Was dominant in Group A aswell untill the R32 GT-R came along.

...

>only won because of superior AWD traction when opponents were RWD
>described as "borderline undriveable"
>got utterly BTFO once competitors developed their own AWD cars

it was okay

>However, at the time, there was
economic and political unrest in Spain which gave SEAT very little budget to develop a top class rally car.
Four wheel drive transmissions, which had become the norm in top rallying, were relatively new and
expensive technologies to develop. Hence, two Spanish brothers privately came up with a
cheaper solution to giving a rally car four wheel drive: use two engines!

Overshadowed by the Group B AWD monsters but, in my opinion, one of the best looking rally cars ever built.

my favorite in DIRT Rally
easiest to drive from the group b

This is the only music that plays in my head now every time I see a rally car thread on Veeky Forums and I don't think it will ever change

Car on the right won every race it took part in, car on the left nearly beat 911's with twice the engine size.

That is actually kinda nice synthwave.

ITT: Group B autofags

It just happened to be the fastest car by a large margin and held a stage record for 20 years until it was eventually beaten by a Group B Quattro, that's probably why

isnt that one of those pointless records like the 70s lemans car that had the record because the 80s ones had chicanes

>also couldn't beat a rwd rocket

>same looking FWD shitboxes
>same faggot winning everything

Who even cared about WRC after Mitsubishi and Subaru left?

>It just happened to be the fastest car by a large margin
in its class*
And even then it was embarrassed by the Minis. Only reason it held its "stage record" for so long, is because again it was an over 3L stage record, which was never challenged until various Group B entrants started utilising large capacities. The reality is the Escorts that followed in later years were faster anyway.

You're talking about the Audis. Literally the only year they took championship was when they were the pioneering AWD. The following year they were beaten by a fucking RWD Opel. The Peugeot was actually a very competitive vehicle.

of fucking course he was talking about the audi, thats why he replied to the OP,man

>FWD

>in its class*
bzzt, wrong, it was the fastest car overall by a large margin. The Mini was the fastest in class, which was handicapped to win the race despite being much slower.

> Only reason it held its "stage record" for so long, is because again it was an over 3L stage record
Which sub 3l car ran faster before the Audi?

Show me a production AWD French rally car.
Loeb single handedly killed WRC.

A driver in a FWD car single handedly killed WRC?

Care to explain? cause this sounds interesting.

How did I imply that the WRC car was FWD? It was based off of a boring FWD shitbox, as were all french shitboxes after the Renault 5.
Also loeb had the most boring personality ever. I really disliked the guy and so did most of the people watching WRC. He was a god damned master behind the wheel. But he was too good and too dull to be interesting to watch him win.

>How did I imply that the WRC car was FWD? It was based off of a boring FWD shitbox
Oh, i misunderstood.

[citation needed]

Reminder that a Citroen Xsara BTFO ALL the 4WD competition twice in 1999 (although they were all tarmac rallies).

It wasn't even Loeb driving it. It was Philippe Bugalski.

muh dick. why are rally cars so aesthetic.

youtube.com/watch?v=tF6IRagBeXA

>It was based off of a boring FWD shitbox
base, non-Evo Lancers were FWD (some AWD)
base 206's were FWD
base Corollas were FWD
base Escorts were FWD
base Focuses were FWD

I think he's talking about french car manufacturers not making 4wd specials of their regular cars. But that only happened because of group A homologation requirements, and the french had already won group B and didn't bother with group A.

The 4wd cars they did make (BX, 405 and 21 4x4) ended up not being profitable enough, nor particularly faster than their fwd cars.

Kit Car class, with fwd 300whp BTFO'ing the major class in tarmac like no tomorrow.

Got axed the following years because of WRC crying over them.

PS: Also the reason why today we have shitboxes as WRC is that companies cried to FIA to soften the homologation rules because no company nowadays is able hold a production of an awd rally dedicated car. So get over it.

I love FWD and this gives me a boner. i wish we could've seen some rally-spec dodge neons or saturn S series. if only Rally was a bigger thing in America.

Exactly. MB actually ran a factory effort to rally the C107 and was surprisingly successful with it, despite the pigfat dimensions and the 3-speed autotragic transmission.

>300 hp @ 11,000 RPM

Audi more like shit

Cool, I didn't expect to find the Ibiza Bimotor here!

There were also some FWD Group B Ibizas made for the Ibiza Rally Cup, with the 1.5 System Porsche engine, Weber carbs and Seat Sport gearbox.

There are only a couple of them left because they were overcome by the Renault 5 GT Turbo and VW Golf, therefore the teams lost interest and sold the cars for autocross or directly scrapped them.

Pic related is objectively the best rally car ever made.
Five manufacturer world championships.

My nigga. 205 was the coolest thing on earth. Still is.

Fuck Audi. It's a meme car.

the audi sounds like a million wasps forming a tornado

i5 is always gonna sound nice but the 205 sounds like it will murder you.

youtube.com/watch?v=wmzsO20yUk8

Objectively the best rally car. So good they literally had to ban it.

is he okay?

That driver was lucky SOB, but his co-driver, not so much.

i wish "peasantry" were a crime

I don't understand your post.

>FERD

JUST A FLESH WOUND!

This is the shit I'm always scared of when playing Dirt. Those high speed 6's are the worst.

But it only got banned because they were bypassing the turbo restrictors

They were using a wonderful piece of engineering to make the engine breathe better while keeping the restrictors :^)

How the fuck is this worse than Audi fags using AWD when everyone was still using RWD?

rip Henri & Sergio

Lovely sound.

It won a lot of races in Australia, idk about the rest of the world.
