Don't know that feel.

...

Put a new piece of electric tape over it.

...

...

...

...

...

Start engine and watch it disappear

...

>mfw my car had a check engine light from the day I bought it
>mfw I'm not even phased anymore
>mfw deep down I know I shouldn't be ignoring it
>mfw I have no face

...

...

Only happened once, and I had a very good idea of what it was right away

youtube.com/watch?v=aF_bp_myMLA&feature=youtu.be

Because your frame rusted lel

My celica and Yaris both had CEL issues.

Why does everyone freak out at the CEL? 90% of the time it's something minor.

Its a company car. Not my problem/ piece of shit.

Why is that whale getting struck by lightning

>get reader
>read code
>same shit different day
>wipe code
>comes back 2 days later
>rinse and repeat for 3 months till it fucks off

>he has a vehicle made after 1995

You made this bed. Now you have to lie in it.

Pic didn't load, I'm a dumbass

>fell for Nips Reliability meme

This. Now if you get a battery light, you know you're in for a ride.

Stupid Question Time

...

...

>engine light comes on one day
>code for every cylinder misfiring
>car runs fine anyway
>light goes off a few days later
Well alright then

>check OBDII code
>random missfire
>check plugs all have good spark
>runs fine

>clean Vanos solenoid
>goes away

oh well...

...

For fuck's sake man. At least go get it read at an autoparts store. Most of the time it's something easy and/or cheap to fix that will result in something expensive and hard to be damaged. Take good care of your car, it will take care of you.

"Leaving it for another month won't hurt it" x100

Thanks user. I do strive to take the best care of my car that I can and I actually had checked what the error code is. Its P0420. I've been told that cats are ridiculously expensive so I shouldn't even bother. The thought of a faulty cat is bugging me though. And I can't just cut it out, I'll fail inspection and you can't bribe your way out either.

...

...

Bad cat is the worst case scenario. It could just be a dirty, an exhaust leak or a bad downstream O2 sensor.
Check your exhaust system for obvious holes or leaks. If you don't have any leaks, run some higher octane Chevron gas through it.
My friends had an old Subie Outback that was always throwing that code because they ran it on shitty 7-11 gas and the cat got clogged up.

>grandpa gives me an OBD scanner last night as a joke because Chrysler DD
>mfw start my car up this morning and engine light comes on

yiff in hell

>tfw vehicle made in 1996

Still a pretty comfy dashboard.

...

Okay, that makes sense. The previous owner said they would sometimes do the Italian tune up on it some with higher octane fuel. Next time I do the tune up I think I'm gonna use 100+ octane racing fuel because a nearby station sells it lol.

I know you're being silly, but always start with simple problems and work your way up.

Don't worry I got it

>mfw I have $40,000 worth of diagnostic equipment at my disposal

Misfire, stealership couldnt even fix it!

...

but no desire to fix anything

>CEL thinks I'm going to replace those oxygen sensors

>Put the pedal to the floor and redline that fucker
>light goes off
Gotta keep your bitch in check

Nah, just never had it happen to my own cars so far.

>wanting to have shit fuel economy and a rattling cadillac converter

>The thought of a faulty cat is bugging me though. And I can't just cut it out, I'll fail inspection and you can't bribe your way out either.
If it's only a visual inspection (and you've confirmed it's actually the cat, and not another cause like suggested), you could just punch the cat material out and leave the shell in place.

Is it a random cylinder misfire

Rotary?

>maf sensor is kill
>car accelerates slower then a misfiring yugo
>mfw replace it and its even faster then before

...

>check engine light comes on for misfires
>turns off eventually
>keep driving it around
>turns back on after a few hours
For what purpose?
I didn't feel any misfires on the trip where the light went back on.

It could be for any number of reasons besides misfires.

I had a camry from when I was 16 to when I was 19 and the CEL was on the whole time lol

The ECU is constantly monitoring your engine for any possible problems, so it's picking up an intermittent misfire that you probably haven't even noticed. Check your plugs and leads for tracking, make sure your coils are fine.

>tfw eternal PO442 code
just go away reeeee

...

Mk4 GTI?

B5 Passat.

Oh no one of my 5 sensors has brokens

Usually it's something simple

I’m so sorry for you

I've loved mine for as long as I've had it. It's comfy.

Is it something immediately threatening to the car if it's that difficult to notice?

>get this light today
>car gradually becomes harder to control
>gas pedal barely accelerates
>engine RPM drops below 100 when idling and sounds like it's stalling

I don't know shit about cars what in fuck is happening

Nah, but you can only expect it to get worse as time goes by.

>buy a code scanner
>even though I don't have a diagnostics port
D E V I L I S H

eh, it's been on for two years now
#justAlfaRomeothings

>mph
>Not made in germany
No shit its broken

Fuel pump/injectors maybe

>having a check engine light to begin with
goddamn electronics. I am sick of them. This is why I dont have a mobile phone

>its intermittent
>its the downstream O2 heater circuit
>will disappear for days at a time

It's a common issue on a lot of newer vehicles. It's caused by a bit of tungsten getting caught up in a vacuum tube which generates a bunch of heat causing it to glow. Eventually after heating and cooling a certain number of times it will break and no longer cause this issue.

...

...

>friend posts in the group chat about his CEL blinking on his shitbox
>my other friend says that blinking means it's a sensor
>mfw

I`m fine as long as I don`t go over 120km/h. lol overboost, etc

...

>mfw car has no CEL

tape over any flashing light

>Honda CR-V '05
>Timing chain code
>Check forum
>99% of the time it's a sensor issue
>Ignored for 2 years
>Now CC stopped working
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Just replace your secondary O2 sensor you nugget.

>it’s my fucking gas cap again
My car refuses to recognize the junkyard replacement that I got, despite it being from a car that was the same year, make, model, trim level, and even color. It always thinks my gas cap is off even though it is not.

Could be an evap pressure sensor issue then, or a leak elsewhere, e.g. from the filler neck or breather piping.

The computer can only work with what its sensors are telling it, it can't just think "oh hey this gas cap is shitty, get me a new one".

>it can't just think "oh hey this gas cap is shitty, get me a new one".
iPhones won't work with some replacement parts even if they're from the same type of phone, so wouldn't surprise me if car companies did the same.

Immediately clear the code and do a lease trade in lel

If it seals, it seals. If it doesn't, then you're running into problems. Junkyard fuel cap might also be leaking, too.

I can make the code go away if it use the cap from my other car if the same model.
The one that causes the code seals properly, but for whatever reason the sensor doesn’t like it. I ordered a used one on eBay for $20 so when that comes this week we will see if it’s just my junkyard cap.

>none of this would be an issue if some literal nigger didn’t steal my original gas cap

>Blames the negro
It's the kikes

>tfw no OBD

I just unplugged the light and all good to go

>it's just the fucking fuel cap again

my shitbox does this too

>tfw living in australia where the EVAP emissions codes are all disabled because we aren't cucked by Commifornia
