Good shit boss. I have an mk5 jetta and realllllly want an mk2 for a project.
Shouldn't be that hard to find parts for depending on where you live.

>Local shop restores cars and puts them up front for sale
>Lot of beetles, vw buses, and 'stangs
>drive by one day and see a mk1 in the works
>mfw

Island volks shop? They sound exactly like that place.

go for the mk1

they're bulletproof, tiny, and handle brilliantly.

Also way better looking than the mk2 imo.

caddies are sweet too.

Terrible choice for your first car imho.
>Awe shit I wrecked my fist car and my legs have to be amputated fml desu senpai

get a piece of shit to learn on and not your eurotuner fantasy ride

Get a mk2

>80% of heavy injury accidents come from modern cars, per mile driven
It's all about the driver

Yes, do it. Do not settle for any other version.
Though mk1s are over 30 years old at this point, so you have to watch for rust, lots of parts will need to be replaced. hell, my Mk1 started leaking brake fluid from the back passenger brakefor no reason, and its been sitting for a month or so now. Fuel pumps also tend to fail on older VWs, and they have 2, one inside the tank and one external, so make sure those are running. Despite age and issues that will come up, I still recomend Mk1s, as theyre boxier and generally look better (who need 4 lights anyways?)

I have a mk1 Cabriolet and everyday I wish it was a GTI, or atleast a regular golf.

Still love it to bits.

Follow your dreams.

>Coworker bought a somewhat decent Mk 2 Golf 1.6 diesel for 450 euros.
>500 euros later the car is factory fresh.
Now he intends to drop a 1.9TDI from a Mk 3 Golf in that car and make it somewhat of a DD, reliable sleeper.
Even with this 70 bhp 1.6TD the car has gotten to 140kph confirmed.

It may not be the most powerful car in the world, but a factory restored Golf 2 is a fucking headturner, no matter where you go. He's salary is around 550 euros/month so he can afford to take proper care of it.

As for a beginner, I don't really recommend an older car. Especially a GTI. But if you are a petrolhead, an Mk2 Golf can be a nice purchase.

Confirming Mk.2 Golf for fun times.
For your 1st car tho, maybe not the best choice.

you fucking pussy hahah

>tfw still haven't got the MK2 from my uncle
Offered to take it, but says it may cost "too much to be worth of saving". Yeah probably I could drop 500 eur on another random Golf, but this one has been in my family for the last decade.
He used to mention about selling it for scrap or papers, but nothing such recently.

Watch out for rust, apparently they were built out of horrible soviet steel from east germany.

I'd think really hard about it
My father had a similar golf 2, 1.6 JXD, red 5 door for 14 years, we went everywhere with it, and it never left us on the road.
In the end father sold it for scrap (junkyard)
I am still sad about it, so if there is a way save it
My first car is a 1992 Škoda Favorit, 80.000 original KMs, never been in an accident, rust free. It was just 2 days away from the scrapyard, but i bought it for 150eur
Best decision i made, after more than a year of owning it i couldn't be happier, it never let me down.
Pic related, identical
BTW you are from Romania? Slovenia here.

>get a piece of shit to learn on
Like a MKI or MKII Golf you mean?

>It was just 2 days away from the scrapyard, but i bought it for 150eur
There's a local scrapyard that I go to.

He often buys cars for scrap, but usually takes an extra week or two before filling papers.

It means I can get cars for as little as €40.

Yeah I'm from Romania, and pic related is the actual Golf I'm talking about (picture taked in March this year).

I've mentioned the story of the Golf a few times before, it's been my father's before it was my uncle's and that's one of the reasons I want it. According to him, the car caught fire because of the electrical part, but I'm not aware of any other damaged. My uncle vagualy mentioned a carburator change.

1.6 Petrol engine, strong metal on it (considerably stronger than any car we had so far), had even central locking back when we first got it.

My Grandfather had a Series 3 Jaguar XJ6 that he scrapped just before I got my license.

I think he got £30 for it from the scrappers.
He just didn't want to "deal" with it anymore.

I tried to persuade him so I could have it instead, but by that point he totally despised it.

It was specialist maintained since new and ran and drove perfectly.

The only problem? A rusty cross member.

My point is I've regretted it ever since. Don't let it happen to you.

I pass by to see if the Golf is around every now and then and been told by family that it may not go anywhere any time soon, but I guess I have to be cautious about it.

Another similar story is my aunt's Kadett. She never changed oil, spark plugs or anything besides maybe antifreeze. Car got kinda rusted and every winter she'd just take out the battery and leave it in grandpa's garage until it was warm again to drive it. She scrapped it this year, took the poor car on wheels to it's death and got a laughable 75eur for the whole thing. Damn shame.

>dfw not the only relative poorfag eastern euro on this rwandan tomos apn4 fetish forum
bosnia here, it's pretty much mad max over here and i'm limited to 500e tops shitboxes plus registration but i'm not complaining, you civilized western euros and murricans don't know what a car is until you dorifto a golf 2 that's gunning for 300000km and has survived five owners, two wars and the average bosnian subhuman driver

40e is nothing DESU
I'd be jelly but since my next car will be american (50's or 60's) idc
We have a good amount of US land yachts here in SLO
Mk2 are getting really really expensive here in my country, so like i said if there is a way fix it and keep it. I'm sure it will serve you just fine.

How are the prices on American cars?
I've been waiting one since forever.

I just might take a trip to Slovenia and drive one back. I've previously been looking at doing it in Hungary.

pretty much anything exotic or outside the norm is expensive as fuck

im in illinois

slovenski Veeky Forums meet WHEN?

im up for it but im still in the market for a new car after the last one ended its run and went kill

That 600€ barnfind rusted Supra on avto.net is calling your name.

was already checking it out
I would in an instant, even have the experience and equipment but college wont leave me enough time

Wait you seem not like literally every other slovenian car guy into stanced fwd audis and VWs.

Where are you from more specifically?

Kranj
but I am into VWs, dream car is a corrado, just not stanced ones
you

Man corrados are sick no judgment here, I just have a problem with people I know buying new 40k€ mk7.5 GTIs and ruining them with 20 inch wheels and shitty suspension... and new cars in general... classic Veeky Forumstist anyway.

As much as I like living in this comfy godforsaken land
the car choices really are a killer

always wanted an mk2

couldnt find a good one after looking for a long time so i just got a bmw 2002 instead. this was back in 2005 when both were still cheap.

chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/d/vw-volkswagen-corrado-gand/6289372875.html

a bit out of range man

>I have an mk5 jetta and realllllly want an mk2 for a project.

How about you get a Mk2 DD and a Mk2 for a project?

Are you implying everyone is gonna wreck their first car? People wreck cars they don't care about.

Didn't see the "you", I'm from Škofljica (or near it atleast).

And I totally agree with the car choices being slim. I know it's a meme but I'm legit drooling over some of the 86s on mobile.de.
So I just got the closest thing to that for 1500€, gave her some love and now it's almost ready for reggo.

>multiple z31s on mobile.de I'd buy in a hearbeat
>to import it and pay the taxes I'd h
fucking granite blocks to the parlament god damn it

>to import it I'd have to pay twice the price
that one ran away from me jesus

avto.net/Ads/details.asp?id=12271754
This thing is like the perfect GT

and yes i know it's a 32

Im not paying 15k for a car right now, especially as a student it doesnt seem like the right choice

Oh I'm well aware, let me dream...
I'm off to bed, see you again sometime I guess, cool Veeky Forums guy from Kranj, saviour of the slovene car scene

I'm not after Mustangs or Camaros.
Just some big and living roomy American iron thats 30 years or older.

>For my first car, I want to buy a vehicle that was notorious for crippling its driver in front end collisions. I may not be a good driver yet but I want to satisfy my euro tuner fantasy just because.

same shit applies
they're rare so expensive, if you can even get one thats for sale

get a Uno Turbo

slovenci, dođite na /brg/ na 8ch, pokušavamo da napravimo nešto

You're mistaking them for the golf 3. Golf 2s were in production for only 1 year after the fall of the wall. I got a '85 golf 2 in the garage that has less rust than a '96 golf 3 that's my secondary. The golf 3 was always parked in a garage until I got it 6 years ago, the golf 2 was parked outside back when it was dd'ed till '02 or something.

yeah remember how everybody that lived in the 90's lost their legs? oh no you can't because you're 12.
