/egg/ - Engineering Games General - Formerly /svgg/

Ruskie Scrapheap Challenge Edition
Previous jej: The thread is dedicated to all games about building machines and systems out of blocks, in space or otherwise. Also, all these games are ded. Only ded games may join, otherwise they must have their own thread.
Whether or not a game belongs in /egg/ is a case by case matter, however games that would belong in /svgg/, space voxel games general, are automatically considered /egg/

WebM for physicians:

Some tips for you crossout fags.

Dont use your scrap making those scrap loot crates. They suck dick and exist just to waste peoples scrap who have a gambling problem.

If you need gold, take a look at the market and see what the most expensive blue tier part is, and then try to make that and sell it. Easy money. If you go full jew you can buy parts cheap and resell for higher prices later.

Oh, also it costs 500 gold to start a faction/guild/clan in Crossout. Somebody who isnt an idiot needs to save up 500 gold jew coins and make "/egg/men" or "/egg/" or something.

Nice, the second post's details indicate that they've at least got some grasp of the issues related to exploiting an arbitrary number of CPUs: interactions between things, conflict resolution, and so forth.

However, last I ran it 0.15 still ran at like 130% utilization of a dual-core chip. So either I'm render-bound, or the frame computation stuff as they've implemented it doesn't scale even to two cores.

Space Engineers is a shit game and there's a reason no one responds to your posting of Space Engineer screencaps

Playing through spacechem and this is the first time I'm starting to feel legitimately stuck. If I want to do this with 2 reactors only my guess is that I must completely ignore the recylcer to allow one of my reactors to actually output into the other.

This is my idea for setup but I don't know how I'll be able to make a single reactor turn oxygen molecules into yttrium while still dropping spare hydrogen without building up too many oxygen atoms.

Am I headed in the right direction or am I completely off?

is marek there? he's like some kind of carthatically tragic character they put on

Space Engineers is a shit game and we love it. There's a reason he posts Space Engineers screencaps

as you said:
> interactions between things, conflict resolution
they don't use it for all things, I doubt it could be possible to do so with some parts of the game (someone in last ded wrote about belts in that respect).
is your dual-core a true 2 cores or intel hyperthreaded?
if the latter, they max out both cores, just intel jews you (intel's own words: it boosts power by 15-30%)

>I don't know how I'll be able to make a single reactor turn oxygen molecules into yttrium
Why're you making it needlessly complicated for yourself?
Five O make one Zr.
All hydrogen is pumped into second reactor, which makes a 50/50 blend of Y and Nb

Oh damn I was way off, that's genius thanks.

>Oh damn I was way off
Don't sweat it.
When I read the 'do it with 2 reactors only' and saw the first screenshot, I figured Krypton should be fed into the first reactor for it to make any of the fusion products.
The first reactor would then have to output both hydrogen and krypton into the second reactor, which would somehow have to make sense of said input.
...and that's without trying to figure out what to do with the oxygen.

Seeing your suggested reactor setup made things a lot simpler.

I eat large amounts of random packaged foods in single sittings every now and then, and I'm still alive.

soO We need 500 funbucks to make WARBROS#1 clan in crosseyed gaijin crossout

Don't think you can pool funbucks with other players either, so we need either insane grinding efforts or a rich user

Personally I dont want to spend money on an (((early access))) (((F2P))) game, and the funbucks package I can comfortably afford is 350 and it's probably better spend on common parts for my car

Why is anyone playing anything made by Gaijin. A history of making half-baked f2p games, introducing features that blatantly make the people who put down loads of cash op, very very slowly releasing updates, which usually include changes against community wishes- just look at War Thunder for an example- and then abandoning the "game" after milking it for cash and purposely killing their playerbase

Im going to play tonight and Ill make us the 500 golden kike coins to make a clan.

This is Crunk by the way.

Or if one of you wants to go ahead and do it, feel free. If nobodys done it by time Im off work and playing Ill take care of it tonight.

You dont have to buy gold with $$$. Just craft a few blue tier parts and sell them on the market for gold.

>changes against community wishes
means they actually know how to design a game instead of pandering to entitled gamers who don't know what they want

>t.ivan

Autism of Chode
Complexity of Factorio
Vehicle building of FtD
But the blocks can be made smaller for very fine tuning (each "block" is actually 27 smaller blocks)

I might be onto something here

Because this time it's vaguely /egg/ related, like robocucks lite

What's autistic about Chode? Don't you dare insult best game

It's good kind of autism though.
I'd throw my 15 funbucks I managed to scramble together your way if it meant bringing Crossbros a little closer to happening.

Actually you can pool funbucks through the market. Just put sum copper/scrap/whatever up for sale with set price. There is 10% commission though.

What is a good layout for nuclear reactors in factorio? Google image search is suprisingly unhelpful

...

try to make your layout fairly dense, reactors get a neighbor bonus while a reactor that's directly adjacent to it is running
the heat generated falls off in the heat pipes and needs to be above about 500 degrees celcius to be able to make steam, so try to center your heat exchangers around the reactors
after that the steam can just be pumped to a turbine any old way

most of the bigger designs i've seen are 4-9 reactors in a block, with heat exchangers running out four directions from the center, mine is currently a spaghetti mess though I need to rebuild it

so what faction is /egg/ in crossout

I'm gonna side with Nomads for them sweet machineguns and autocannons.
Although I'm not entirely sold on their aesthetics.

I have medieval engineers. But it's literally not a game.

Never fucking Forgetti what Gajew did to Star Conflict. When that fucker came out it was fun as hell. I picked up the Destroyer and was rekin shitters left and right. Stopped playing due to RL issues and come back a few years later.

>absolutely ded

I am still mad.

>crossout

>Never fucking Forgetti what Gajew did to Star Conflict
Gayjew is by far one of the shittiest and scummiest game devs and I am honestly surprised people haven't formed a literal boycott against them. They keep making the same game with a new skin, do the exact same thing to it as they did to the past five, and then move on. Dumbshits never catch on. In a month or two when you're all complaining about Crossout being unbalanced and a grindfest I'm going to just laugh

What is the major hurdle for creating eggy games in terms of making them?

I would assume programming and actual effort put into optimization of good code while remaking or outright discarding non-functional code but maybe I'm wrong and we just don't have the technology to make the ultimate engineering game on current hardware

I don't know whether it would be better or worse to have my suspicions confirmed that we are just too niche an audience for anyone competent to get funding and make a fleshed out well-made game

direction

But is the game running slow? If it can do everything it needs to do with 1.3 cores, that's all it will use.

And as says, if they're virtual cores (hyperthreading), you won't get much more than 30% utilisation on the second core.

If it's 2 full cores and the game is running slow, it may be render bound (particularly if you're zoomed out, as that increases GPU load without much effect on CPU load), or it may be due to sections which aren't multi-threaded.

They're just simulations with a game of some kind on top. Design and implement an efficient simulation, slap a game and sandbox mode of some kind on top, /egg/s a-frying.

Probably algorithms, data structures and not using shitty frameworks. In terms of graphics you don't need much for an engineering game. Also having to mostly roll your own engine, pre made engines are way too limited for that.

A game by gaijin.

It could probably be a fuckawesome game that lets you ride eternal, shiny and chrome.
But it will turn into reckless faggotry, and a youtube PR desaster.

Gaijin are the only company on this world who would fuck up selling the cure to AIDS in Africa.

> What is the major hurdle for creating eggy games in terms of making them?
Making them fun. Making them appeal to a large enough user base to be profitable.

The main technical issue is that you're limited in your ability to tailor the data to the engine's capabilities, because the data is created (or at least heavily modified) by the user.

So I'm playing Crossout right now, is there no one else playing? Is PvP just not working? When do you start getting matched with actual human enemy players?

i've been matched with tons of players through the regular modes

Have you never played a tutorial?

>tired of current sprawling train based layout

life is suffering. i'm half tempted to just throw up a bunch of defenses, order everything across the map disassembled except power related stuff, roboports, and storage chests and then go to bed

dude just like nuke yourself out a nice cosy continent, then start anew

I should add I've already done several matches, I didn't just que the first one and start complaining like some people do.

there's no fast enough way to disassemble everything?

i guess this is an option, i'd just gather up the resource intensive stuff i've invested in like t3 modules and whatnot. might be cathartic now that i think about it.

My internet has perfectly fine download speed and ping, but whenever I try to play online vidya it's laggy as all hell. Can't play Crossout because of it.

Also you can just offsource some elements of your production, like smelters or chips

>arbitrary 2/10 damage bars
Is a number too much to ask for?

>net neutrality is bad
this is what you asked for
time to pay for the gamer™ package™

most ISPs detect you speedtesting and fake the results because fuck you

Well, this is what my map looks like (minus distant ore mines). It was my real first attempt at going "big". I want to tear everything down and go to 4 rail systems and do some other things like locally producing green chips instead of trying to train them everywhere. I'm getting around 4 science/sec, but don't have much room for growth due to rail network throughput and the fact that my smelter array isn't big enough. Need to at least quadruple it, and possibly make it bot based.

I could locally disassemble everything, but I don't want to haul all the materials around. I'm probably just going to nuke it. If I keep my rocket/science facility, I have enough shit buffered to start anew.

>>net neutrality is bad
>imblyin there wouldn't be like thousands of hamnets in like week after net gets pricey.
>imblyin (((they))) would be this stupid

I like your layout and that rail porn is sexy.

Makes me think though, Underground rails/Overpass rail WHEN??

>has literally one line connecting everything
>complains about throughput

when I was building my first base I had like three lines connected to base from the getgo

and I also used 2 rails

now I use four.
With special experimental setup which may help alleviate throughput problems

Just played my first PvP match
This actually feels like a much tighter early roboshit
I think /rcg/ can truly ride again with this

Well, I know my rail network is shit. That's why I want to tear it out along with everything attached to it. I had never gotten this far before. Everything seems spaced enough that I could possibly retrofit, but that's just boring.

>broadside shit
Man you're gonna have a fun time in 4000+ ps
