Why isn't Itsuki the protagonist, why should I care about Takumi? Theres literally nothing relatable about him, Dagumi is a mary sue.

Itsuki is a believable character, slightly awkward fresh out of highschool teenager who aspires to become a street racer, purchases a shitbox without thinking it through, grinding day in and day out to pay for improvements on his shitbox, improving his racing skills slowly, falling in and out of love, Itsuki is best Initial D character, and you can't convince me otherwise.

He's got shitty lips

because he gets to a relatively attainable skill level , while needing the star as a way to gauge skill in relation over time

the face vagina is only a benefit.

>comic relief should be the main character
the state of nu-male soy boy anime fandom

>I'm a dumb faggot who's shit at driving and I get jealous of people who are better than me
>therefore all Anime protagonists should be bumbling idiots to keep me happy

It's not uncommon for Anime protagonists to be the kind of person kids are supposed to look up to.

Why should kids look up to a kid whose dad built him a fully built AE86 with a group a 20v 4a-ge and literally just gave it to him for free when he wasn't even 19 and he had already wrecked it once, instead of the kid who grinded while still studying in highschool to buy his car and build it up himself?

Everyone who's supposed to be portrayed as a loser or a dork looks like that.

Except Dagumi only won THREE (3) races by actually being faster instead of luck. One was against Keita, one was against the steven segal guy, one was against the cappucino guy. Otherwise Dagumi's career is just

>keksuke lost because his turbos failed and wasn't able to accelerate
>nakazato lost because he spun out
>shingo lost because he wanted to crash into dagumi
>mako lost because she spun out (again)
>turbo levin guy lost because muh mud
>ryo-so-gay lost because his tires lost grip (dagumi's tires are seemingly immune)
>mishfaiaringu shisutemu man lost because "lol your engine asplode but i didn't overtake you so i lost"
>MR2 guy lost because he spun out (seeing a pattern?)
>son of benzman lost because his suspension was fucked up
>ek9 guy lost because an animal popped in front of him
>miata guy 1 lost because dagumi literally hovered over the empty gutter and he wanted to do the gutter weight transfer and flipped
>kid rock guy with the lancer lost because muh oil spill
>god hand lost by puking his brains out
>MSR guy loses by spinning out again
>miata guy 2 lost because he broke his spoiler and spun out
>S15 guy lost because of the fog
>dagumi blows his engine again, nearly causes an accident, then throws his car in reverse while shinji
>wait for it
>spun out

Come on, the best part of Fourth Stage was seeing the 85 get an upgrade and watching it spank Iketani.

If at least you can't recognize Itsuki's superiority as a well developed and believable character over 'Lel quiet guy who is good at everything and doesn't even realise it. You can atleast realise that his Levin has far more character then Dagumi's Trueno.

Also
What he says is true. Tagumi rarely wins on his own merit, but because the people he race against either sucked, pushed themselves too far and spun out/crashed or environmental interference.

It's also worth noting that whenever Dagumi's skill is ever showcased, it was done only when he drove the 85. The 86 is probably fucking cursed if it causes so many accidents, and more importantly, if Bunta can control the car "hands free".

Speaking of, I'm sure Bunta's skill is greatly exaggerated, and considering how egotistical he was described in the manga, he's probably all talk and no show. Oh look, he beat dagumi in a turbo AWD vapereza that's smaller and lighter, and doesn't make peak power at 8000RPM. That means he's the best driver in the series!

>Why isn't Itsuki the protagonist
Because Shigeno is a dumbass and it was supposed to be based off of Keiichi Tsuchiya

How to be successful in life:
>have parents who aren't retards
>don't be retard yourself
Japan has not yet been indoctrinated into thinking "privilege" is a dirty concept.

You however seem to be a communist....

>go faster than someone
>they try to keep up
>push beyond their ability
>lose control
>"You didn't win that!"

Thanks Obama.....

>dislikes
>tofu
kek

>Communist
You use these words but you don't know what they mean.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with inheriting your dads car and being succesfull with it, I'm saying encouraging kids to rely on handouts is worse then encouraging kids to work their ass off to get what they want instead.

One of those is inherently capitalist, the other is leaning on socialism but not really there, I encourage you to maybe read a few books (At the minimum the dictionary definition of the words, but probably delve a bit deeper.) before you accuse people of being communists in the future.

The ideal is someone who gets wealth and knowledge passed down to him and also works hard.

Thinking privilege=bad and disadvantage=virtuous is a fairly communistic line of reasoning.

>Thinking privilege=bad and disadvantage=virtuous is a fairly communistic line of reasoning.
>the underdog story, possibly the oldest trope in storytelling, is communist propaganda
holy shit

Right. I never said privilege=bad though. I said when it comes trying to make a character to look up to, it makes more sense to look up to a character that worked to get to where they are, over someone who worked to keep what they had. Both of these are good characteristics, and neither is any more virtuous then the other, one is however a better life skill and certainly more admirable.

If we don't encourage children to build their own wealth/skills and instead just rely on inherited wealth and skills, then their will be no next wealth or skills for the next generation to inherit.

Not really, this comes from wrongly associating admirability with virtousness, the underdog story doesn't inherently portray the privilege of the overdog as a bad thing, just that they are privileged, and they don't portray the underdog as an inherently better person because he overcomes, just that he is an admirable person because he overcomes.

Though that said, a lot of communist propaganda films, are underdog stories. Because whilst not inherently communist propaganda, it is great at it.

Japan has a long entrenched class system, it makes sense to them to look up to privileged people who are also capable in their own right.

Even anime/mangas with "underdog" protagonists still (usually) have a higher class admirable main character in there somewhere.
The Takahashi brothers are a prime example of this, but I can think of countless other mangas with similar characters.

"nu-male soy boy anime fandom"
i don't even know why, but i kek'd harder than i should

If you overtake someone because you're faster, and then that person crashes because they pushed too hard trying to keep up with you, that means you're faster. I agree on the Civic and S2000 wins though, those were complete bullshit

I like iketani more

Kyoichi is the best character in Initial D, prove me wrong
>drives the best car in the series
>cocky, but backs it up with skill
>knows how to drive and doesn't rely purely on his car (unlike Nakazato)
>the only one in the series to actually win against Dagumi (and don't give me that "it wasn't a race", that was clearly some bullshit the writers made up so they could say Dagumi never lost)
>MISFIRING SHISTEM

>drives the best car in the series
>the only one in the series to actually win against Dagumi
*blocks your path*

Fair point, but Bunta is OP anyway, he could probably win against Takumi if he was driving the 85. Kyoichi is the only one to win fairly without having plot armor.

He doesn't really have plot armor.... he's just a seasoned racer everything is too easy for him - all these little kiddy races are beneath him.
Just watch some Best Motoring and you'll see he's not too far off Keiichi Tuschiya in terms of ability.

Not too sure Keiichi can light up a cigarette while doing the worlds longest drift though......

Initial D should have had several protagonists with different personalities, cars, and driving styles. It would have kept the show fresh and entertaining for longer, and would also give us a more complete view of the local racing scene. Itsuki would make a good candidate, if his comic relief side was turned down; Veeky Forumstists could relate to his experiences as a beginner carfag, and normies would find it more accessible as he begins the story new to everything and provides an excuse for everything to be explained.
Dagumi should also have been a one-trick pony who can rek absolutely anyone (except Bunta of course), but only downhill at Akina in his dad's car.

Iketani was okay in first stage, but the anime atleast never did anything with him afterwards they just had him there as filler.

Koichi was good, had plenty potential. Sadly we never saw any development or progression with him, and the way he was fit into the anime felt kind of awkward, Dagumi never really finished the first race (Still lost it.) and his race with him in third stage felt super fucking pointless and rushed.

That literally applies only to Nakazato. Everyone else was either in the lead or tied with him (as was the case with Kai the first time around). The second Kai race had Dagumi literally fucking teleport.

>some guy with a limited edition, rally equipped sub-3000 pound vapewagon with AWD and a powerful turbo making 350 horsepower beats a corolla with a racing engine that doesn't make shit for power until well past 8000RPM

whoah...

what does a carburator sound like?

>172 cm
LMAO MANLET

>relating to a fucking idiot
lol

Nakazato's shorter still. Just look at this fucking manlet. Nakazato, more like Nanozato.

woosh

>keksuke lost because his turbos failed and wasn't able to accelerate
I've seen this before; it's wrong. His comment on his "secondary turbine" was a desperate search for justification of why he was under performing. He lost because Dagumi had more course knowledge and better technique.

This is why I like Nobuyuki Fukumoto.
A lot of his manga is related. Most people just know Akagi and Kaiji but even with that, the differences between these two guys are tremendous, one lives to destroy the other just try to survive, post anime kaiji has a mahjong arc which makes comparisson interesting.

Moreover, Akagi himself was a side character of one of his older manga, iirc, named Ten. I wish initial d followed the same way. As you said with different arcs different people but all connected

Are we talking his first or second loss? Because the second loss was because Keisuke had the hp to his FD tweaked but it bit him in the ass as Tacomeat could reach top speed quicker

Nakazato is 174cm taller
He was 172cm in Japan, 20 years ago and he was 40.

I'm 171.5cm in West, and I'm in my 20s . Fuck my life

>Because the second loss was because Keisuke had the hp to his FD tweaked but it bit him in the ass as Tacomeat could reach top speed quicker
That's nonsense, it was clearly because Dagumi was a better driver and knew the course, he was way faster than Keisuke in the corners. Hell, pretty much everyone during the race mentioned how slow (in terms of power) the 86 is compared to the FD and how he has no chance

How tall are Ryosuke and Keisuke anyway? They seem to be the only non-manlets in the series

relatable characters are horrible when you hate yourself.

If anybody should have been the main character its Iketani

Yeah, then literally everubody got on Ryosuke's levl and realized thatthe race was kinda fucked

I like him, but he's not protagonist material

>literally cucks himself because he decided to help someguy that missed a bus stop, and manages to miss the meeting with the girl he loves a SECOND TIME AND NEVER CALLED

how hasn't Iketani just killed himself yet

I want to make an Initial D like anime or whatever where most of the cars are Twingos. Would anyone watch that?

Ok I don’t really like car shows or anime’s or whatever is initially d worth watching or just a meme?

...

make dagumi french and have a twingo and it would work
>doesn't like car shows
>or anime
>is on Veeky Forums

Keisuke is 5'11, and Ryosuke is 6'0
Ryosuke is the only thing close to a tall character in initial d. Fucking japs are midgets lol.

I’ll bet you think /pol/ is actually, unironically racist.

i bet mako smells of wet flour and a hint of bleach naturally, all the time

it's almost as if people spin out a lot when drifting

>literally just gave it to him for free
if you pay attention the engine was pay for with the money saved from tofu delivery
