There's really not a perfect answer for that because some attacks might work on certain wake up options but not others. Hell, sometimes just lying on the ground for a moment will avoid attacks.

Seems to come down to the player and stick more than gate. I started out using square gates. Tried an octagon gate after I had difficulty getting diagonals out. It got even worse, I went back to square, and I was getting inputs out better.

I'd say Jack over Alisa, but yeah. While makes a good point, you can learn the game on Alisa and be fine. However, Jack has an incredibly simple gameplan, easy combos and sort of grows as you do? Like once you get down Jack's basics you can start learning movement options and see how those benefit his gameplan. The only downside is I can see how people could think of him as boring, and he doesn't look that cool.
