They have muscles and also use hydraulic pressure using hemolymph, their analog for blood, for motion. Some taste like lobster and anything tastes good when fried. They look great, what finish did you use?

a coat of dewaxed shellac (zinsser sealcoat) to act as sealer, followed by gel stain (minwax,) and then multiple coats of dewax shellac padded on until i was satisfied with how it looked.

the first coat of shellac was necessary because these guys are solid maple and maple is prone to blotching. i first tried to use danish oil and that came out horrible and just gave me additional work having to sand the large dresser again. gel stain is also good for blotch prone woods as it builds a film rather than just penetrating into the wood. most people would probably suggest polyurethane as a top coat especially since padding shellac is time consuming and shellac isn't as durable, but it's easier to fix scratches in shellac and it's also easier to strip than polyurethane if you wish to refinish the piece again.

if i was set up for spraying i'd probably use lacquer as the top coat though.
