I think I may have a lead on what got everyone banned. I never updated from a9lh but have been running 11.4 and actively using online on freeshop cias. I wasn't banned. Could it have something to do with boot9strap?

A9LH people have gotten banned. I think it's rather something faulty in the more recent versions of Luma that tip them off.

It can't have been something that changed in the last few weeks, Nintendo just doesn't spring when they see a vulnerability, they need time to test it. Why is the community split in two when banned/not banned? People need to give details on everything they've done before getting banned

There is a reason for the term wave. More bans are piling on in increments. Could be lots of flagged accounts in the crosshairs from all we can guess.

What we are almost 100% sure of is that whatever tip loituma submitted to their bounty program is what tipped them off and that insiders say it's likely something to do with Activity Log.

I've been on 11.2 with Spotpass and sending usage info to Nintendo enabled and I haven't been banned, but I also haven't gone online in ~5 months and have no friends on my friends list. A9LH, was on an older version of Luma until I updated to 7.0.5 just to be able to access the friends list to see if I'm banned.

We really should drop a link to the "have you been banned?" polls and surveys in the OP for the time being.

Well the theory would seem to be supported by a few people who claim they hadn't used their 3DS at all recently. Though no survey has been reliable enough to pinpoint what kind of timeframe we could be talking in terms of how long Nintendo might have been watching.

You probably want to delete the "Step 4" and "Step 5" bits from the Decrypt9 guide, since it doesn't use steps anymore

If Nintendo wants you to update to the latest system version, they stop you from going online with in friend list, so that you can't play games online. If I remember correctly that's how they blocked the tubehax exploit back when it was relevant.
If anything I guess they were smart enough to consider the browser could have been vulnerable and specifically put this kind of check before allowing you to use it.
The LocalFriendCodeSeed_B ban also stopping you from using Youtube is side effect of that.

we were 4 guys. 3 of them got their new3DS in january when it was still easy to hack the device. the fourth guy got it a few month later when it got harder to hack it coz of a newer stock firmwire
