The only time they've nerfed a class during a patch has usually been extremely, extremely lighthanded, unless it was for really glaring balance reasons like removing Thunder from crossclass.

You can start from either 1 or 50 at any given time, and it saves your weapon/armor levels unless you spend them to buy stuff.
