Take one of those "defensive driving" courses user.

I'm good at parking, I rarely do dumbass shit on the street to make people mad but I can't touge like I want. I just want to carve up the mountain roads and twisties but I don't want to wreck.

New driver here
what is the best way to steer? Hand over hand or push steering?

wait nvm
I think asking a thread for bad drivers advice on driving isn't such a good idea

when i let a friend who's a karting champ and late-model semi-pro drive my car in an autocross event, and he beat my best time by 2 seconds in his first attempt. interesting thing was that he was left-foot braking, and i'm not used to that yet. it really takes a lot more practice than you would think to get the right feeling for it.

...oh wait you guys meant street driving. uhh...

some of these courses are mostly common sense, but they do offer good advice for drivers, plus in many cases your insurance will give you a discount for completing it. this, for sure.

autocross. in a controlled enviroment at lower speeds you will get much more familiar with your car and get an idea of how it behaves, plus usually everyone is friendly and willing to help you learn how to get the most out of your car.

push pull steering for sure. some driving instructors today even tell you don't do hand over hand steering.

You're already on the right track to becoming better, by not asking idiots. Good job user.

Once I realized that everyone else was also shit at it, and that it's not something you can really learn without a good teacher.

Being a new driver fucking sucks, everyone you ride with keeps telling you to do retarded shit, you have to deal with people blowing stop signs and shit like that while also paying attention to the new thing you suck at. "Driving" being getting from point A to B without violating traffic laws or dying is really easy, anything past that fucking sucks.

>be driving someone somewhere last summer
>first time driving a pickup, used to FWD shitbox
>RWD, light rear end, lmao truck steering ratio
>gravel road
>passenger leans over and turns TCS off
>fucking stop
>bruh you don't want that shit on gravel bruh it's my truck my parents bought me I know what I'm doing

I just want to cruise backroads at night alone with no one else around.

someone give me tips on driving fwd pleas, my toogay skills are a shit and there's barely anything on youtube.
when to brake, when to accelerate, and stuff like that

>I just want to cruise backroads at night alone with no one else around.
Then do so.

>rear starting to slip?
step on the gas until it doesn't anymore
>front starting to slip?
clutch in, straighten steering, pray to jesus
Alternatively, left foot brake while standing on the gas to shift more weight to the front tires without increasing the load on them due to your braking
>want to get that rear end loose?
handbrake or lift off oversteer
>i own an Audi
preemptively call a towing truck to pull you out of that ditch

Don't understeer

Around the third time I bent something after eating curb while doing mildly stupid shit.

I bought a car that can go over curbs and can't do as much stupid shit.

But user!
FWD is boring, you know? Why would you like to drive fast in them?

Push steering, that is if you wanna drive like a fucking grandma.

Never, i am a good driver because i have been doing it for years and actually took time to get good at it instead of sitting in my room watching japanese child porn like some weeb poofter faggot.

Sure you are

...

The examiner will be expecting hand over hand.

>got sideswiped by someone going 40 over the limit because I didn't shoulder check, wasn't expecting it because I was going 20 over myself
>curbed my alloys while doing handbrake turns in the snow
1 accident and 1 ticket was enough to have my insurance company throw me overboard and I went from 2k/yr to 5k/yr. Now I drive like a grandma because I'm terrified of my car's poor visibility and can't afford another insurance hike.

how do you get sideswiped when the the accident was your fault
YOURE THE SWIPER

This

I got a story

>Me and my friend take his car to drive all the way to Texas for a
MLP Convention
>We take his Toyota Avalon 2002
>Its a 12 hour Drive
>For the first 4 hours he drives while listening to the Hobbit Audiobook
>We take a little gas up and smoke break
>Its now my turn.
>Strap in
>ask my buddy if i can play some of my tunes for a while.
>he agrees.
>First Song is Gas Gas Gas
>Oh no.. i thought to myself.
>The urge of going fast was creeping in.
>I supress it.
>but it wasnt for long.
>See a big gap with no cars on the highway 45 minutes later.
>"Hey John" i ask with confidence in my voice.
>Yeah user?
>Do i scare you when i drive?
>"N-no why"
>slowly press into the gas pedal
>Speed climbs from 75 to 80 and then 100.
>"Escape from the City" is playing
>John clings on to the little rail and says
>"user SLOW DOWN HELP"
>But i didnt listen.
>Slow back down after a while
>A whole bunch of traffic and big trucks are on the road.
>He gets scared again when i follow a 18 wheeler a bit too close (though my foot was already pressing the brakes slightly)
>Get a bit antsy we're not making good time
>I decide to stay in the Passing lane
>Car rolls up on me
>Car is really close
>"So you feel like a big Hotshot do ya?" i think out loud.
>"user no." John nearly out of breath from my antics
>Speed up again and quickly swap to the right lane
>A few hoursLater i forgot to put my seatbelt on and went to do it
>THE CAR SWERVED LEFT AND RIGHT SOON AS I GRABBED THE WHEEL
>"user STOP!"
>i regain control and luckily we're still unharmed.

>On the return trip, i scared my friend so bad he drove the whole trip back.

Needless to say, it made me feel like shit. I mean i think did pretty good in my eyes (for someone who doesnt have a car/still has a learner's permit), but i think it was the recklessness of the other drivers combined with my inexperience.

All my bad driving was based on anxiety and a bit of Prozac made 99% of my bad driving habits go away. That's honestly the case with a lot of bad drivers

i know this is completly unrelated but whats that pic from? net juu no susume?

>tires lifting off the ground
FWD drifting looks pants shittingly terrifying

I haven't realized it yet.

I drive fast, but I am very defensive around other cars and always estimate accidents and keep my distance and don't have the "me first" mentality so I would never drive into a car just because I have green in an intersection.

But doing 90 in a 70 zone with no cars in front or behind where there are no side roads or walk lanes ain't something I'd consider dangerous.

i'm a great driver. but sometimes I fuck up and
>cut people off
>overtake on blind corners
>almost under steer off the road
>lockup the breaks for someone who doesn't want to indicate at a traffic circle
>tailgate slow people
>have to lockup the breaks for someone who doesn't see why they should have to turn their lights on just cause it's raining and visibility is shit
>miss indicators placed inside the headlights
>tailgate modified cars
