Legal quirks and trivia of automobiles in your region

What is some trivia about car legality and rules in your region?

Here in Spain
>we used to have license plates where the first 1-2 letters of the license plate (matrícula) represented the province where the car was licensed
So for example a car from madrid would be M, a car from Palencia would be P, a car from pontevedra would be PO

The problem with this system is that in football matches, vandalism would occur in the parking lot and people could easily identify people from specific regions that probably came to root for their team.
Also people used to avoid cars from coast regions in case they had rust.

In Portugal military vehicles have plates staring with MX.
All plates after 98 have the month year the vehicle was first sold in the yellow bit.
That was because when you imported cars they got new plates and people try to sell them as new.

If your car is [color of the wrong team] it will get vandalized.

here government vehicles have special plates like that too
>CNP: National Police Corps
>PCG: Civil Guard (Police)
>EA: Ejercity del Aire (Airforce)
>ET: Ejercity de Tierra (Army)
>FN: Fuerzas Navales (Navy)
you used to be able to tell the age of a vehicle by the 4 numbers in the license plate, but now i think they are just randomized or something.

Pre-EU plates looked so much better for literally every EU country.

The blue stripe and new fonts fag shit up majorly and especially clash on cars older than 20 years

My 89 escort still has a MA____AU plate

You used to be able to get a Dr Pepper plate in Texas

Also there's a multi-mile long arrow-straight road that's in state and not local jurisdiction near me that because local cops can't patrol on it people drag race on every weekend. Only staties can pull you over on it, and because half the racers are cops they don't even show up.

What the fuck is with euros and your soccer retardation?
Say what you will about American sports, but at least if the Jets lose a game everybody doesn't gangbeat the rival team's fans and burn cars all night

agreed my country's old plates look so comfy

In hueland(Brazil) we had traffic code back in 1998, as a way to overhaul all outdated trafic laws and "try" to reduce the numbers of accidents with fatal victims.

This new code was written by a bunch of morons who though the following laws would be any help:

-Obligation to carry a first aid kit inside our cars and expect us to give first aid help to victims, even though we only had a basic, one week course on first aid help, that shared time with the rest of the driver's course;

-Obligation to carry a fire extinguisher, and expect us to know how to use it;

-Prohibit any performance tune up that would increase the original engine's horsepower by more than 5%(Includes engine swapping);

-Prohibit any tune up or update on the car's brakes(and back in '98, there was too many VW Beetles with drum brakes on the streets);

-Prohibit any change on the vehicle's headlights, even on old vehicles like a VW Beetle that don't properly illuminate the road at night;

And there were many other flaws, some of these laws aren't mandatory anymore(like the first aid kit and fire extinguisher) but there some left that are still stupid.

Almost 20 years later, our traffic still is the most deadly in all of Americas.

It's laughable just like our gun control.

This.
They will always remember me of ultra comfy road trips.

In california if you have an electric or CNG car you get carpool stickers that allow you to drive alone in the lane ment for cars with atleast 2 or 3 passengers

>AU-Plakette noch vorne
das waren noch Zeiten, haha. Wie die Zeit fliegt!

Join the cool club and leave the EU so you can get nice license plates again

I fucking would but as you can see from the plates I posted, this is probably the core EU country. There's no way in hell they will leave it.

But then you have to put a faggot sticker on your car if you drive to the continent

Stimmt, zeit rennt viel zu schnell.

The first two letters in our plates don't directly tell you where the car is from, because plates are assigned in batches to provinces however you can tell when the car was registered: for example two cars with BX might come from Aosta and Palermo but both were registered around 2002.

We have:
>CC: Corpo dei Carabinieri (division of the military)
>CRI: Red Cross
>EI: Esercito Italiano
>GDF: monei police
>VF: Vigili del Fuoco (firefighters but literally "fire police")
Fun fact: this initials should be unavailable for civilian use, yet a friend of mine has her car registered "CCxxxnn"

You could just use magnetized stickers and pull them off after the road trip. No biggie.

I didn't think Brexit would happen but it did!

You could just rent a car whilst on holiday to save yourself the shame

not all countries can take a hit like that to their economy because of "their feelings".
sadly.

Indiana went one further and made it so that license plate prefixes indicate city. As an example 53B means Bloomington while 60A means Spencer and it used to be that if you got behind a car with 60A plates you knew you were screwed because they didn't know where they were going and would take forever figuring it out.

That's the thing about laws. They only affect the law-abiding. For whatever reason it appears that Brazilian culture has decided that driving like an over-aggressive retard is valued and laws won't change that.

>but it did!
Well it kinda seems like it's still a long way to go. They do everything to elongate the process

The EU are trying to make it take as long as possible to make other EU members go:
"Oh leaving the EU would be so inconvenient let's not bother lolxd"

what the fuck do you expect them to do?
>oh right just get out we'll make it as easy as possible so that everyone else follows suit
can you even perspective

>brexit
>anything but great for the economy
If anything, being in the EU and wanting to leave as we are now is ruining our economy.

You goys need to get Trump to help you get a better Breitling deal. Merkel and juncker will cuck May

*brexit

Merkel's a slag she can't do shit, May said if the deal we were offered was bad then she wouldn't take it

>Breitling deal
I know, typo but lol'd

Now I kinda want one

Where i live in illinois i have to pass an emission test every 2 years. But 30 miles west, still in illinois, i'd be exempt.

I live in dupage, dekalb residents are exempt.

>campaign about how UK pays 300 million or w/e to the EU
>ignore that theres many more benefits from the trade with EU than that relatively tiny amount paid
ahh yes, catalonyan-tier cherrypicking and populism

>not mentioning that my post is entirely factual
Ok froggy

In Denmark your license plates must be attached with 2 screws each, because screws make it impossible to steal them.
We can choose between EU and proper license plates

It seems weird to think of that being a novelty in Europe, here every province has it's own plate
One of the novel things about Alberta is that they don't reuse any plate numbers - they only relatively recently added another digit to accommodate a new block, now it's 3 letters then 4 numbers when it used to be 3-3

Implying sovereignty is worth throwing away for any amount of money

They remind me of car chase scenes from 90s movies

Euro plates are so obtuse and ugly, it ruins the look of a lot of cars.

pic related is best plate

>blue plate
>ruining the style if you dont have a blue car

Every license plate begins with a letter

P - Private
R - Rental
T - Used to be Truck but now means Goods vehicle
H - Hire/Taxi/Omnibus

These are followed by maybe one extra letter and up to four numbers eg. P5555 (one of the first 9999 plates), HS5 (New plate)

G - Gubberment
CD - Diplomat
LCD - Tourism concession
F - Farming concession

These are just followed by up to 4 numbers as they haven't broke 9999 in the last 100 years

We even get the county name on ours.

Obligatory because of county name in pic

>Nürtingen
Ha
Schade das BaWü keine alten Nummernschilder für Oldtimer ausgibt

I cant do a rolling burnout in my hotted up comme whilst screaming about how I live for mainies

In Oregon legally a 30 year old classic car making 97hp is viewed the same as a 1000hp dragster (special interest vehicle).

Macht das überhaupt wer?
Glaube DIN-Kennzeichen gab es kurz mal wieder im Norden bevor irgendwelche Schwuchties wieder nen Furz quer hatten und es wieder unzulässig machten.

I long for death, here in Dominican Republic you cannot import any car older than 2007 unless you get specific paperwork saying it's 30 years of age which you'll then get taxed for yearly

This. I had a car like pic related I was planning to restore, sad the chassis was rotten beyond saving. New one is a '93, so new plates it is

tell that to the scottish

In wyoming, usa, the number before the cowboy indicates what county the vehicle is registered with.
1 is natrona , 2 is laramie ,etc.

Just 8 years ago the government pushed people into buying diesel cars since it was good for the economy and the environment.

Now they're taxing the fuck out of people because they found out diesels are in fact bad for the environment.

In Germany there's no set amount of characters on your license plate, only a certain format that gives a technical lower limit of three and an upper limit of eight. The unusual part is that unlike anywhere else that I'm aware of it's actually legal to shorten your physical plate in accordance with your license combination, in the most extreme cases to just over half the original width.

Also in Germany your car license includes tractors with a top speed of up to 40 kph (25 kph with trailers) and all self-propelled machinery with a top speed of up to 25 kph including diggers, wheel loaders, rollers, cranes, mowers, harvesters and all other sorts of stuff; and up to a top speed of 20 kph you don't even need to insure and plate vehicles, they're covered by your general liability insurance so you can just buy them and drive them around as you please (not that anyone would since it's fucking pointless, I just wanted to point it out because I learned about it recently).

that bear one is pretty cool

>california
>not yellow on black
literally end yourself

Where i live in Australia you can have your car crushed for intentionally losing traction.

how is diesel really any worse than petrol for the environment?
all the black soot in diesel smoke settles down to the ground anyway, its just carbon.

Petrol is theorised to possibly influence climate in a way that could potentially damage wildlife and human long-term prospects. Diesel is proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to harm and even kill any living creature living near areas where its smoke is produced.

then run the diesel motor off of used cooking oil.
