Where did all the good SUVs go?

Everything now is fuckhueg pigfat design language and super feminine looking. Unibody chassis on car suspensions, doubt they'll last 30 years and 300k miles like their predecessors.

Am I supposed to be excited about Bluetooth and backup cameras and blindspot monitors? Just give me a real fucking SUV, please, somebody.

It's because of federal emissions and safety regulations. It's not going to change. Can you retards stop making these threads?

Aren't SUVs largely exempt from the strict standards cars are subject to? As long as they're considered a "truck"?

I'm with you OP.

Ghosn is a fucking retarded spic for discontinuing the Xterra in favor of that piece of shit Pilot wannabe.

.

>soccer mom cars

Have you ever driven one? They are 1000 times more confy than a sardine can, have plenty of power, can tow and haul your friends, 4x4. Only con is handling and gas mileage but its the steer not a track. Most of you get hurt about muh mpg and filling that tank. Thats why you drive cuck mobiles.

Besides a tahoe/suburban GMC twins and a 4runner... New SUVs now are shit

I actually just got one of those. 1995 Pathfinder XE. I live in FL and it has been here its entire life. Bought it off my neighbor for 800 bucks. Super basic, power nothing, 5spd. I love it. Nice and rugged. Was looking for a comparable 4runner, but this fit the bill and I couldn't pass it up.

The only thing that really irks me is the gearing. It literally sits at about 4.5 - 5k RPM when in 5th at only 60mph, just short of redline at ~6300. It's a second/backup vehicle, I only use it for short distances around town never leaving 45mph zones, so it's not a huge deal. It just sucks gas as higher speeds. Feels like its struggling.

I drive a 4x4 tahoe z71 and its the confiest thing I've driven. 373 gearing never highway speeds at around 2k rpm. Whats your gearing ratio?

Both of the examples you posted got better in pretty much all ways

Whatever you say, normalfag.

>muh body on frame

nigga pls

Not op, but I disagree on the pathfinder, agree on the exploder. Pathfinder is now a crossover and the name is so unfitting its hilarious. Explorer of that generation are now typical trailer park driveway material and every single looks like its towing a ghost load 3 times its weight.

Only larger trucks like the f250 and 350 series or the ram 2500 and 3500. The smaller f150 trucks have more regulations.

...

You can tell who takes care of them and who doesn’t,

I make 70k a year and still keep a 2000 AWD 5.0 explorer around because it’s super capable. And I’d rather spend my money on my GTI rather than have a newer utility truck.

Mechanical AWD with an LSD on the rear is something you don’t see anymore. It’s at least as capable as a Subaru in the snow.

The thing with the rear sagging is a leaf spring issue. They were too thin in the 2 doors and I think the v6s as well.

The V6 ones really are not worth having since you’ll either have SOHC timing chain issues or a 160HP 4.0 V6 that isn’t nearly as capable as the 5.0 AWD.

>doubt they'll last 30 years and 300k miles like their predecessors
lol why would you want to keep a car that long, it will be old and gross by then! just come by your local™ Ford™ dealer™ and finance™ a new one!

Best modern SUVs:

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Porsche Macan

Volvo XC90 (or 2018 XC60)

Why do we need more choices than the Toyota 4Runner anyways?

with you all the fucking way OP,
pic related, the 90's nissan patrol.

Soccermoms ruined it.

and heres the pigfat obese luxury thing they put out today

This so much.

Pretty much every non shitbox car from earlier years is gaining value as a classic and is diy fixable but what will we have in future from present cars? Fucking nothing.

This is literally the last good SUV Nissan will ever produce, after this, it's over.

Is that a 2018 GTR?

>(((Macan)))
that's a crossover you retarded cunt.

I hate that ford got rid of the excursion.
>inb4 too big
It was perfect.

It was fun.

>2017
>using a proprietary and closed SUV(Shit unification vehicle)
>not using Partisan one
Enjoy proprietary parts fags. I got 100 year warranty on this bad boy and I can upgrade it when ever I want to.

This.

I also want GM to bring back the 2500 Suburban too, does the new Suburban even have an utilitarian non-luxury trim?

Because people want more than 260hp for $50k.

forgot pic

this is true, NZ user here, i have a 1991 nissan safari granroad, its done 400,000ks (250k miles)
thats a fuckload in NZ, all our roads are poorly maintained winding chipseal car killers, the only cars you see with more that 250 thousand ks on them are utes and 4wds

>literally a 5 year old draws a hummer: the suv

You can get the base model for $50k. Nobody's forcing you to spec it out to $90k.

Still not a 2500.

It's designed by a Russian engineer called Dr. Juri Postnikov. Its goal is to be "the best car of the world's worst roads". How can you not love this vehicle? Truly a masterpiece. Function over form. Aerodynamics are quite useless if you are planning to do a off-road vehicle.

>excited about backup cameras

Car companies shill this like: "now a standard feature on ALL our cars!!"

When in reality it's legally required for all models after 2016 iirc

Godda love murrica'

Yeah that's not a thing anymore unless you got a fleet hookup or score a used and abused one at a government auction. You can't even get them with the 6.2 which is pretty disappointing.

>inb4 too big

You could comfortably live in one without trying too hard

gmfleet.com/chevrolet/suburban-hd-heavy-duty-suv.html

>Starting at $80k

Holy Fuck

> 3,000-lb. trailering capacity

The Fuck???? That right there makes it worthless to any non government buyer.

> Standard 6.0L V8 gas engine with 360 hp and 380 lb.-ft. of torque

Ok, nice, thats enough for anyone.

> Standard All-wheel Drive and HD Locking Rear differential

Ok thats really nice, you wont get stuck

Its obviously catering to government rather than recreational needs, especially with it being ready for "up armoring". It would be nice to have one for free but id never sink 80k into one if it cant pull more than 3000 lbs.

Most consumers don't take their SUVs off road though they just want a living room on wheels to head to the mall. Manufacturers adapted, can't blame them too much

You almost got me.

2/10

What?

Oh, and here I thought you were intentionally trolling. Instead you're just an idiot.

>Implying the Xterra was replaced by the Unibody Pathfinger

I like previous, boxier, generation looks wise. Be nice to find a maintained last year truck. Build a nice capable rig out of a 94.

There is a truck I've seen a few times near me thats dressed up like the ones from the original Jurassic Park(1993) minus the bubble glass roof.

Wonder if it has an interactive cd rom?

And then we get shit like Hummer H2. Completely useless shit compared to H1. What a bunch of wussies as far as I'm concerned.

The 3000lb trailering doesn't seem right. The chassis and suspension reinforcement shouldn't really eat in to the towing capacity that much.

>be poorfag and want an suv
>Mazda CX-5 has almost everything I want on a suv
>they don't sell it with awd in my country
>ford escape also has almost everything I want and a bigger engine for the same prize
>4x2 , no awd option at all in my country
>the only other decent option is the fucking cr-v
Why are Mazda and Ford so fucking shit.

Neither of those are SUV's.

THIS

Well they aren't vans either, and they are advertised as suvs, what they are?

"raised cars with shitty driving and mileage"?

That doesn't roll off the tongue that well, point still stands.

They are what the industry call "Crossovers".

AKA, massive pieces of shit that got their worldwide debut with the royally panned Pontiac Aztek in 2000.

They WANT you to think it's an SUV, but it's not, they never were, never will.

So just buy a crossover...

But they are fairly tall and have more ground clearance than a car.

Well anyways, crossovers, they still suck and SUV are too expensive for a daily driver.

You shut up about the 4.0
Mine has worked just fine at carrying children, camping gear and a pair of jet skis for 210k miles

Just get a used V6 truck, old 4runners aren't expensive to maintain at all.

>AWD 5.0 Explorer

You mean Mountaineer

(yeah, i know same thing but still)

Shut your whore mouth about the 4.0 sohc... Got it at 160k sold it at 200k, treated it like dog shit, and the only thing I had to change was a thermostat.

Thank god for GM. Honestly, once the Tahoe becomes a crossover based on the Cruze I will probably just off myself.

Lmao. what a stupid looking piece of shit.

>inb4 too big

Nigga it was literally a crew cab F-250 with an enclosed bed. The thing was huge.

Underrated post.

No, I dont.

Its an Explorer and it has AWD and a 5.0

No I wont. Every last 2nd gen explorer 95-01 that had a SOHC engine was flawed. Ford fixed the issue in 2003. Therefore, any made before that date is subject to issues. Just because you didnt have issues doesn't mean that they all didnt.... a simple google search will show you it was cancer.

Ill concede on the 4.0 OHV, even if its a little down on power itll still go just as long as the 5.0.

That's what a cheap pickup truck is for.

>gmfleet.com/chevrolet/suburban-hd-heavy-duty-suv.html

>3000lb towing capacity

what the fuck? how is that possible? thats less than my 3200lb WET regular cab 98 tacoma. my wife's boss has a yard full of square body suburbans and I'm pretty sure he uses them to haul his square body pickups, which has to come out to 6000lbs total at least.

>wants ground clearance and good AWD
Just get a Crosstrek you nigger

Im guessing its only got a bumper hitch.

Of course they know the market and I guess the market didn't give a shit about it having a 10k pound towing capacity.

So they just said fuck it, bumper hitch only.

So weird though.

The car based suv is the new minivan. No one wants a minivan so they turned them into so called suvs.

why don't you just get a new Toyota Hilux

Wait...no way. i have a 2005 suburban with 7,600lb towing capacity. That has to be 3,000 kilos

It might be lacking the basics like a trans oil cooler.

pic related is my car
>red pill me on the 98 pathfinder
>whats good
>whats bad
>what modifications should i make

Thats what a lot of mexi spics drive.

Says the faggot driving a 1997 honda civic.

Yeah right

>all the itnerior space of a car with the maneuverability of an SUV
>shit gas mileage unless you drive 10 under the limit everywhere
>can't see anything out of the windows (modern car fault)
>gaudy cheap plastic interior
>16 year old infotainment system
>useless features

t. highlander driver

I dont get whats so good about sport cars with their mighty handling in the streets. Handling is almost useless in dd. I bet you have never hit a track. If you have a 400+ hp to the wheels landbarge is even more entertaining punching the gas and seeing the pig squat and tries to run. Now if you tracked it I would say otherwise. The mpg isnt a problem for ppl who dont give a shit about gas. Its not like muscle/sport cars are any better. Another benefit is not caring where you are going since you just drive over shit. Its just a preference after all. Everyone wastes their sheckles on their taste after all. If i were to ever get a can I would get a mighty ls fbody and mod it. Otherwise fuck your economy jew boxes.

This gift is the best gift jesus christ could have given us. All in your knees and praise the mighty LS king of push rods. The chad of engines.

Not true. Nissan's been working on an SUV variant of the D23.
motoring.com.au/nissan-navara-based-suv-outed-109664/
Midsize pickup based SUVs are big business these days.

They still exist, just in countries where the general automotive buying market isn't backwards retarded.

I CAME ITT TO POST THIS.

this is just stupid, though
>wide
>tall
>wasted space
>no crumple zones
>the front hood is FLAT, reducing visibility
>the roof pillars are WIDE, reducing visibility

it just look like a vehicle designed in a competition where everything but car parts could be used.

Ford explorer was fucking garbage in the 90’s

This unibody cute ute will out climb any stock 90’s body on frame SUV

They used to be trucks with a large cabin added, now they are minivans with bigger rims and tires. If you drive a modern suv, you drive a minivan. Congrats, even a creepy fat guy with a large van, and is probably a pedo, has a cooler car than you.

You do realize that this is also meant for military use? Function over form. You can add all those parking radas and cameras if the visibility is so bad.

What should I know about a Bronco II before I buy one?

This one's got a Grooms reman motor and a 5 speed, but cracked flywheel so they want 500 sheckels. I know it probs needs tires too but it looks so comfy and mint.

No it won't you fucking chode.

Consider my interest piqued.

Hope it comes with stick shift.

That thing got absolute shit MPG, even by SUV standards, I remember I had to drop off at least a few gas cans to my friend because his fuel gauge was on the fritz in his.

It looks like someone made an offroad version of the Top Gear Hammerhead i-eagle thrust.

>itt: delusional muh toyoshit chink lovers
>pic related the one and true SUV

never forgetti

>engine: fails at 30k
>FCA quality

>le ebin quality meme
Hello ching chong san
How many dolphins have you killed today?

design choices are for aero. they run cars through advanced computer simulations now and what comes out is this type of design. that's why all non specialist cars, trucks, and SUVs look almost exactly the same.

you're supposed to be excited that SUVs of today get twice the mileage as those of yesterday. that's because they design them around people who commute with them, not for people who offroad them. for the appliance vehicle, bluetooth, cameras, and monitors are big features, because people spend their time listening to spotify on the freeway and fitting into parking spaces at work.

OwO

I'm sorry, I meant 10k. I can't believe I thought a fucking Fiat would actually make it past 15,000 without a major issue.

You're confusing FCA Grand Cherokees for Daimler Grand Cherokees.
