My manual has 5 gears, for the highway I wish it had 6 though. Lexus has a car with 10 gears. but why stop there?

Why don't they make either pleb cars or expensive cars with 20, 50, 100 gears?

just get a cvt then faggot

Diminishing returns is a real thing. Plus the size of a 10 speed auto is pretty long.

Honestly it's all a meme. You don't need that many gears, you just have a transmission that is always hunting a gear

Where the fuck are you gonna put 100 gears?

in a tube along the car

>tiny 0.5 litre engine at very front of car
>100 gear transmission in long tube from front to rear axle of car
>the 100 gears multiples the torque
>extreme fuel efficiency and extreme torques

mark my works Veeky Forums 100 gear transmission is the future, not electric vehicles

every gear you add is friction thats why you dont have semi 12 speeds on mopeds

This, I honestly hate my six speed auto. It shifts every 500 RPM unless I floor it and even then it shifts at 3k regardless. It's never in the powerband and the "sport" mode is a joke. It just holds off the shift for another 2-300 RPM. If I want to actually get some speed I have to use the manumatic thing. Then at least it'll hit the redline.

Add some overdrive units. Bam now you got 10 speeds.

better question, why is that laferarri puke green

10 gears is already a bit too much desu.
Either use a CVT or Koenigsegg© Direct Drive™ instead.

Akshually, before they limited the amount of gears, 50cc moped racing involved up to 14 gears. Google the Suzuki RK67.
>50cc
>17000RPM
>14 gears
>17.5hp(350hp/L)
>58kg kerb weight
>Powerband the size of a Honda's torque curve

Oh wow even got the copyright and trademark characters in there. Are you an altcode wizard?

>not having -1/12 gears

It's like you want to be slow

>not having a 20 speed manual

because you spend more time shifting than anything else
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epicyclic_gearing#Compound_planetary_gears

>be driving your 100-speed lexus
>shift to 3rd and hear a clunking noise
>suddenly you're sent 30ft into the air
>gears everywhere
>transmission rebuild costs the same as a house

Yeah some automatics do shifting well and others require user-intervention to actually do anything. Usually cars that dont do auto/manual override too well are newer

at least your car has gears

I have 5 gears and I think thats enough (really long gears).

>Why don't they make either pleb cars or expensive cars with 20, 50, 100 gears?
this is basically how trucks work. also bicycles. they use ranges instead of just literally hundreds of gears but still, 6-10 gears + high/med/low range works out to a lot of effective gearing setups

That's hardcore lol what is a tractor?

>be me
>100 gear car
>gear shift wraps around whole interior of car
>have to have 4 people in car to shift all the way around
>"SHIFT SHIFT SHIFT! ROTATE! DOWNSHIFT! SHIFT!"

What is the point of these things besides being a decoration for some oil sheik's garage?

i lold

Is this what they use in Fast and Furious
