Still underperforming. Nothings changed since the last thread

my 15 year old cayman s has more hp

How is it under performing for a 2700lb car with a 2.0L 4 cylinder? I performs great for what it has. Don't tell me you're one of those, "b-b-but it has no turbos" meme guys.

>a 3.4L 6 cylinder has more HP than a 2.0L 4 cylinder
thx captain obvious

its fun

Why won’t they drop the wrx turbo 2.5 box in? Wouldn’t that fix the car entirely

It doesn’t matter how light it is. It is slow and that has been the main criticism since the car was first released. If u live in an area without to many curves it is not very fun at all, and yes you will be passed by every one.

>the weight of the car doesn't matter when it comes to speed
dude WHAT

Because then no one would want the wrx. It would steal the entire market. Although if I were subaru, I would just do that. Impreza is fat shit ugly now. Sti is already dead anyway, just wrx now. Might as well kill wrx too.

There's an entire fucking button on the dashboard where the only purpose is to flip between yuro units and murrican units. Why.

It's hidden by the steering wheel so you might not have noticed, but next to it are two other buttons you can use to enter secret konami codes to get the rev light to come on at a different time or choose whether or not you want the gauges to swing back and forth when you first turn the car on. What makes yuro vs. murrican units so much of a priority?

Id consider buying this car if it had an inline 4 in it. Fuck that boxer shit.

His y/o Cayman probably cost less than what the toyobaru does new.

Probably so its easier to transfer the car from America to Canada?

This, car was held back by crap Subaru and it shows

But you could have the dealer set it or dance on the pedals for a while like if you want to really turn all of the traction control off. It's not something you need to change very often.

A lot less often than switching between the odometer and the trip odometer, or wondering what your average MPG is like instead of looking at the outside temperature for a change.

Not worth the price new, sort of attractive now that they are worth next to nothing on the used market.

Slap a turbo or supercharger on a used one and you might have something decent for the money.

Literally a used toyobaru cost more than a used mustang or 350z because muh subaru tax I don't know why people buy this shit. If you want slow fun get a miata

Bargain.

Are you trying to make out low depreciation (making it the cheapest sports car to ow over 5 years) is a bad thing?

It is a bad thing if you are a jelly poorfag looking to pick one up second hand.

>used car costs less than new car
THANKS CAPTAIN OBVIOUS

I don't know the market by you but these things are dirt cheap around me. 10-14k barely used.

More depreciation than a Focus.

Will it come with a 5 year unlimited mileage warranty?

>Better car is cheaper and faster to boot
Sometimes you need captain obvious to point it out to you since you couldn't figure it out on your own.

You would need a much higher bonnet line for that.

Does it still have the torque dip?
Did they upgrade the engine at all over the past years?

Any chance a new gen is in the works? I mean it's been out since 2012.

i came here to post exactly this. whatever incredibly marginal CoG advantage is afforded this car is offset by excess engine complexity and torque dips.

>marginal
2nd lowest CoG on the market after Ferrari 458.

They were going to trade the km vs. mph button for a torque dip removal button, but Justin Trudeau called that gay.

> Yes
> No
> Toyota just did a face lift, I wouldn't put your hopes on a major redesign any time soon.

you know nothing.
youtube.com/watch?v=3TQMzX_Gpvs

You are an idiot, you clearly don't understand crash regulations.

and compromised front suspension geometry due to lack of inboard space, thanks to flat memes.

>hurr durr, I'm a retard who don't understand that just because it physically fits doesn't make it legal for a car company to sell.

I thought this was about the height of the engine hood. Now its about crash regulations?

And Toyota won't tarbo it either because Supra.

While true, I wonder how much of a difference that would make in practice. The front end is pretty planted as-is and would not be very high on my list of things to complain about.

I'd be more interested in maybe getting the front wheels just a little further forward than whether it's macphereson or not.

I love low bonnet lines as much as any other guy, but I can't help but think this is not true. My 89 escort has a 1.6 inline 4 that sits transversely and the bonnet line is still below my ass height when I stand next to it.

and legalities?

Yet still faster than a more expensive Miata club despite Primacy HPs vs Potenza S001s.

it's slow as fuck

>89

i couldn't possibly see owning a sciotabaru fr-z86 in the long-term without doing a considerable amount of customization, and a suspension upgrade would be high on my list of priorities, and a straight or v engine would allow far more room for experiments. i'm not shitting on the car itself as is, but it's not the enthusiast's ideal that people make it out to be. it does need some afterthought help.

>paying full price for cars
it's like you hate yourself or something.

Can't argue with that. It manages to be a great out-of-the-box DD racekar, but it's so easy to nitpick about that you wonder whether they they achieved victory by making something so great everybody wants it to be better, or something lousy because there's so much to complain about.

I would absolutely love one of these. Its not fast but faster than anything I've ever driven (maybe evenly matched with my shitbox fox body mustang though). I also love how they look.

I couldn't give a shit about the power as long as its fun to drive.

Maybe some people don't want a car with 100,000+ miles on an engine. Maybe some people don't want a 6 cylinder. Ever think of that, idiot?

Now that they're getting cheap and common on the used market, it's easier than ever to try one out. Lots of people decide they just need something better in one way or another but if you can overlook whatever various shortcomings irk you, the bottom line is that it's just fun to scoot around in.

So the alternative is BRZ? We are car enthusiasts here not masochists.

Another option is a BRZ, not the alternative. If you want some grandpa car with no warranty and miles out the ass, by all means get it. Just don't compare an old car with a totally different engine to a new one. It's apples and oranges.

>Actually wanting a shitty torque dipping flat four over glorious flat 6

Who is the idiot again?

My reason for not getting one right now is because I couldn't possibly afford it. Even paying almost $5k for my 2004 Toyota Matrix was a huge blow to my savings. Sucks being poor.

Also my mom would probably kill me if I bought another sports car :^)

Eh, at least you're thinking ahead. I picked one up because I forgotten that nowadays I can afford something like this just because it seems like it might be fun. Maybe there'll be something even better when you can do that, too.

>Because then no one would want the wrx. It would steal the entire market

Am I the only one that thinks this argument is fucking retarded?

WRX is a sedan with awd, the majority of WRX buyers (people who live where it snows or want a practical fun sedan) aren't going to suddenly decide they want a powerful rwd coupe instead.

youtube.com/watch?v=lgUuRVkgJmg

Auto, sperge harder

No, it is a dumb argument.

Only a few people actually believe that, and when you ask them what car they drive it's always the BRZ. It's as if they have to convince themselves they bought a decent car.

Kind of like these daily shit post threads.

>automatic toyota 86 = manual subaru brz
DUDE WHAT

I think it'd be perfect with a 2.5L H4 and leaned a tiny bit more toward torque than peak power. 230hp, 190lb-ft, something like that.

Wow, this is embarrassing. I can't even imagine being a BRZ owner knowing that this is reality for them daily.

No, it's a sketchy argument. The two definitely compete, but lots of people are like
>well I just want RWD
or
>well I just need a real back seat

You wouldn't even have to make the toyobaru as fast as an sti to make everybody happy and just frickin sell more cars.

You know there is still a waiting list for them right?

Nope, just watching the used market fall as I hoped it would for the good of the car world in general.

My opinion: if they want to not keep up with demand to ensure that they recoup the costs of taking a risk on a brand new car that's fine. But half a decade later it's time to start coming out with real model line upgrades if they want to keep a good thing going.

They don't make a performance 2.5 right now, but if they gave the upcoming 2.4 the N/A treatment it would probably hit at least those figures.

Subaru BRZ's automatic is a CVT, so theoretically is should be quicker off the line.

The NC ran fora full decade with no real changes

>theoretically is should be quicker off the line
it really isn't though

>theoretically

And objectively more boring to drive.

Yea in theory but it doesn't probably due to mechanical efficiency and poor programing of the CVT

It's only 1.3 seconds slower to 60 than the manual. That 20% is nothing.

thats actually pretty huge

Yeah, I mean it's up to them how they want to play it. I just don't see why they wouldn't want to sell more cars rather than have people buy them and then drop them, possibly jumping over to some other make willing to take advantage of an opportunity to fill the void.

How much more are people willing to pay to supercharge a toyobaru or find a cayman or whatever else? Well, maybe those people would pay more to buy an sti toyobaru instead.

>probably due to mechanical efficiency and poor programing of the CVT
or the engine being shit and under powered.
its a fucking sports car for fucks sake!

they were comparing the manual to the CVT. In theory the CVT should be faster because you can always be at peak HP/torque which means faster acceleration but its not.

>Subaru BRZ's automatic is a CVT
What the fuck are you even talking about bro

That's why whenever people want to try and suggest the car is slow they use the auto.

So we are just going to pretend that the brz has a cvt now or what?

And ironically cost less than that nip box

Love the look, love the color, love the community behind this platform of car, seems like most people who buy this or the gt86 have done some sort of mod, no matter how small. But personally I think the price point is a bit steep for what you get. Here in burgerland they start at around $25k, but you can get a new 370z for around $30k.

Obviously that's still 25% more, but I feel like the extra 100ish hp is worth it, especially as I don't go on mountain roads with any frequency, mostly just highway driving.

It never ceases to amaze me how little effort OP needs to bait all you dumbasses.

>cars that are over 10 years old most likely have a value lower than that of brand new cars
AND IN OTHER NEWS, THE SUN RISES IN THE EAST AND SETS IN THE WEST! More at 11.

Would it be dumb to take the fake vent on the fender and make it a real one?

It wouldn't accomplish anything. There's nothing to vent. The an upgraded oil cooler+radiator is all you'd need if you track the car stock to completely prevent overheating on track.

What's that sound? The ricking of a time bomb when driving a car out of warranty.

How much does it take to overheat the thing anyway? It really throws a lot of the engine bay after just casual driving, not that this says anything about cooling capacity. And while the stock brakes feel great for the local back road, it makes you wonder how much harder and longer you could push them before you remember that they're just stock brakes.

I can't wait until 11 when you go into detail about how the better car is surprisingly a better value too!

Veeky Forums news network is always the best.

> Muh warranty
Literally every BRZ owner tunes it to get rid of that stupid torque dip and blows away that warranty you keep trying to move the goal post to.

If you reflash to stock there are no traces

apparently

I thought it had a traditional slushbox from toyota but never really paid that much attention.

I got mine almost ready to go out of warranty. If it went that long without something stupid going wrong that should have been fixed for free then I don't really care. The reliability reputation being kept up and seeing in person that it's built pretty damn solid as far as I can tell matter more when comparing it to what I might expect from older, higher-mileage alternatives.

My sweet, summer child.

Subaru has been dealing with idiots throwing a Cobb tuner onto their cars and blowing the engine for the greater part of a decade now.

The first thing they would see is ignition count cycle at some hilariously low number and then go from there.

I've heard tracking it can potentially overheat it a little, but Toyota has run mostly stock 86's with upgraded brake cooling at the nurburgring and other races with no issues so it's mixed. Street driving will never get close but if you're going hard at a track in Arizona in the middle of summer than it will be more likely.

Regarding brakes, they are really not great at all. Upgraded lines, good fluid, better pads, and a master cylinder brace will help a lot before getting into something like a big brake kit or added cooling.

Except I had my fuel pump replaced with a tune, you're obviously here to shitpost by the looks of it.

Hmm. Maybe my previous owner put nice pads in or something. Haven't had a need to really get in there yet and notice anything that doen't seem stock yet.

While I would normally shit post about how a "reliable" fuel pump going out under warranty is somehow ok, the fact that you you are completely oblivious to the huge repair bill you may face when that engine of yours pops is way more satisfying.

Wasn't defective or giving problems just made cricket sounds, judging by how little you know talking about "cobb tuners" which don't exist for the 86 platform you obviously don't know what you're talking about.

I mean they're great for the size of the car for street driving, but track wise they will overheat within a couple laps. Especially the rears, they're tiny

Well done. Why the fuck would that matter

No but it comes with a 3year bumper to bumper warranty
