For me, it's the column shifter. The best way to shift an automatic transmission.

column shifters are GOAT.

why didnt they ever make manweel column shifter like a motorcyce

Op is a pretty outstanding gentleman

>tfw you get in and start the car and pull the shifter towards you and row it down to drive and hear that oh-so-delicious CHNK-CHNK-CHNK as it ratchets past reverse and neutral
>when you back up somewhere and reach forward and do the three-finger grab to slot it down to D
>all that space in the middle freed up by the lack of a gaudy, giant "totally a manual!" shifter

...

Column shifters are what separates the men from the boys

...

>reach over to turn down the radio
>all of a sudden the car comes to a stop on the highway
>mfw 52-car pileup

>another victory for WAT Racing

I wish I could convert mine honestly. I miss it about my Chevy. That distinct sound of an OBS shifter.

>slap it in D
>cruise

just like it should be, drop it in gear and forget it's even there

if I wanted a fucking floor shift I'd get in my 5-speed.

>spotty showers, drizzling
>hiding in friend's car with him chillin
>guy comes up asking for a jump
>friend gets out and grabs cables
>starts raining harder
>cables don't reach
>friend yells at me to pull car up a bit
>no idea how to work column shifter
>just yank on it hope for the best
>luck out, put it in drive
>all was well
And that's how I learned to work a column shifter.

>tfw

What did they do to that poor XJ?

It's probably an MJ. If not, it might have been a custom-order police edition, because as I'm sure you know, police-spec cars typically have empty centers to hold all their equipment.

Nigga who wants to fight a swarm of bees every time they shift?

I had a Dodge Coronet (1956) with a push button transmission. Oh what fun when you push the button and it gets stuck.

Later a Chevy Corvair (1965) with a two-speed auto that had a with a tiny dashboard mounted lever - looked like the Dark--Light temperature lever on a toaster.

It's the best way to shift a manual transmission too.
