So I've decided that my next car is going to be a first gen Lexus SC. The question is which one do I go for, the 2JZ or the 1UZ?
I love I6's but I've never had a V8 before

SC300s came manual and auto but mostly auto.

SC400s only came auto.

engine config doesn't really matter its a 25 year old car lad.

>Lexus SC
>Vizsla dog
>VP9

the meme purchases this website makes are unbelievable.

Its a shitty old car, you're better off getting something else.

>The question is which one do I go for, the 2JZ or the 1UZ?

>2JZ
Pros: More mod potential; available with a manual transmission; usually cheaper sale price than the V8
Cons: Slower especially with the automatic; manuals are rare and usually more expensive

>1UZ
Pros: More powerful/faster; sounds better
Cons: Virtually non-existent aftermarket compared to 2JZ; no manual available from factory; gas mileage sucks compared with modern cars

...That said, they are both fairly reliable engines provided that they haven't been neglected. If you prefer cloth seats, the only JZ models had them. If you decide you want to mod it, by somebody's failed shitbox instead of ruining a nice one. The 1996MY UZ made slightly more power due to raised CR. For 1998+ models VVTi was introduced so the V8 made even more power and while the VVTi 1JZ didn't get more power, it did have get more yield more torque. Styling changed in '95 and then again in '97 so you may want to pay attention to which front/rear you like best.

A cat back exhaust makes the 1UZ sound amazing. Not too loud, but very raspy and low. Both engines are great. You're basically c hosing between power and duel efficiency
>18mpg on premium in the city c;

Other than the memetastic quad cams, the 1UZ is fairly easy to work on, and can handle boost fairly well on stock internals.

not OP but isnt the 2JZ in the SC300 non turbo? Is there much mod potential in the non-turbo 2JZ?

The rest sounds right though.

I'm going to get better than that since I'm doing 30mi of straight roads out in the country at 50mph

You'll never find a manual version for sale, and if you do it'll cost 6-8k because of memes, so no point in even mentioning it.

This

Those cars are so grossly overpriced it's ridiculous. They're right up there with is300s and cobras

>not OP but isnt the 2JZ in the SC300 non turbo?
Correct.

>Is there much mod potential in the non-turbo 2JZ?
Quite a bit actually. There are some NA-T pushing reliably pushing ~400whp. There are some running almost 30psi making nearly 600whp, but those are only for a single pass at a time and you can bet that they are seeing much more frequent rebuilds.

Former IS300 owner here: 2JZ-GE is a sexy engine and if you like I6s you'll love it. But if you want to go fast, get the V8. You'll get shit gas mileage either way. Any manual car will cost more and be in worse shape, so just get the automatic. It's an old Lexus, you're gonna cruise in it anyway. They're fun

And this one is only $6300 with 120K on the odometer.

>Doesn't mention mileage anywhere
>run my dealer carfax
>accident, 5 owners, 160k
>for almost 5k

Literally half of CL postings are like this

Didn't say it was a great thing, just something I saw recently. If I were going to reach that far back for a car I'd get another Subaru SVX and gut the bitch and rebuild it as it should have been. I dig the glass on glass bubble, though I'm pretty sure the whole car acted as some sort of weird Faraday cage that liked to block signals.

protip: avoid literally half of Craigslist and you'll be off to a good start

>SC300/400 are getting way more popular every year
>prices have already started bottoming out
>I have 3 good condition full interiors in my basement

sc300s are like the supras retarded cousin. if you delete the hideous high beams they look decent though

Get a turbo manual op

Yeesh, now it looks like an s14 had an ugly baby with a Stratus.

I plan on getting a 400 some day and putting in a turbo. There's a shop in Florida that custom fabricated a kit for some guy. They are thinking of making it into a kit for sale soon. They already sell kits for a cd009 swap too. Plus, they sound fucking AMAZING

youtu.be/3P_C1_fIc9I?t=11

>>prices have already started bottoming out
I noticed this in the last couple of years, too. It's mainly just the clean low-mileage examples and ones that have the factory manual transmission, but I still hate it nonetheless. I blame the stancefags and people who believe the "Lexus Supra" meme. I was actually looking forward to buying my 3rd Z30 in the near future...

That actually looks worse.

Shit taste, soyboy.

I agree. I think the only way it could look good, is if custom light were fabricated to meld the circular high-beams in to the lows, making one solid uniform light.

>getting rid of the quadruple insect bugeyes
Why would you do this? Now the car looks awfully plain and generic

What's wrong with vizslas? I almost got one but ended up getting Bernese instead

Like this?

>you'll never find a manual version for sale

bruh they are rare but they aren't that rare. You sound underage.

that is fucking ugly. looks like an Rx8 now

Considering that's the whole country, that's not that many. And most of those miles are high as fuck

If you get the 2jz make sure it's none vvti. Vvti has the weak internals that can't handle 300hp. The none vvti (has the stronger internals) in good condition, good luck.

Wait a fucking second...

Hey I need some tan rear seats

They are great cars. If you will ever mod it get the 300 otherwise get the 400. You can swap in a manual to either. The manual transmission that came with the 300 will break after ~330 hp. So if you mod you'll have to swap it out anyway

Why not get a is300 for the 2jz and manual transmission. They're newer and nicer too. Swapping a manual tranny for the 1uz is not that difficult

>Swapping a manual tranny for the 1uz is not that difficult
Have you ever done it?

the point is I proved him wrong.

>high miles

gotta pay to play. If you don't believe in the free market you can fuck off to North Korea

yeah he's done it, in fucking Forza lmao

Honda Legend Coupe

I'm old enough to be your daddy little weaboo boy hahahahahah

>the point is I proved him wrong
Never change, Veeky Forums...

its all that counts nigga

Agree. It's really hard to justify spending the cost on an old car when you could just get a new one with modern features and shit-- and I don't mean bluetooth. I mean little things that they get better at over time, like suspension, or shifter feel

You forgot sebenza.

It looks like a chinese rip-off of a del sol

if you can, find a series 3, they are better, and a lot of minor issues are fixed or updated.

What's wrong with Vizslas? We've been breeding wirehairs for fowl hunting since the 50s
