You can't go wrong with any of those. Almost anything you get from Yamaha or Kawasaki is going to be of quality, and will last you as long as you want it to. Honda is also up there in reliability and quality, regardless of their cb300s, most of their bikes are absolutely amazing for both commuting and weekend fun.
My vote goes for Kawasaki since the Ninja 650 and this Z650 are amazing in almost every way, but you can get just as much fun and quality out of a Yamaha FZ6R or FZ.

I'm not a huge fan of supermoto, it's just not my style. If I'm getting a dual sport it's going to have knobbies and be taken offroad all the time.
The 1090 is an expensive, larger adventure bike. If I get a used bike, I'd rather get newer and lower mileage with less displacement than older with more mileage just for power I won't utilize.
So I guess Yamaha reigns kind? :^)

Dual sport on the highway is a bad time regardless what you've brought, KLR sucks the least at highway because it's fucking heavy, but sucks even harder off road as a result.
KLR650's only redeeming trait is that it's dirt cheap.
The KLR250's is a decent bike, especially if one swaps forks from a 650.
Still need to get rid of the stickers and unfuck some of the uglyness from the PO. Magpul logo may stay though.

I bought some headlights for my bike and the wires look like this.
Obviously the conections that my bike has for the original headlight dont fit onto these.
