese judges want too high a bribe fee that the chinese company doesn't want to pay.

The chinese company cloning Cars even had the audacity to call theirs Autobots. I guess this settles the issue of Lightning McQueen being a miata, corvette, or whatever. He's none of those. Lightning McQueen is an Autobot.

Good thing the name Lincoln is a totally original work and not something Ford stole off of a penny.

How unsafe are these Chinese cars? Are they made of sheet metal and cardboard?

>it's a subsidiary of Volvo named Geely.
Geely is the one that copied GM cars. Then it tried to enter the usa market but failed. For the testing, it adapted (not copy) the GM car it was copying. It then put its Geely skin and interior over the adapted GM car and submitted that for testing.

Besides Lincoln, Geely and its subsidiaries have a history of copying higher-end cars. They also make pirate replacement parts for the high-end cars and sell them as OEM replacement. It's insulting when they even copy the rolls royce hood ornament.

The Geely GE at the 2009 Shanghai motor show looked just like the Rolls Royce Phantom. The copy was complete with an imitation hood ornament Spirit of Ecstasy atop its familiar-looking upright grille (only leaning forward rather than backwards). It also had a bizzare throne-style single seat for the rear passenger. The GE was designed with a retail price closer to £30k than the £250k you’d need to get into a real Phantom.

That's going to go well for Ford...

Made from only the finest Chinesium.

back to /asp/

Geely also made a Merc clone with a 90's Mitsubishi engine.

>Made from only the finest Chinesium.
My usa company uses metal billets from china. But we have to re-test everything to make sure the purity is good and that it doesn't have contaminating alloy-wrecking metals in it such as lead.

China builds good Aegis copycat missile frigates. They have stats (not verified under performance) of outgunning each USA ship on a one to one basis. And they make them cheaper and in greater quantity. ORACLE is superior to Aegis on paper. Well, the new Aegis has been upgraded this year so now it can compete with the Chinese version. The first of two Aegis frigates since 2012 is being built and will have the new Aegis.

China has it smart. Let the usa spend many billions developing systems. Then espionage copy it and improve it for vast cost savings. That way, it will even be superior to the original Aegis. The USA will run out of taxpayer dollars to compete with its expensive military since its social welfare program will be 20% bigger in the next 8 years due to birthrate and immigration growth in the number of users.

>lincoln
>a rich 100-year history

kek, have they ever even been relevant?

Chinese courts never side with foreign companies.

Lincoln has always been the #2 best selling luxury car company and was #1 in 1998, above BMW

>chinese brands copying other brands
>toyota

>chinese brands copying other brands
>toyota

>Chinese courts never side with foreign companies.
They do if those foreign companies are chinese-owned. There are lots of USA companies and USA brands that are chinese owned now.

Chinks are soulless beings with no imagination whatsoever. Who would have known?

>no imagination
They have imagination, and the ability to work. But a lot of these workers in china are completely trodden over by the employers who have government bribe support. So you have workers that are educated just enough to do the job because the employer doesn't want to improve the workers enough so that they leave to work for someone else. Thus training opportunities are deliberately lacking. Your parts are made with the minimum ability sometimes.

>Lincoln has always been the #2 best selling luxury car company and was #1 in 1998, above BMW

Lincoln cars are the preferred luxury car for the funeral of the great leaders of North Korea. Picture Related....

>transporting Dear Leader, who despises captialist USA, in a USA luxury brand vehicle
Do they even realize the irony behind this?

That's why they have always been at the top

Then the company should ship a new funeral Lincoln car to Leader Jong Un asap along with a note that he should use it soon.

I thought it was a Kia Sportage in the thumbnail
