Why are there no lightweight, cheap RWD shitboxes anymore? CanĀ“t they drop a common FWD drivetrain in the rear of a small and light platform? A bit like the AW11, just smaller and lighter. Like 1,3-1,50 m wide, 0,7-1m high, under 700 kg and wedge a e s t e t i c s.
Due to the lack of aerodynamic drag, light weigh and eventualy small engine options it would even help the manufacturer to meet fleet mpg requirements.

Nobody wants to do donuts except you fags. And since none of you can actually afford a new car, manufacturers aren't going to switch to an inferior drivetrain layout only to have it not sell because people with a brain want front-engine, front-drive - the superior layout for so many reasons.
Camden Rodriguez
>superior layout for so many reasons What is better on FF than on MR? Weight ballance is horrible as well as dynamic load tranfer under accelleration.
Easton Cruz
Volvo 340
Ian Johnson
Except youre not on a race-track
FF is the far superior layout for normal people who just want to go to work and get home and everything in between
Eli Moore
What is the benefit of FF?
Ethan Peterson
gt86? even has lsd included
Cooper Moore
>doesn't need the weight of long drive train so lightweight and compact >easier to control when pushing I don't know what else really
Angel Bennett
Handling. MR/RR (let's face it they're the same thing) are prone to oversteer. That can cause trouble when avoiding emergencies at a high speed. In fact some of the most dangerous cars in the world, such as the Corvair, were rear-engined.
Cargo and passenger room. Since all the drivetrain elements are ahead of the passenger compartment, there's plenty of room for several people and their cargo. How many (modern) rear-engined cars have rear seats that are actually usable by normal-size people, if they even have rear seats at all? And how about rear-engined cars with space to put anything substantial? Tesla doesn't count since it's a smartphone with wheels, not a real car. Nice try fag.
Engine accessibility and maintenance. Rear-mounted engines are typically shoved into a space the size of a shoebox. You can actually work on front-mounted engines without having to remove the engine.
Dylan Wright
Superior rally layout.
Jacob Wilson
>doesn't need the weight of long drive train so lightweight and compact But MR drivetrain is just as short as FF? >easier to control when pushing ESP exists
Nathan Allen
>MR/RR (let's face it they're the same thing) No, RR is behind the rear axle, MR over/in front of it. Both drivetrains are build in a completely different way. >How many (modern) rear-engined cars have rear seats that are actually usable by normal-size people, if they even have rear seats at all? The only modern rear engined car I know is the Porsche 911 with its 6 cylinder boxer behind the engine. Mid engined cars are for example the twingo and smart.
Elijah Gonzalez
>behind the engine. *behind rear axle
Henry Miller
The toyobaru will be a lightweight cheap rwd shitbox soon. no joke I see them at about 10x the rate of silvias. They're going to be super cheap because lol subaru engine. When was the last time you saw an old subaru?
Adam Bailey
Might as well make it FF as it is the superior drive train anyway.
Jaxon Reed
>small
It's all about muh safety nowadays. That's why crossovers are so popular now, and why the GT86 is as big and heavy as a 60s muscle car like the GTO. Market research has indicated that FF shitboxes and crossovers are the only cars that are profitable, and explains why only American SUVs are the only truck based, body on frame style compared to foreign, car based, unibody crossover "SUVs".
It's all about money. RWD Jap and Euro cars existed purely to exploit the malaise era where American RWD sports cars were ridiculously weak and expensive. It was only because of the Malaise era that the Fairlady Z was able to beat American muscle cars, it was only because of the malaise era that BMWs were the most popular RWD sedans. Once the malaise era was over, the foreigners pulled out.
Sebastian Thomas
>small >rear engine, rear wheel drive >sub 1000kg >90hp, or the Gt with 109hp This is the best you can get
Samuel Campbell
better handling in snow
John Gray
>When was the last time you saw an old subaru? all the time?
Leo Green
That's a can of worms subject to your definition of better. For equal eight and power a rwd car will perform better in snow but a fwd is more accessible for the untrained masses. Volvo for example built their image on safety and were slow to adopt fwd.
Carter Clark
>prone to oversteer Oversteer is easier to correct quickly than understeer. Countersteering is much nicer and more controllable than just braking and hoping for the best
John Bell
are these things selling?
Adam Morgan
>tfw renault had to put so many nannies into that so people actually dont oversteer and enjoy driving it
Xavier Gomez
You forgot global market
Even if america is okay wirh lax standards, if america wants to do business around the world us car companies got to suck it up and do to global standards
One ford/gm global horseshit
Josiah Brown
At least we still have the mx-5
Hudson Watson
Fuck the mx-5 it's done more harm than good by attracting convertible fucktards. It would have been a lighter, stiffer, better car with a roof.
Carter Smith
I see them in Germany from time to time, yes
Luis Evans
Because people buy lightweight cheap shitboxes for economy, not doriftos. And FWD is better at economy. Less weight, less drivetrain loss.
Brody Turner
Huh, Satan is a busrider that watched too much Initial D. You learn something new everyday.
