F1 Halo Drivers Protection Confirmed For 2018 Season

What the fuck is this thing good for?

Apparently it protects the driver and improves safety. It will be mandatory for all cars starting from next year.

Whats next? Bubbles around the car? Since F1 sets the trends for the general automotive industry. Will you guys buy an after market Halo for your shitbox?

What's wrong with bubbles around the car?
Plenty of racing series use enclosed cockpits.

the HALO won vs a closed cockpit/shield solution

Sebastian Vettel reported that a shield made him dizzy and then theres dirt, sun glare and other issues involved with a shield.

The halo seemed to be safer aswell and was the only out of the 4 remaining drivers safety solutions that withstood the FIA crash test lol

Halos lmao ... this is the future

it looks to me like a baby stroller.. with a bar in the front, to make sure baby can't fall out so easily. I mean, retarded design but meh, haven't been watching F1 since some retard decided to abolish 20000rpm engines...

>maximum time for evacuation increased from 5s to 7s
>Bottas was timed at 9.7s
Will FIA have to order fire to burn slower for 2018?

will last half the season, then they'll drop it forever since no one is going to die on track for the next years anyway

That is easily solved by changing to electrical f1 cars. ICE is too dangerous even for professional racing drivers

why don't they just harden the fuck up and accept death is possible if they fuck up.

no that would be reasonable, soybois and the other low test faggots in the fia don't have reasoning capabilities

Except Nico Hülkenberg, he told other drivers are pussies for wanting it.

kill the flip flop

>race open cockpits
>complain about danger
Ah yes, very smart bunch

>a shield made him dizzy and then theres dirt, sun glare and other issues involved with a shield
They already have to wear a helmet with a plastic visor. Is there any difference between a shield and a visor besides "visor is smaller and moves with your head"?

the angle and curvature at which the shield he tested had to be mounted created a lot of distortion. if you weren't looking straight ahead and tried to look at your mirrors or the apex i'd imagine you'd be looking at curved glass that would give a "funhouse mirror" kinda effect.

they have multiple visors and they just throw one away during the race when it gets dirty

>Since F1 sets the trends for the general automotive industry.

That was the case a few decades ago. As of recently it has been following automotive trends.

So you move from gasoline burning to batteries exploding... And then burning.

If the primary purpose of the halo is to protect the driver from debris, it's going to do fucking nothing. Closed canopy is the only sensible solution.

>inbf "but muh open cockpit"

>Blocks vision
>Improves safety

not only debris but it also provides crash protection similar to a rollbar

they sometimes fly and roll over

i think in 2016 they had an accident where 2 cars stacked on top of each other and one car was resting on a drivers head

Yeah it's fucking cuck

F1 2018 will be an awful game to play lmao

What happened to just accepting death?

> Whats next? Bubbles around the car?
don't you have airbags?

>Will you guys buy an after market Halo for your shitbox?
My cars come with roofs. I'm seriously considered installing a roll cage into my supra.

normies and sponsors hate death i think

Yeah that shit is gay.

not as gay as tripfagging

don't install a cage unless you plan to also remove the airbags and install harnesses.

I have that discussion with a friend of mine sometimes
he always says 'they could die'
yeah and they accept that, if they cant then they should go race in wec or something else

Why is it a bad thing? Not like the cars don't look ridiculous and stupid already.

Lol yup. It's like a flip flop POV

I fucking hate normies.

I also hate when people get funny when I say death isn't scary. It fucking happens and once you embrace it, life is better. Besides, death/adrenaline makes you a better driver anyway.

>F1 cars look stupid

I beg your pardon.

Why do you think the cars look ridiculous and stupid? Because they're not Senna's dayglow McLaren?

it's not so much the death part that scares them, it's more the 'taking a tire to the face and ending up a vegetable a la Schumacher' that they're worried about. the cars are safe in crashes, but the drivers are still exposed to debris.

Well you posted a picture of a car that doesn't look stupid. The new cars do.

No, I still like the early 2000s cars, but the antennas and what ever make the cars look too busy

>Electric
>professional racing drivers
youtube.com/watch?v=vG1VPss4LKI

You do realize more time has passed from F2001 till today that the time between MP4/4 and F2001, right?

not like theyd feel or notice being vegetables, also schumacher's injury was from skiing. I think you mean more like Jules Bianchi, but the crash was his fault and the injury was the track safty crew's fault for having the tractor in a spot where someone else already went off because of the wet mixed with bad luck.

F1 would be a lot more fun if they slowed the cars down and gave them more technical tracks. Slower cars and more technical tracks = more overtaking attempts, no need for any more crash structures, and much cheaper racing

schumacher fell and hit his head on a rock, even had a helmet on.

yeah but that would defeat the purpose f1 as and still aimed to be at the top of the technology and speed
otherwise it's just F2

Fuck this ""Sport"" man.

>would be a lot more fun if they slowed the cars down and gave them more technical tracks
youtube.com/watch?v=1IMx4aWgeRk

Formula 1 needs to decide whether it is Manufacturer series or a Driver series.

we're obviously reaching the limit of how fast people are comfortable with traveling, so now it's time to work on all the other aspects of going from point A to point B

nah they're far from G's you get in a plane and they don't even wear anti g clothing

tires are the always the limits anyway

>What the fuck is this thing good for?
It's basically adding a "rollcage" to F1 cars.
Y'know, these things that are mandatory in basically every other type of motorsport.

...

i mean psychologically. they're obviously not comfortable going any faster if they don't have more protection, so let's take a step backwards and make the tracks and cars more suited to lots of overtaking and dial back the reliance on engines so we have tighter racing and a better mix of faces on the podium.

>implying it is wrong to let suicidal people kill themselves

...

most the pilots don't like it and they're not the one that decide of these stuff

not at all it's only to prevent wheels from killing the pilot like it happened in F2 and indycar

So why does F1 need rollcages then?

because we can't let you have nice things

yeah because as a pilot you're literally government property, and pilots die all the time in freak accidents. but there's a difference between a sport and a piece of fighting equipment.

yeah, and?
Didnt happen in a racing car so that point is moot, Jules' crash happened in a race car

oh boy, another 'badass Veeky Forums poster who would gladly step into the hellfire for a chance to race for the heart of m'lady'. why do i even try to reason with you guys. you should just go into the military and be whisked away into valhalla like you obviously want to.

What?

they have a union or something similar but they aren't the ones that decides what's going in f1

>Electric
>Not bursting into flames after a crash

Or you should get whisked away in an open cockpit car if you want

GIB V10 NOW!!!!

youtu.be/rQ-IaLgRjtw?t=122

anyone that says 'death is just a part of the job they should get used to it' is obviously too badass to be posting on Veeky Forums.

>since f1 sets the trends for the general automotive industry
cars have had an integrated rollcage, multiple airbags, elaborate crash structures, decades of crash testing data, and all sorts of other implementations in the name of safety. if anything, the general automotive industry is leading F1

and another, unrelated thing. F1 hasn't been the most technological racing series for -years-. every year they purposefully neuter progress in the name of competition and 'popularity' by putting freezes on engine configuration, driver aids, dimensions, etc. the real 'leader' in technological progress is the LMP1 division that is actually driving forward our common vehicles with hybrid technology, performance diesels, sporty ergonomics, and structures that are built to take a beating.

this is the real reason for the decline of F1, people have much smaller attention spans today than they did 10-15-20 years ago. people don't want to sit through a whole race to see epic pitting strategies and race-long battles for position. what they want to see is a shit ton of overtaking and close calls, and sexy open-wheel racers. slow the cars down, put a couple more turns in the courses, and for pete's sake stop driving F1 towards rich people because it's the middle class that supports any successful racing series (looking at you NASCAR)

i'd rather just stick to an actual sporty design

With pilots he meant drivers, F1 drivers don't much like the Halo system.

F1 has so much Euro faggotry i don't know why anyone would chose it over indy car.

youtube.com/watch?v=V8fZOOpe9ZY

because it has actual tracks and not glorified ovals or even the revolutionary SQUARE

well they wanted cockpit protection and the halo was the only thing that actually worked.

They already have that, it's called Formula E and guess what?
>It's a fucking joke

So we get this retarded thing all because Jules Bianchi was to retarded to stay on track during a fucking yellow flag

too*
and no it because of the death in formule 2 and indycar they statue that it wouldn't have any effect on his accident
his family pushed for more protection though

>oil rig workers
>high seas fishermen
>linemen
>roofers
>skyscraper builders
>bull rider
>marine salvage divers
>loggers
there's plenty of jobs out there that can kill you and yet people accept the risk and do them sweetie. Doesnt mean youre forced to do them
Also you get paid a fuckton to put your life on the line every time you step in the car so theres that
Oh and did I mention that nobody's forcing you to race in F1?

>because it has actual tracks and not glorified ovals or even the revolutionary SQUARE

Being this retarded. Eurofag was probably triggered because his low emission green peace approved, pigfat electric tampon dispenser can't go 230+ miles per hour on an oval.

espn.com/racing/schedule/_/series/indycar

look at the schedule. there were only 2 oval tracks in 2017.

oh boy another Veeky Forums badass. c'mon post pictures of how cool you are

Welp, between Lewis being an insufferable cunt and this I think I am done with F1.

>Guys what if cars had a cage around the driver

Next for F1: AM/FM radio, leather seats

>MotoGP
There have only been four rider deaths in the 2000s.

Two japanese riders, one in moto2, at japanese circuits (hard barriers). One italian (helmet cafe off). One spaniard (also hit a wall).

There have been five fatalities in F1 since the year 2000. The cause being other cars more often than not.

motoGP without walls: safer than F1.

the average oil rig worker is actually an ugly, skinny cunt so i don't think he's going to do that

do you have any idea how butthurt this can make an american car enthusiast?

cars have been made pigfat thanks to the government telling me that i don't have the right to risk my life if i'm on four wheels. i can not register something like an ariel atom as a regular car, but i can still carry a passenger on a hayabusa wearing swim clothes. or drive my whole family in a rickety "classic" where any collision is a guaranteed steering column through the chest for the driver and possible death for everyone else. and it has no catalytic converter, none, not even a less than efficient one, NONE, so everyone around the car gets to breath unburned petrol. but it's okay 'cuz it's americana and not one of dem euro race cars.

From reading this thread, I’m not surprised Veeky Forums has proven itself once again to not be worthy of major automotive decisions.
The less danger to the driver, the better. Even dangerous jobs come with a ton of safety precautions and regulations; racing should be no different.

>Need halo to make car safer
>Wouldn't even save you from tractor cunt

They try to say it will stop parts from hitting the driver when it has massive gaps on it. There is literally no reason for it, it would not have saved Bianchi and he died becasue of his own stupidity. The last real accident fatality was in 94.

A bunch of guys wizzing around hairpins in oversized gokarts have a lower fatality rate than americans driving in a straight line at less than half the speed in safer cars, even though the americans spend more hours practicing straight line driving.

And if you give them a cage, and say that brings them down to 0, what's that say about who we allow to operate cars?

literally can not see where you are going, how did they settle on this stupid shape?

>want to die and pay a million a year just for the privilege of racing
>compete in F1
>want to live and be paid to race
>compete in motoGP and be extra careful around walls

Jesus Christ, what is shit show?

>not only debris but it also provides crash protection similar to a rollbar

Yet no one dies in F1

youtube.com/watch?v=x45fLUTHCuk

F1 cars already have roll protection

I am fine with improving safety, but why would you put shit right infront of the drivers line of sight?

>safety
ahahahahahahahahahah

...

This is unplayable without VR. They need to make it semi-transparent for normal players.

you literally picked the worst example out there
at least be honest you don't need to exaggerate shit

Who cares. F1 hasn't been good in 16 years.

>we want more rich kids and wymimz drivers
you just know....

hows that got anything to do with the argument, the argument is that the drivers accept the risk of death

Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "halo car" whatever that meant in the first place.

Halo looks a little better without the sharkfin and coathanger. Shield looked 10x better though.

This cannot be fucking real. Is that actually what the driver sees?

cuckpit

lmao, I bet a 335i would win a race against these cars.

I agree that LMP1 was more compelling but its also dead because it is so damn expensive.

Also I agree on attentionspan stuff.

Love me some endurance racing though.

Indy has a mix between street, road, and Oval, which is patrician's choice.

They are car designed for high speed ovals so they go slower on the street courses but its still best racing IMO.

I like f1 though, only caught a few races this season.

Its annoying in F1 because you are literally sitting around waiting to see if #4 passes #5 because everyone knows who is going to win and who will get 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

This most talked about guy this season was Kimi (dude is some faggot kim kardashian tier celebretity worship thing giong on with redditors) because he got 3rd.

F1 should be a building contest first but Indy is a driver contest and its better racing right now IMO.
