If you take Swahililand, you essentially cap off any other power entering East Africa. Combine this with an early game invasion of Ethiopia and Egyptian Nubia (which you can easily pick up in a war for the Suez> and you have your startpoints. You can then draw a line around the great lakes region to Zambia, going through Far Kongo and ending in Zambia. Portugal rarely has the industry available to build the naval bases it requires to colonize, which means you can use them and Oman to seal off the non Somaliland parts of the eastern seaboard. From there it just requires six years of colonization to draw your line down through Far Kongo/Zambia which will usually be uninterrupted because the major powers are fighting over East Africa/have to go through the whole kongo to interrupt your line.

Once the line is drawn nobody can colonize past it and you've essentially locked that region down for yourself.
