Seems like the Lexus LS430 is a good pickup. Im considering it for my next car. But what are some other cars to consider or that are comparable? Also does anyone have any experience with this car? Either driven it or owned one? It looks like they go for around 5-8k for the 2002-2004 models. But ive also heard they are really solid plus lexus isnt that expensive to own, despite it being a lux brand

any lexus sedan honestly

Thats how it looks so far, but do the GS and IS have cooled leather seats? I dont want to sweat my dick off in the summer

mid cost to own would be:
BMW 5 series E60/E61
BMW 7 series E65
both are good cars and the E65 interior is a generation ahead of the LS430 you posted and on top of that the bmw is way more fun to drive and has better handling.

this is why i hate leather. black leather may as well be a frying pan for my balls.

worst feature of a car ever is leather or vinyl seats. you can pretend cooled seats are acceptable but the first moments before they kick in are torture

what are some ways to cut down on the cost, or is DIY the only real way?
thats what i realized about leather seats. I have leather on my current car and its fucking annoying during the summer. even with the ac blasting i get hot within seconds. hence why i want air conditioned seats from now on

there is no benefit to leather at all though.
slippery, hard as a rock in winter, too hot in summer, its slippery, tends to crack, and isnt as comfy as a nice cloth.
pic related, a comfy cloth

DIY is nothing hard on those cars, there is an online tutorial for literally everything.
Or independant bmw specialists if you're lazy
One more tip is: don't buy a neglected car
I own a E60 and my dad used to own a E65, both had pretty high mileage (my e60 had 380k miles) but they were decently reliable for a broke college student like myself

that interior is so neglected though... here, a better kept example of the same interior

Well I smoke a lot of cigs so its a big factor for me. With leather the smell is more manageable, especially if i air it out overnight. With cloth not so much. Plus i just find leather more comfy, just not in hot weather
Which models would you recommend? Im looking up the 5 and 7 series now. Which are the most reliable?

>which models
So far I understand you're in the U.S?
E60 523i, 525i, 528i or 530i would be the most reliable and cheapest to upkeep.
For the 7 series try to find a 730i or 730d

Drove a 2006 LS430 for about 2 years.

Things I like:
Extremely comfy
Extremely quiet
Most reliable Lexus ever built
Heated/Cooled Seats
Rear camera
Soft ride but yet very stable on high speeds
Spacious
Smooth 6 speed auto

Things I dislike:
Parking can sometimes be bad in tight spots
Mark Levinson audio system is shit

There isn't much to dislike about this, it's not the most exciting thing on the road but damn is it comfortable.
You don't think of the outside world when you're driving it.
Don't need to worry about the traffic or how long it takes to get to your destination.
Not once did the car have a CEL or left me stranded.
It's a fucking tank.

Are there anymore suggestions?
What tires were you driving on? Road quietness is actually a huge factor for me, especially on the highway. I hate how much wind noise gets through the cabin in my current car
Is there a huge gap for reliability between those and the higher trims?

i posted the naturally aspirated inline 6 petrol models, they are really reliable.
the 535i also has the great tuner engine - N54/N55 but it may need servicing for the turbos and stuff.
The higher trim 7 series come with V8's. They are decently reliable but they can get expensive if anything goes wrong.
There is next to no road or engine noise on the E60 or E65 btw, they have excellent sound insulation

Don't know the exact model but they were Bridgestone Potenzas.
There is a lot of sound dampening throughout the car that once I got in and saw a check engine light, was worried how it happened only to realize that.. the car wasn't even running.. it's THAT quiet since running or off it sounds the same. Only time you will hear the engine is when you pop the hood or go above 4krpm.

I have one An 04 OP. I paid $16k last year but it was a one owner car with 50k miles on it in pretty much 9.5/10 condition. I needed a larger car for my growing family (1 child seat and 1 infant seat ) than my 08 TSX could comfortably handle.

Let’s put it this way....you cannot go back to lesser cars after an LS. They are literally the best screwed together Cars Japan has ever made. Ask any mechanic who works on them and other cars.

Just make sure the car didn’t have ghetto rat owners and you’ll be fine. The motors run for a billion miles but you absolutely have to change the timing belt at 100k intervals. Make sure this has been done. It’s an interference engine that will smash the valves all to hell if the timing belt lets go. Parts are expensive but not merc does expensive, and can be cross checked with other Toyota products. Very comfy and reliable. I can get about 26 mpg highway only, but it’s about 20-21 mpg mixed with a heavy foot.
What else do you want to know?

>good ls430 that will be pleasant to own
>under 8k
pick one.

>paid 16k for a 15 year old Toyota
hahahahaha

>smoking
kys. oh wait, you're trying.

almost zero e60s have cooled seats.

it's better than your car.

A high mileage V6 G8. Interiour is great so long as you don't buy from a fat previous owner.

so basically the lowest trims have the highest reliability? wouldnt it be better to get the ls in that case? seems like id be giving up a lot of HP and torque
then it wouldnt really matter what tires i put on it? i didnt really think about it but yeah, the less noise the better.
any major issues with the car? is the sound system as bad as the other user says? how is it in snow and do you run winters or all seasons on your car?
then how much should i expect to spend?
its a shitty habit but for now its not a good time to try to quit. but hey at least i finally gave up drinking

Tires will affect the sound levels just like on any other vehicle but depending on how much quietness you want too, since the LS is so quiet you may not even need low noise tires. What other vehicles have you drove/owned?

10-12k from a private seller. post your local craigslist.

Seems like Y34s fit the criteria

Truthfully Ive only owned absolute shitboxes. Civic, mustang,626, now a 4runner. Hence why im considering the LS Im sick of driving cars i hate and dissatisfy me. I want a car I actually enjoy and look forward to driving.
Damn really? I dont want to spend more than 8k as i dont want a car thats TOO expensive. I tend to drive pretty aggressively and i dont want to be one of those people that drive slow as fuck because hur i spend x amount on my car.
Is that your car?

Going from that to a LS.. wow that's quite a jump. You will not be bothered by tire quality noise then, I assure you. As other user said, post your local craigslist. You may be able to find good deals for around $8-9k but it may take sometime.
If you want to go a little cheaper get a late model LS400 98-00, those are on par with the LS430 and just as reliable. You can find them between 5-6k and are a bit faster.

>17 - 4 = 15
>peasant fucking up an upper class smugmeme

What is this? a leased base Audi A4 owner?

Those are cool as fuck. Pretty much a JDM car. Not designed for world market at all.

I use Michelin primacy. Quiet but don’t let the car wallow like a burger car.

Yeah a good 400 will be cheaper. If the car is maintained and kept out of degrading road conditions like salt. It’s going to run pretty much forever. It’s very common to see 400’s around with 300k miles on them, with owners that just won’t give them up because you couldn’t match the quality to the price level with anything else.

NISSAN PRESIDENT

japaneseclassics.com/vehicle/1991-nissan-president-hg50/

OP dont buy from midway autohaus!

i get where you are coming from as an insult but if anyone actually buys an audi instead of leasing it they are literally retarded.

t. previous audi owner

Stay away from the ultra lux models. They had air ride suspension. Air shocks die. It doesn’t matter who makes them. Even for a Lexus. So when these go out, you’ll have to replace each expensive shock individually. Or convert all four corners to standard shocks. You can easily tell which cars have the ultra lux package by the following features:

Rear climate controls
Ride height button near the traction button
Retractable sun shades in the rear passenger doors (rear power window sunshade is standard on all trim levels though so don’t confuse the rear with the rear side windows )

That deep pile carpeting

This, I drive an LS400 with over 320k miles on the clock. It runs like a top and is very comfortable. If you get the later models with VVTi they're pretty quick too. And I think they're much better looking than the 430 as well.

430 here

I don’t disagree with you at all on looks. The lateest version of the 400 (98-01 iirc) was the best looking LS until the 2017 came out this year. Which truthfully is an entirely different Lexus concept than what I’ve known them for.

430 here

I do think that I’ll upgrade to a 2012 - 2013 when they reach the $20k -$22k point with less than 75k miles on them. They do look super comfy, and the extra 90+ hp sure wouldn’t hurt.

Yeah, the new LS is a bit weird with the more showy looks and the V6 engine, no V8 feels like the end of an era.

I’m betting that the 5 liter V8 returns as an option after a year or so.

But look at bmw and mb. Fucking turbo six cyl where eight used to be. And eight where 12 used to be (despite 12 being some pointless option at this point)
