I've killed about 13 wyverns by this point and I don't think a single one has dropped the cinder, meanwhile I've seen random cinders lying around in the overworld for no reason after night

Which do you prefer and why?

I like corruptions aesthetic a lot more but crimson has way better gear.

Yeah, I know. But I get that many bosses require a "summoning ritual", and this sometimes without a guide is really hard to accomplish.

Look at terraria.gamepedia.com they have a pretty solid beginner's guide. And in general is the most complete guide you'll find, it also covers the gameplay basics and the bosses strategies.

Just get into a habit of shoving everything new you find to guide.
He can tell everything you can craft from an item.
And items can only be crafted into something if they have "material" in the tooltip.

Little over a year, right before 1.3
There was a few months long break where i did not post it, i had lost the link (i never left though), but i recently found it again.
Veeky Forums seems to be very evenly split about C vs C, ever since i first posted the poll Corruption was pulling ahead VERY slowly, but surely, until it reached 42% vs 58%. It stayed like that for a long time. Only recently after i found the link again did a few Crimson anons bring it to 43% v 57%
I'm also quite impressed that not only is this general still alive, but we keep getting new votes, which means we keep getting new posters.

I find this poll quite interesting and can't bear to bring myself to stop. A few people have complained about it but you can't please everyone, and i did a poll which asked wether i should stop or not and the majority told me to keep it. Besides, it's a free bump, an excuse for others to bump, and sometimes it generates a discussion.

Not quite easy to take serisouly when you take fucking minecraft over this.
Terraria is about progression, even if you don't enjoy building and shit you can always aspire to be the strongest guy there ever was and beat unique and strong bosses to prove that, and get even strong and unique way to crush your enemies
Games biggest charm is it's sense of scale and how packed with content it is, no matter what you do, there's always more to do.
It's 2D gameplay is one of the best metroidvania playstyle out there, if you genuinely dislike it you probably just don't like that gameplay style.

I'm not arguing for minecraft, like I said I haven't played it in years. I did enjoy it though- and I liked many of its core elements like its focus on surviving. As far as I remember this game doesn't have that, there is no farming, hunting, or eating just to survive. I know I sound like I'm defending minecraft, but I am simply comparing it to something that I like.

I got exactly the opposite feeling. Another thing that minecraft did right and this game didn't. It feels like you can walk from one end of the map to the other in a few minutes at most. You never get a sense of gigantic scale because of the zoomed in 2D screen.

I've never really thought about it that way but I guess you are right. However, I do like old-school metroid and I do like 2D games, but like I said before the controls in this game make that style of play complete shit. The mouse and keyboard does not do it any favors. Of course, Terraria isn't a survival game it's more of an open-world adventure game, you explore and find new things.
The good thing about it is that it offers you new things, and by new I don't mean a new weapon that has better stats, fundamentally new things that will give your adventuring and a new way of doing things. You'll get a grappling hook, an item that let's you jump twice, rocket boots, shield that let's you dash into enemies etc.

Get a bigger map size if that's how you want it, large is quite... well large.

It's not really imprecise... if you click over a block it breaks that exact block, if you mean that it's hard to hover over every single block you can use shift button like I mentioned.

Crimson is a lot better for blind LPs than corruption.
While corruption is mostly just creepy and unsettling, crimson can be actually scary
Crimson enemies are a lot more "HOLY SHIT THE FUCK IS THAT" than corruption ones.
And especially the hearts.
Shadow orbs are just "what?". You won't feel anything about it except maybe "this looks kinda mysterious".
But if you find a heart, you're gonnna be spooked.
"Did I just found a big floating heart? In a cave? And it's BEATING???"

The only moment where corruption wins over crimson is that EoW looks and feels scarier than BoC

Texture pack that upscales everything 2x and then "smooths" everything. Basically one of those "HD" packs that looks like a filter used on a SNES emulator.
I used it for a while but kept forgetting to disable it.

How to run Terraria at higher framerates on a shitty PC/laptop:

Windowed mode means Windows has to display everything else as well as the game, which can cause slowdown.

Blockier but faster lighting

Slow motion mode if this isn't on, better to have it either on or on Subtle for toasters/potatoes.

I run this game on laptop with 2.1ghz dual core integrated, 3gb RAM, 256mb video memory, with two 1080p monitors hooked up due to a dead screen. Runs 30-60fps just fine with those settings.

On another note, be careful with effect-heavy mods, especially Calamity's gear and Fargo's Essence Accessories.

That actually looks pretty nice, but if it's splash screen stuff, that's bad; we'll only see it when starting the game, and the splash screen doesn't even last that long.

The background will be one of many that can be picked when generating a Crimson World, anyway.
What I'm wondering is what the fuck do those skeletons belong to and if we'll ever see anything out of it from Otherworld or 2.

the mod is indeed shit and plainly incorrect on many points (particularly tooltips), but this one is correct. wyverns drop that shit.

suggestion: get fargos mod if you don't have it already, and make the battle cry/spawn booster item (needs a shitload of battle potions and water candles). the 10x spawn rate makes it a lot easier to farm some of that shit.
