Mum said she wants to put a new engine in the tired old N13. She's got 300k kms on the clock of the old 1.6 GM for the Australian market.

What is the most sensible replacement?

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Veeky Forums are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You can buy a much better car for the price of a new engine so why bother

Get out of here commie chinese.

Becuase it is a good car and she doesnt like new piece of shit tin can cars with all the electrics that break down every 5 minutes. Also, this one has a new radiator just put in it as I have well documented with my N13 update threads.

>she doesnt like new piece of shit tin can cars
your mother is fucking based

Sensible? Another engine of the same type.

What's more fun? If the engine bay is the same size (or bigger) then an ls1 swap is possible. A massive headache but the payoff is a sub 2 ton suicidal fun machine.

>DUDE LA SWAP LMAO
It's a fucking commuter car, the time and effort of making that work, if it would even fit, is beyond stupid.
If she wants to hang onto it, have the current engine rebuilt. They'll look at the crank journal bearings, get new ones that fit properly, hone the cylinders, see about the pistons, and replace the valve springs and all the seals.

Of course it's beyond stupid. Thats the point.

I only suggested an LS1 swap because me and my father are doing that to his Geo Metro.

It always makes the most sense to replace an engine with exactly what came out of the car. If you don't mind a little bit of fiddling with stuff, you can swap in variants within the same family. (13b MSP to 13b REW, Ford Duratec 2.5 to Ford Duratec 3.0, 2JZ GE to 2JZ GTE, etc) Trying to do something that was never meant to go in the car is going to result in tons and tons of custom work.

You could probably cram a veyron engine in there if you tore the car right down to the frame and built a tube body from there up. On the other end of things, to swap in a smaller, more economical engine wouldn't require much serious custom work besides a transmission adapter plate and motor mounts on that old of a car. There'd still be stuff like fuel hookups, vacuum lines, front accessories, and possibly engine management if you put a newer engine in. As long as the space allows it, it would be feasible for a home gamer.

For just getting the car back to a more reliable condition, I'd highly suggest to just buy or rebuild the engine that it came with from the factory, or if you insist on changing it up get a better engine from a higher trim level, if there were different options.

Alloytec 3.6

put an engine out of a Freight-liner truck it will give you bucket loads of power and pumps out plenty talk...

Sensible option:
>GM 1.8L out of another N13. It has MPFI and much more power, bolts straight in.

Fun option:
>SR20DE out of an NX2000 / SSS Pulsar

>for the Australian market.

Just rebuild the same engine or same type. No engineers certificates needed that way.

a new mazda or honda engine mite be good, you remove everything including gearbox and universal joints with suspension and replace the whole thing at once

4A-GZE out of a AE101 Levin, better yet just get her a Levin she'll like it more

Make sure to check the underside of the car to make sure there are no camshaft leaks

Buick 3.8

the sound of powwaaaaarrrr

fuck you all your comments are shit here so piss off elsewhere.

twincam excel engine
drop in swap

This

Putting a zetec in my mk1 escort and the hoops you jump through will not be worth it on tripfag's shitbox
