Don't break your engine what the heck

The fuck were you driving? A rental Trabant?

I have never seen these signs.

What is the purpose of those signs anyway? Who am I hurting if I engine brake?

I thought they were only for trucks with jake brakes.
Anyway who else u turn on no u turn and left turn on red?

Noisy to delicate ears.

its for semi trucks retard. when they force air into the heads to slow down. it's called the jake brake AKA engine breaking.

This is only a thing due to the retards who take the muffler's off of trucks

your car

see
It's really fucking loud. The signs are usually near residential areas

they don't actually force air into the heads... air is inducted during the normal induction cycle, then the intake valve closes, cylinder moves upwards as per normal, then at roughly TDC (might vary between manufacturers) the exhaust valves open, releasing the compressed air, instead of allowing the compressed air to power the cylinder on the downstroke

tl;dr: jake brakes don't force air into the heads, they release compressed air before it can return energy to the cylinder

>break

Lads the entire point of a mischief thread is what you're doing isn't actually all that mischievous.

>Left turn on red
That's just reckless
Literal chink tier

>sign says "watch for rocks"
>keep my eyes on the road instead of on the rocks

>put turn signal on at light
>literally no one else around for miles

>20 mph speed limit on a tight canyon corner
>Doing 50

>mfw a semi starts engine braking right beside me when my windows are down

>driving at speed limit in slow lane on highway
>signal every time I merge with an on-ramp

>one way road with two lanes
>when no-ones around drive in the middle of the lanes

Playing "Doubles"

>Maintaining double the recommended speed limit around corners

>Drown kids in the flood

>yellow sign tells me to go 25
>go through at 55

Why would anyone want to ban this glorious engine noise?

Is engine braking the same as downshifting?
Im just learning manual and everyones taught me to use the engine more than brakes.

Depending on the situation, you'd either downshift or just stay in gear.

For instance, I used to commute down a big hill that started right after an intersection. At the green light, I'd accelerate up into 3rd gear and then then let up on the gas, letting the engine hold me at speed down the hill.

I think it's mostly for big trucks, specifically when they jake brake.

When I was learning I constantly used the engine to brake because I thought I was cool. Now I never do, it not like the brakes are going to wear out or something.

Ok stupid story time because this literally just happened to me and I need an excuse to greentext.

>be me, driving an AWD sedan of the turbo I4 variety
>go on a late night drive through my favorite canyon
>it's 1AM on a Thursday night. no way anybody will be around
>gonna be comfy
>approach one of my favorite turns, a recommended 50mph long sweeper going up hill
>I enter the turn going around 70, and floor it
>hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng
>right as I get to the end of the turn my radar detector goes off
>look at my speedometer
>110mph
>SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH
>cop's sitting on the side of the road maybe 1/8 mile away
>I manage to knock a bunch of speed off but I'm sure they got me. there's no way I'm getting out of this.
>nonchalantly go by, waiting for my mirrors to light up.
>nothing
>mfw

he was napping, or maybe doing some night time fishing
