They probably realized that it's nearly impossible to stay at close-range with most bosses, so that's why they added all those "melee" weapons. I don't think they even can do anything about since this is an issue with the game itself and how enemies deal damage, so staying at a range will always be superior. And expert mode didn't help at all either.

I think that's my problem with Terraria. You end just default to ranged weapons/spells to kill bosses. Same shit over and over.

Now that I think about it, a simple shield feature would make a world of difference. Block an enemy's (boring contact) damage, they get stunned, then hit them with weapon. Implementing attack animations and such might be difficult, but adding blocking or instant dodging would be a step in the right direction.

It also feels like they rebalanced all the bosses for people that have map wide multilayer platform arena's with heart spawners. King Slime's teleporting is really fucking annoying and I couldn't even hit EoC late into it's second phase because it was spending all of its time underground.

There, I fucking fixed it. Maybe it would be a good idea to bring this up with Redigit, not that I think they still care at this point.

My friend is enamored with the bard weapons from Thorium, so we're using that, will adding calamity make them useless? I want variety but if one mod as clearly superior items it takes away the fun

some of the thorium weaps are reasonably competitive with calamity shit during pre/early hardmode (depending how you play), but after that, there is no comparison. calamity shit dramatically outclasses everything.
