It's a George Lucas prequel situation. They're surrounded by yes men, so any idea they have will be acted upon even if it's trash.

Also, their camera men and editors have completely missed the point. Top Gear was filmed in such a way that it appeared to be spontaneous and unscripted, allowing you to easily suspend your disbelief. Grand Tour has fifty angles on every shot with perfect lighting and focus creating the polar opposite effect. It's a very American program. Reminds me of Lizard Lick Towing or something.

Even the stiff scripting would pass better if every shot wasn't as fluent. It might sound illogical but some of the voluntarily shoddy filming that happened in certain segments is precisely what made them believable in the first place.

Nope. Depending on what source you can get a hold of, you can usually watch in in 720p or sometimes 1080. Very rarely can you find 4k.

Because it was OVERLY scripted. The cars were a bit mehhhh (no one REALLY cares about a 35 minute long super car clip every fucking episode). The challenges started off horrible. Budget is so big the fun stuff you could do with your m8s is mostly gone. The American Stig is garbage. New track sucks. And the celebrity joke in and of itself turned off a LOT of people. The last couple episodes were okay. But it lost a lot of magic and creativity when the budget skyrocketed.

- loss of siarpc, it was perfect filler and segue, and it spoke to the people who really loved autistically analyzing laps
- loss of the news, fuck you Amazon top gear is a periodical show rooted in a place, time, and culture. I go back and rewatch anyways because the writing is top tier. Trying to make each episode a timeless classic museum piece that could attract more people to prime years on from shooting made it plastic, leading to last point
- loss of the BBC, as much as they are shit they made the boys work harder to have fun. And in the same way smoking weed was a thrill when it was illegal, fucking off with the budget and offending people was better when you knew there was a tightwad Brit fuming over it.

Man the footage of Hammond before and during his hot lap at the hill climb was eerie as fuck. Constantly telling himself not to look at the drops, saying that things could go wrong easily and he just looked incredibly nervous. I mean I'm sure they emphasized this stuff in editing but god damn.

Just finished watching it. The scripting didn't feel as forced as the first season, the celebrity segment is watchable, but granted it was always the least interesting segment in TG too. Gorgeous, great camerawork, good location, good cars, good banter.

All in all, it was a pretty good first ep desu.

Bored the living piss out of me.

Hopefully nobody. If I want to watch a decent driver take cars around a track and compare times, there's plenty of vids of Pobst at Laguna Seca. Besides, most of the cars they look at would suck at rallycross, and the Eboladrome was shit. celebs in a Jag has potential. If they can get a pair who have a real rivalry, it could be gold.

I liked that quite a bit. Everything felt a hell of a lot more natural than S1 and the celebrity section was great. I just hope we'll get a few cheap car challenges and I'd be surprised if we don't to be honest. They seem to have really taken criticism and advice on board.
