only problem is the FM stations don't go up to our aus freqs (at the moment its only picking up some christian station on FM, kek), so i'll have to get an adapter installed, will get that done when i get the 3 inch speakers installed.

Kill yourself hipster trash.

Go fk urself ricer scum, that's a beautifully restored head unit

Don't hace the patience for that fampai. I'd just get the Chinky generic head units that have BT, card readers, etc. but look like vintage OEM radios.

is pic related hipster trash? its modified and period correct, like the OP.

It's still solidly defined as hipster, though.

that's really fucking cool user. is this like what was a really good aftermarket stereo in the 80s?

I wana do a period correct radio in my e34, this vid just convinced me

yeah man, top of the line. redic expensive then, even more redic now.

What car is this on?

wait found a better quality version

>check the price
>this was 1989

140,800yen in USD is $1250.

>some inflation website
$1,250 in the year 1989 is equivalent to $2,467.60 in 2017, a difference of $1,217.60 over 28 years.

2002 Mazda 323

1988 Toyota MR2 AW11 SC

also, whats something like this worth? going to have to up my insurance cover now. but by how much? :/

I'm guessing the thing to do is lurk ebay and find a shop that can refurbish or upgrade it?

wut?

was looking on ebay and found this, gonna have to keep looking for something used that might need some work done

yeah thats a previous years model i think. mine is similar (if not the same as) the kenwood krc 999 MK II, that lolhuge ebay link is too a MK I

How much you pay for yours?

$200 busted, about $700 in repairs. plus install, 2 amps... not cheap.

tesla model s

Damn, how's sound quality out of it?

as good as you record it.

But you would be playing off cassette tape? I don't know much about audio but don't those sound poor? I assume the head unit upscales in some way just wondering

A lot of money for some old ugly rice.

fpbp

It's only hipster trash if you put it on modern car

for you.

You're already a hipster if you're driving some old shitbox, this just makes it more so.

I must know what you drive user

Mate it doesn't matter, if you're driving some old car willingly, and using old parts to modify you're a hipster. Using something more modern is just too mainstream.

then i'm a hipster, enjoy your driverless car pleb.

Enjoy your $900 tape deck, it's soooooo retro!

This is the most 80s thing I've ever seen in a car interior.

Really cool, I bet that was expensive. Period correct head units from the 80s and 90s are just ridiculously expensive.

its worth alot more than $900, and i will enjoy it. its retro as fuck and goes with the car 100%.

try smiling once in a while. life isn't so bad m8.

>but look like vintage OEM radios.
w e w

good luck bud

>Mate it doesn't matter, if you're driving some old car willingly, and using old parts to modify you're a hipster.
I mean you're right in the strictest sense but what is the problem

I smile when for a quarter of the price I could have a CD player with Bluetooth, AUX, USB, and FLAC support along with modern hookups.

Good job on fulfilling your hipsterdom but it ain't me.

check this out. if any of you own a toyota or nissan from the era.

how old does a car have to be before you're a hipster? does the owners age come into account as well? is an 80 year old grandpa driving a car he bought in the 80's new, a hipster as well? or what? we need details to sort it out.

itt

That's a nice head unit OP and good job to restore something nice

But
>glorious 80's
the 80s really are the new 50s. The worst part is millennials who nostalgia trip for a decade in which they weren't even born. Anyone who remembers the 80s is pushing 40. But hey, it's not anyone's fault that the mid 00s were too fucking lame to romanticize

>$900
Yeesh. Your money is your money, but the 700 in repairs is steep. I bought a period correct AM/FM/CB for my truck on ebay, it was $20. The right channel is dead so I just have it on mono. $40 4x6 Panasonic speakers in a homemade bracket in the dash, $100 under-seat woofer. $20 FM modulator. Did the wiring myself, sounds plenty good for a $180 system in a 50 year old truck.

give it 10-20 years when all the kids who grew up in the early 2000s are hitting their late 30s/40s

I mean early alt rock is already considered dadrock and plays on dadrock stations.

FPBP

KitKat, your setup is garbage and you know it. Not everyone is satisfied with shit.

3k civic

if thats what you want in your truck mate, then do it. i ran a $200 deck in my other mr2 and it was fine, but not what i wanted, i wanted something as 80's radical as i could get, to go with my super 80's car.

>Not using minidisc as your hipster car audio format

you from the previous thread? hows it going? have you browsed yahoo auctions japan for all your md needs?

No actually, wouldn't it be easier to just get a net MD player and some new old blanks off eBay?

as long as you can get a cheap means of recording to them, then yeah for sure.

that MR2 one is just about what I am looking for to put in my own MR2
what a coincidence

you sound like my mom

i wonder if they actually installed them in all of these or just photo edited them in. :/

Kys

what do you do for phone charging

have a phone that lasts all day by not using it constantly.

should've got another photo of the radio that it replaced, but yeah this is a crop of a photo i took with the old radio that was in there before. The kenwood just looks so much better. fits the interior perfectly.

Looks good. I finally installed my Graphic EQ - for 4 hours then took everything back apart, the epoxy I used to mount the bracket wasn't strong enough. Redid it with structural adhesive, still need to slam it back in.

that looks mint m8

so good how the radio colours match up with the rest.

mememaster title achieved, was it worth it?

Lol I'm not kitkat, only slightly less clueless

Define early altrock. Radiohead?

man i just wanna put a cassette/cd player in my miata but fuck me its hard to find any
assist

this is so autistic

you guys are like the audiophiles of cars

have you seen new aftermarket radios? they look fucking retarded in older cars. period correct is the only way to not make your interior look like dog shit.

Just turn the screen off nibba fuck being a faggot about how things look

modern headunits sound better.

>just have a new radio in your car, but never use it
wut

cant your shit tier headunit turn its backlight off?

lol

you'd be better off having a non working period correct one in place and just having your "super new cool one" under your seat then?

but nobody EVER done this

why dont you follow meeeeeeeeeeee

i love that song.

What FM frequencies are used in Aus?

i think 88 - 108 iirc

Thanks

$300 for my setup vs. $125 for a modern shit looking one, I'd say yes

I did that in my Nova but had the deck in the glovebox, that was years before MP3/smartphones though so I needed a CD player. In my Mercury I just have an amp with volume knob on the dash, no deck necessary.

>yfw there are people ITT who think a 2017 radio with flashing lights and screens with bluetooth, wireless and streaming, put in the dash of that car would look better than a period correct one

Pretty nice piece, OP. But let's be honest, you only like it because you watched Initial D.

that looks great, I wish my e23 dash allowed for something like that

RHCP, Incubus, Nirvana, SOAD, Audioslave, Hoobastank, Soundgarden, etc etc

explain. they have one in initial d? :O

The criticism is paying so much out the ass for an average quality headunit with literally outdated inputs, aside from FM.

Muh retro, muh period correct, muh VFD and LEDs.

What is wrong with installing period correct equipment? Old stuff is fascinating.

>old rare stuff is expensive and bad
>who would want a 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO, it only has 300hp when you can get a 2017 ford mustang with 450hp! and thats ignoring the price difference!

>outdated inputs
Any input can be adapted to any deck directly, and no I'm not talking about tape or FM adapters. Old decks aren't that expensive outside of oddities and flagship Alpines.

That's an abysmal and unrelated comparison, and you know it.

CDs are cleaner sounding than both Vinyls and Cassettes, but the CD was a widespread success because of the lack of maintenance and ease-of-use, not for its inherent higher quality.
Not to mention that some people enjoy the sound of a needle on a vinyl, or the fuzz of a cassette, sound quality is to some extent subjective, else Brian wouldn't be driving a combined 170 inches of speaker with a treble delete.
I wont bore you with dynamic ranges and such, but CD's are vastly superior on a technical level.
But cassette holders are neat.
I wonder if the people so against spending money on old headunits are the same kinda people that spit on classic cars.
t. 90s Blaupunkt enthusiast

nakamichi, a high quality brand, check their prices compared to the kenwoods price.

(then kenwood is close to triple it)
its close to triple for a reason, it is/was insanely high tech for the era it was made.

just because a $50 deck made today shits on it in every way, doesn't mean its an old overpriced pos.

a ferrari 250 gto is worse than a mustang in every way coming from your point of view. its outdated, its slow, its uncomfortable, its not user friendly, maintenance friendly, its WAAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced, so which would you rather have? i'd take the v12 pos anyday m8

christ i want that storage in my car.

Not really, just buy old wrecks and you get them for nothing

>finding old wrecks before the mexicans have taken the old radios

ya dreamin

>Just because a $50 deck made today shits on it in every way, doesn't mean it's an old overpriced pos.

I'd say that's the very definition.

>People having nice things that aren't brand new
wow fags i bet you like B&O too

so you agree then, a 2017 mustang is better than a 1964 ferrari 250 gto.

ty for confirming your retardation.

>A mustang is better than a 250 GTO so that means a 50 year old piece of electronic equipment is better

You're taking one thing, electronics, and comparing them to the most sought after car in the world to 'prove' your point.
I bet you'd listen to clay cylinders if it meant street cred.

Stupid cunt.

because there's no such thing as sort after electronics?

cheer up you miserable cunt.

>waaa i don't know what im doing so ill create a strawman by reducing his arguement to an absuridity!!!!!!

People pay outrageous prices for outdated technology, literally every hobby has these people, be it Instruments, computers, TV sets, Lighters, Phones, Video games, books, VHS, the list goes on for-fucking-ever.
A gaudy 80s stereo would look ridiculous in a regular 06 mondeo.
A regular 200X stereo would look boring in a gaudy 80s shitbox.
Not everyone cares about being period correct, but at least the people who care are keeping some form of history alive by doing so.
Awfully curious what you drive, and what unit you got in it.
I assume since you're such a diehard against outdated sound quality, you must exclusively listen to .FLAC

in a 2017 tesla because anything old is hipster and shit tier.

thats pretty aesthetic not going to lie. Just put on kiss me kiss me kiss me by the cure and do some night cruising.

>a violin sold for 16 million

how does this make you feel? how many tendies will it take to sate your anger?

god damn thats a sexy car. I'm jealous right now

You don't have to have been alive in the 80s to like things that existed in the 80s. Most of the cars were boxy piles of shit but some things just looked fuckin cool.
