BMW enthusiasts in open revolt over new AWD, auto only M5

The BMW CCA has long been a reliable shill for BMW Co. but the new AWD, auto only M5 was the last straw. This is the January cover of BMW CCA's official member magazine.

It may not seem that radical but Roundel is usually 100% restated BMW marketing speak, at least when it comes to upcoming and newly released cars. They are ripping into the new M5, calling it a concession to posers who can't handle RWD and an admission that they can't compete with Mercedes. BMW USA demanded that the article and the headline be pulled but CCA stuck to their guns. This may result in CCA losing media privileges at BMW events and possibly losing the right to use BMW trademarks altogether.

There's already talk of forming a breakaway "outlaw" club that only allows manual or SMG, RWD, pre-2016 bimmers.

fucking good
bmw doesn't give a shit anymore, why should cca?

No reason for the M5 now the E63 is better in everyway since BMW has given up on manual.

>AWD
One switch makes it RWD.
>Auto
No one bought a manual F10 M5.

"Outlaw Club", Christ what a bunch of babies. I was considering joining mostly for the dealership discounts, even though the price was steep.

>price was steep
I'm not going to debate your other points but isn't a membership like $50?

Uh don't you know you can disable the awd and make the m5 rwd by pushing a button also it needs the awd just like c63s need awd too
Bunch of salty fags

Huh, you're right. I remember seeing it for $100/year months ago. Thanks for the correction.

Doesn't the M5 have them flappy paddle thingies going on anyway?

BMW CCA should be doing more useful things like asking BMW to bring the M140i hatch to the U.S.
M5 is faster though.

at first i hated the 5 series/m5 design but now i'm growing to love it, so muscular and tastefully aggressive, not over the top

literal faggotry

i bet you love the LC500 design

Why do niche automakers decide they need to compete with Toyota?

Toyota already made the sacrifice to become a lifeless behemoth so that nobody else has to. Let them be the martyrs while everyone else makes fun to drive vehicles.

It's like Michael Jordan playing baseball for his own vanity.

I don't like the big grill Lexus has going on, but atleast it is an inorganic look. Lusting after a car because it is masculine or aggressive is faggotry, there is no way around this.

Who the fuck even cares? BMW CCA doesn't provide anything worth a shit and their member rates peaked in the mid 2000s. All they have to do is not buy it and vote with their wallets like adults but instead they bitch like babies. I imagine their whining will have 0.00% effect on bottom line sales of the new M5.

Purists are such retards.

>SIEGFEST 2017

kek

>M5 is faster though
It fucking should be it's new. I'd still have a E63 if you can't get a manual in a M5.

>he would choose the M5 knockoff over the real thing

nesn.com/2017/12/bmw-knows-2018-m5-cant-beat-alfa-romeo-giulias-nurburgring-record/

Just wait for the Alfa Romeo "5 Series competitor" for the proper car.

they couldnt buy one anyway, who cares.

it will be just another wannabe M5

The Bmw 5 Series has always been an Alfa Romeo wannabe, sorry.

>back to the origins

>Alfetta release date: 1972
>5 series release date: 1972
Nice try pasta nigger
Btw pic related was released in 1962

Yeah, fun fact that the 1972 Alfetta looked like this when Bmw was different and then straight copied the look of the Alfetta.

Also the Alfetta mechanically was better than the 5 series, was lighter, had the transaxle, had a less big engine with more power and costed less.

Try again Bmw nigger.

>5th gear: optional
>Adjustable steering wheel: optional

Kek, some things never change.

So BMW built a whole new car in a few months?
Hahahaha delusional alfa shill get lost.
Btw 5 series was a proper luxury tourer while the alfetta was a shitbox, see M535i.

Which is why Alfettas are so much more readily available than E12s

who copied who again?

Mercedes made the e class in 1931. BMW made the 5 series in 1962. BMW is always behind.

BMW spies infiltrated alfa romeo factory design headquarters and stole the designs
BMW made the M5 in 1981
Benz introduced the first AMG E class in 1996

>in 1981
ok it wasn't a M5 but a M535i aka the M5 predecessor

Idk, top m8, you tell me.

...

I still would an E63s do BMW's have autistic lighting that you can change to any color in the interior?

Don't post porn user

>1968
02 series was released in 1966
yup they do

I read the article. It was a confused one. They would both hate on the car and at hte same time say wow so great though even though we (bmw cca enthusiasts) have zero interest in it.

Its not like Roundel readers weren't going to think the same thing as the author anyway.

I also agree with on the AWD. I'm not about to go attempting to drive RWD in a 700 hp $100,000 machine.

But I also have almost zero interest in buying one realistically.

If the M8 does indeed become a 2 door version of this car though there will be trouble.

We ALL know BMW didn't develop a double clutch for this car because it didnt want to spend money developing it. The ZF8 is a good transmission but its still slower than the DCT and desu I'd prefer the SMG over it.

The ZF6 in my current car is pretty good but enraging on a track and the ZF8 isn't that much better.

Atlaest the SMG was good at high rev shifting

The people who actually buy brand new BMWs won't give a shit about some fan magazine.

literally who cares. manual is fucking trash. it's objectively slower than automatic

I feel like purists don't want cars or technology to progress. They are the women of the auto industry. All muh feelings, and muh manuel etc.

>BMW CCA should be doing more useful things like asking BMW to bring the M140i hatch to the U.S.

THIS.

>t.

Could anyone provide scans of the article please? Or is there an online version? I couldn't find one.

I thought the point of the M5 was that it's a full size car that's still fun to drive. Not getting to blast through the gears yourself is less fun. So what if it has 700 horsepower? I'm not buying it to drag race.

>I'm not buying it to drag race.
but the actual m5/e63/rs7 owners do. that's why bmw built it like this.

Since when have M5s been popular drag machines? That's retarded, they were always supposedly amazing on full tracks.

slapping some electronic tech into the car isn't progress.

Its a lack of progress being hidden behind shallow gimmiks to mask its stagnation.

Have you ever been to a drag strip in your life?

Motorcycle "purists" are even worse.

>traditionalists are the women
lmao nice

I have no issues with this...simular scenario between this and gamergate is eary desu...

Have you ever daily driven a powerful RWD car?

It's auto only because they only sold 150 stick previous gen M5s.

So I'll take that as a "No user, I've never been to a drag strip"

you wouldn't believe me if I said yes anyway

I don't know anymore whether all pro bmw shilling is ironic or serious at this point

Mid size super sedan owners do stoplight racing.
RWD with 600-700hp is hard to launch, as proven with the previous gen M5 where it got BTFO by the competing Audi RS7 from a dig.
Plus it was hard to handle such hp on poor weather conditions.
AWD is basically a must have for such cars hence the Panamera, Audis, Benzs all have it.

>Mid size super sedan owners do stoplight racing.

You mispelled "niggers".

niggers cant afford $150k sedans

>implying

Who's talking about buying cars?

This is all Tesla's fault

The components needed for the AWD still add weight

AWD is literally better than RWD in every single way aside from added weight and you can't do soyracer drifts

I don't get why people are mad they're making a comfortable car more comfortable.

yeah but the new awd m5 is lighter than the previous gen
new m5 weighs pretty much the same as old e39 m5 despite all the added safety, luxuries and tech, awd system, automatic gearbox

What happened to BMW making great drivers sedans? Pretty sure any “enthusiast” will take any of the old M5s over the new Mercedes or post 2013 M5s. I don’t get it. Why does the auto industry play into the bench racing game instead of making fun cars to drive. I mean for fucks sake, BMW can’t even replicate the E34 or 9 M5.

no one can replicate the e39 m5. not even bmw.
Chevy came close with the SS, but did not beat it.
it's literally the peak of super saloons

the charger hellcat is barely slower than the rs7

e34 > e39 > e28 > f10 > f90 > Dog shit > e60

honestly, i think e34 and e39 should be swapped
it's extremely close though

Such a shame they stuck that v10 in the worst m5.

nah e60 is amazing if you ignore the upkeep costs.

They’re more like the conservative boomers they despise so much desu

i want to hate the E60, but that engine is this close to being godlike

most of us here would never be able to afford one. why should any of us give a shit

Rumor mill says Holden hired the guys who setup the E39.

They did for the zeta platform

Like the guilia was a wanna be 3-series?

new giulia quadrifoglio is the most blatant m3 knockoff yet

Forget the M5 and buy this new god machine

>400 whp
Hahahahahahaha

We get discounted rates on track days, and discounted aaa membership.

>Lusting after a car because it is masculine or aggressive is faggotry, there is no way around this.

Fuck I didn't know that and signed up for triple a without the discount can I fix it?

W O W
O
W

Never knew the competition was actually so close.

Fucking Lexus.
Some day was near the stealership, went to sit in the IS, this thing is fucking small, tiny, i cant fit, i cant even dream about it now.

that comparison is about 45 year old cars user

alfa romeo made some nice cars with nice style, too bad they went fwd but i'd still like to own one

Lusting over masculine features is gay, why do you deny this?

Post your Twingo
Otherwise you're gay

Let's be honest, BMW has lost it's mojo longo ago.

Just of the top of my head, they have synthetic engine sounds, the i8 has a front hood that is not supposed to be opened by the owners (only by the dealership people, way to go BMW), a pointless divide of the coupe 3 series into the totally different 4 series and, of course, the new FWD 1 series.

They have lost it, simple as that.

i wouldnt say lost it. But they have gone from a cut above which they used to be down to the level of normal auto manufacturers

>Please note: Roadside Assistance is no longer an option when joining or renewing your membership. Road America Motor Club will continue to provide service to members who had joined or renewed and included roadside assistance before we discontinued the option.

tl;dr new members can eat shit. enjoy your $50/yr decal

what kind of cgi paint is that? it looks like a layer of liquid metal, it's amazing.

PS there's nothing anywhere on their site that says anything about discounts at track days. The discounts are mostly just from shit retailers that sell detailing products or fucking rental cars. It reads like some jewish boomer wishlist. Which track gave you how much discount?

This. BMW is just blindly following trends that every other automakers are doing. At the very least, they're still offering manual transmissions on everything from a base model 2 to the M6, whereas no Giulia is being sold in the US with a manual.

Yup funny how alfa shills constantly talk about ''muh soul and muh passhun'' while alfa doesn't even offer manual gearboxes in the U.S, even their lightweight sports car 4C comes auto only lmfao.

I daily a spark EV, that's like the gook twingo. Old image, but it's all I have on this trip right now.

>i daily a spark EV
gay detected

torque is fun
