Your S1 mages are among the cheapest, so you should build many forts with labs and temples early for dem communions. Naga sacreds are mediocre at best, but hypmotize special attack, although one-shot, can be used for some funny anti-thug shenanigans. Nagas are amphibious and have water magic, which means that you'll have an easy time conquering UW shits with water elemental spam. E/S on your cap only dudes can be used for gifts from heaven communions. Earth buffs are always great as well. Nature will allow you to drown the battlefield in insects with creeping doom or swarm, allowing you to never trigger hp rout with your shitty baseling monkey shitflingers.
Patala's true strength comes from their summons though, and most of them require non-native paths, especially blood. Just open "summoned" tab in dom inspector and prepare to be amazed. Summonable sacreds of varying strength with both blood and pearls (that synergize with earth, astral, nature, and water buffs well), mapmove 10 teleporting siddhas (literally claim thrones in one turn from your cap), flying gorillas that autocast Darkness and can into air buffs, MOTHERFUCKING DAKINIS that will win your a motherfucking game. The problem is, they all need pretender made specifically for blood and maybe a bless to take full advantage of. So think about it while I think of pretender designs.

Something like this for a no bless build, I think. Expand with elephants (you CAN script elephants against indies, right?), build a lot of forts and labs, wait for that shit to awaken, summon your first dakini, and that should get you going. Bully everyone with your RoS-capable Bloodletting casting pretender. You can go for awake if you drop dominion and luck/magic/prod.

For a bless you can go either with blood fountain for B9, or A2N9B4 something for dakinis and golems, thought the latter will slow you down considerably. Buy bloodslaves from your friendly blood neighbors.

Ranged weapons never replace melee weapons as far as I know. Most units can still fire bows even if they lose both their arms. Probably some bullshit workaround to let things have a shield, a sword and a crossbow at the same time.

There's three things that Marveni does well: 1. Freespawn sacred boards 2. Massed Stellar Cascades/Astral Geysir/Soul Slay with 45g Stargazers, either in communion or with Light of the Northern Star 3. Gifts from Heaven communions with Druids
Scales are an obvious pick to do 2 and 3 as best as you can and like the other user said, you can get max scales with B9. However, it wouldn't be unthinkable to omit the bless in favour of an awake or take a double (I don't think that's generally speaking a good idea but it's not completely stupid and supposing you somehow know you're going to face big battlefield clear that ruins your massed mage tactics, it might be a good idea too)
