You might imagine that VAG uses profits from VW to pour into supercar brands that hemorrhage money but the reality is that isn’t how business works. If the brand can not produce a profit then they will simply discontinue projects until it becomes profitable, or kill the brand. In Porche’s case having additional cash flow from cars with a larger customer base provides them capital to reinvest elsewhere in specialty cars, racing, facilities, new tech, etc. It also increases foot traffic to the dealerships which logically results in net higher sales.

Like I mentioned above, it isn’t that they were going out of business and the Cayenne saved them, but additional cash flow/capital has a bunch of upsides to the company. It’s a case of “why not?” In the eyes of the firm.

I haven't driven one but from what I've heard you're right. However, the g-wagen might be the only SUV that actually looks good imo. And they sound amazing.
I know they're probably shit and are in no way worth the money, but that doesn't stop me from liking them, which is more than I can say about the Urus.

Porsche was in pretty serious financial trouble in the late 90s-early 2000s. The Cayenne turned that around so drastically that they could suddenly blow a massive amount of money on developing a halo car above the 911, which also happens to be one of the best drivers cars ever made and one of the last truly analog supercars.
