How much worse will traffic get when electric cars become common and inevitably run out of charge on the road?

how much worse will traffic get when electric cars become common and inevitably run out of charge on the road?

Just think of all the traffic jams that will be caused while a Tesla with dead batteries waits in the middle lane of the highway for a tow or a mobile charger truck. things will only be made worse with electric trucks

mediocre bait

considering how much they scream at you about being low on charge and how they can easily route navigation to the nearest charging station saying GO HERE STUPID and how if you're charging overnight, you basically have a full tank every morning...

i'd say low risk

Why should it be more frequent than cars running out of fuel?

Not gonna happen as SuperCharger stations become increasingly common, battery tech improves and range goes up along with it, and the car suggesting it needs a recharge and it might be a good idea to take a slight detour through the nearest charging station.

>implying it won't have a DRM walling off 20% of your battery
>you hit your battery limit, it dies, you pay a fee to temporarily unlock the rest of your battery to limp to a charging station

"It's a roadside safety feature"

>put in your GPS where you are going
>your computer sees you don't have enough charge to get to your destination
> it sees there are no more charging stations coming up
>forcibly stops and self drives to turn into a charging station whether you want to or not
>probably a big name station that has paid GM to have priority over other stations for when this feature kicks in

"It's a roadside safety feature"

much lower range than gas and if you get stuck in rush hour traffic like say Toronto's 401 you are fucked.

>batteries overheat during a heat wave

As long most other car makers offer a liquid or gas fueled range extrender it probably won't happen all that often but electric vehicles startups are going to hate that because it means you won't be using one of their network stations for your energy.

$.50 has been deposited into your account

Because power outlets are so rare.

Would you knock on someone's door and ask if you can charge your car on their mains?

Electric cars don't idle. They're basically off when you're not moving. Accessories don't use much power.

But i live in an actual country that is bigger than 200km across so electric vehicles will never be viable here.

unless you live in a state that gets winter and you have to chose between having heat or getting home

which is not a good thing since restarting over and over again pu a lot of strain on the battery and cause a surge in power comsumption.

On the other hand traffic will accelerate more quickly because electric engine.

what the fuck
this is quality bait

Electric cars use way, way less power at low speedds than gas cars. Go a steady 30mph in an EV and the range doubles or triples. An effect of the extremey low efficiency of gas cars at low speeds and idling like engine load

why would this be bait? The starter drains the battery and it has to be recharged, by the alternator, whis is driven by the engine, which burns additional fuel for that. Whether it wil really cause a "surge" is another matter.

>how much worse will traffic get when electric cars become common and inevitably run out of charge on the road?

why do you think Tesla works on auto-pilot and stuff?

The answer is quite simple: once battery is running low the car will automagically drive itself to the nearest charger station. How cool is that?

Quick reminder that individual motor transport will never be the solution, regardless of how electrified or autonomous it is. Make individual transport muscle powered and make motor transport collective. Cars need to become a hobby object like horses. The globalization needs to be reversed. Regionalism is the solution.
