That time that you did something amazing to get it going again

That time that you did something amazing to get it going again.

acute

>that time you did something stupid and it didn't get going again

>that time you did something stupid and it worked

>tfw you are the only guy who could get your vehicle started and keep it going

>that time you got it all back together and discovered a part you left out

>that time you didn't do anything and it still shat itself

Fuuuuug

I did this once. I can't remember exactly what it was I left out but it took me half a fucking hour to dig back in and another half an hour to fill the frigging hole. I have a feeling that it was a spacer for a mechanical fuel pump that sits underneath the intake. If I didn't instal it it would have bent the rod or damage the pump cam. Which meant pulling the block. So I was lucky.

>that time you didn't do anything and let it sit there for months before finally selling it at scrap value

i, too, have to turn off my A/C to keep it from lugging when idle

That time while driving along in traffic, and 1977 Thunderbird engine suddenly goes dead.

The car has enough inertia that I am able to steer it around a corner and into an on-street parking spot. Much thanking of heavens and angels. Then a fairly long walk to an auto parts store.

There at the counter the guy immediately says "It's your module."
Need to decide whether to pretend I know just what he's talking about or be honest. Choose authenticity and say "What's that?"

Buy $22- something metal part with plastic in it. Walk back to car, swap out part screwed into top of wheelwell - car starts perfectly and drives fine for years after.

LELZ - Thanks guys!!

Jump starts were about the most amazing thing I've done. Other than making sure that the radio, electronic fan, and lights weren't on at the same time.

That time you just said "fuck it" and dragged it to a dealer and used it as a down payment for a new car.

What was the module?

Haha, glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't know!

Just looked it up and found this picture. It looked just like this.

>that time you did something amazing but it turned out the problem was somewhere else.

I did this with a starter. Pain in the fucking ass to remove and put the new one in, just to realize that it was fine, and just the plastic clip holding the wire on broke off.

Oh Yeah...

That time I've done all these, but especially that!!

>that time you blew up your engine mid ride and then your buddy fractures his foot doing a wheelie a minute after.

>16 y/o "drifting" shitty miata after high school
>curb it hard
>upper and lower control arm, shocks springs, wheel, all demolished
>call AAA, shop says car is totalled
>insurance says car is totaled, offer $2,000
>FUCK THAT
>"b-b-b-but user you have never fixed a car before"
>parents want me to buy a safer car
>FUCK THAT
>Buy tein flex off craigslist
>Buy a new set enkei wheels
>buy control arms off ebay
>car rolls out my garage slammed looking baller
>family friends think i am genius
>legend at school
>suddenly I'm a "car guy"

I'm kinda glad that happened because I learned I could fix almost anything. It was so hard disassembling the mangled suspension parts at 16 with no experience. But I powered through and now my cars never go the shop (except for mounting tires and aliments, idk how to do that shit)

I've been there before bro ex girl decided to rape the right control arms on my old mazda 6 hitting a brick sign it was awful

Rey is my copilot.

>car suddenly starts overheating
>check cooling liquid, it's low
>fill it up, resume driving
>it overheats again
>check, low level
>worry about it for few minutes
>check the rubber wires, spot a cut
>unplug, chop off damaged part of the wire, plug it back, it fits

desu not me but my dad, he's a fucking genious

>Rubber wires

What?

>need to go to work at auto parts store at 17
>turn key, no click, no lights dim, radio still works
>battery was tested the week prior and has no issues
>remember bum starts for manual cars, and dead spots on starter motor but mine is auto
>fuck it, put it in neutral, Fred Flintstone the car forward 2 feet and slam it back into park
>turn key and engine starts like an Olympic sprinter

I had to do this a few more times until my paycheck came in and I explained what process to my auto shop teacher and colleagues at work and one believed it was possible until seeing me do it.

>Rubber wires
Surely you mean tubes?

car seems fucked after sitting over winter.
>would crank but engine sometimes wouldn't start
>if it did the idle was choppy as fuck
>if i pressed the pedal down the idle would drop
>make a new negative cable for the battery for around £10
>runs like new

yep something like this
pic related, it's the chopped off part

>parking pawl is kill

>and slam it back into park

Holy shit you're thick
They're called hoses, and yours was cracked and leaking.
You couldn't figure out that everytime you filled the coolant it leaked out? Where did you think it was going you thick fuck?

>thick fuck
lol no , my bmi is 17.5, it's just the camera
also, the coolant hose in that car is pretty thin, 14mm diameter

>couldn't figure out that everytime you filled the coolant it leaked out
we figured the leaking spot after losing coolant the second time

hears scraping from somewhere
puts the handbrake down
no more scraping

>change fuel pump
>no fuel
>left the dust cap on the exit spout

what the fuck
what does this do

>rubber wires
wat

that time the track rod arm broke off and had to weld it back on

>find some neat rx7 wheels with winter tires
>make sure diameter, width, bolt pattern all match up
>pick them up, snow storm tonight
o heck yea
>remove old wheels, bring new one up
>isn't sitting right on the hub
>forgot to check center bore
>fucking .5mm too small
i'm too afraid to find out how much machining them will cost

machining? unless the lug holes are wollered the center cap is useless

>car dont start
>hit battery terminals with designated battery terminal hammer
>it starts

i need the center bore to be larger because the rim won't sit square on the hub otherwise

>literally dailying one of only 27 USDM AE86es still left on the road

Break out a file boy!

>wollered
>wollered definition when a woman has been rammed so many times it's like f-cking a mayonnaise jar. that b-tch's sn-tch has been wollered out
lolwut

>that time when depression came out of no where, and without realizing it you left your car you used to love sitting in the driveway for 4 years letting every beautiful piece of metal turn brown and sullen like the rest of the world

Interestingly enough I had a firebird ignition control module do the same thing. But it didn't just die once like that it would shut off all the time at higher rpm under load because the module couldn't keep up spark as it was dying then it finally died all the way and didn't even crank anymore. Guess "bird" cars have bad modules

Breaks your transmission in an auto lol wtf that's a manual only trick

I'd say we've got about 2-3k GTSs left and several tens of thousands of SR5 bodies that can be used to swap 16v or 20v in. Why wouldn't you daily it? Shit's completely viable.

>94 accord won't start back up after driving for awhile
>kick the fuel relay under the dash
>starts back up

Who dis gooby looking bish
