It's based on DaS3.
You spend 5 dice as stamina each turn which can be used for actions like using items, skills or attacking, and reactions like rolling or blocking. Stamina management is important.
Unlike the game, skills are separate from weapon arts. Example: you need to learn perseverance (which can be used with all hammer/great hammer weapons) separately from buying a hammer. Skills use FP and can be upgraded (usually resulting in less FP consumption). Spells are basically skills as well. Backstab and parrying are skills you need to learn.
There's a malice mechanic where the GM can add complications to make the game harder (enemies have more HP, higher initiative, hit harder etc.) or invade but has limitations to prevent abuse.
If there's multiple players one player is the host while others are phantoms. If the host dies everyone dies.
There's a gesture chart so you can do fun stuff like force players to only use gestures to communicate.

If there's one thing the DLC got right, it's making sharp and heavy infusion gem farming much less painful.

and the others are there for very specific cases, at least that's what it looks like to me. with the way the game works right now you'll never be able to take 90% reduced damage.
