I'm still considering doing it. If I get it for like $7k, I can afford plenty of work on it.

rx8 r3. Could easily afford one but all the ones around me are nearing 100k kms and I'd be too autistic to not get a rebuild even if it had good compression, aside from that mileage isnt great

forgot pic

hey OP you are a nigger but for me it's pic related

I'd post a W140 but they're not bad enough

fuck off reddit

I personally want a Spirit R but it's the price holding me back. I already own an 05 rx8.

i love /pol/

I've got a CL500 and if I couldn't do my own maintenance I would probably be bankrupt now. My advice is to get the Mercedes workshop manuals off Ebay and a decent scan too - I bought a second-hand Autel DS708 and it paid for itself in a couple of months. I still live in fear of the suspension shitting the bed though.

same here

Eventually I'll buy one and find out firsthand just how much of a nightmare it can be.

I have a CL500 too and doing your own maintenance definitely pays off.
No need to get manuals off ebay, you can just download WIS/EPC from rutracker (search for ewa net).
The suspension is not as bad as people act, you can rebuild the valve blocks. Just flush the fluid regularly.
For diagnosis, I got a Chinese star diagnosis clone with a laptop that included all the software mentioned above plus more for a total of $600 shipped. Pretty good deal.

>I'd post a W140 but they're not bad enough
w140 is tank from what ive seen compared to modern sissy benzes

are they worse or better than W126?

Worse

as in less reliable?

Yes, they made the electrical system for the most MY with bio materials and they are starting to degrade, but as long as the engines are straight six and not v6, it is still fine.

The W220 is the dirt-cheap (secondhand) one with all the maintenance issues, from what I hear

I know a guy who owns one. Maintanence hasn’t been too rough on him so far, although to be fair he hasn’t had it for much longer than a year yet. It is a fantastic ride so good luck if you do decide to get one.

Foxbody, sure they go for about 10-15k but still rather reasonable to be able to afford

Nightmare since american...

There are many chink parts available now that are both cheaper and higher in quality then OEM Mercedes.

Get Cadillac's subscription service. That car is an option.
No need to worry about maintaining it.
Unlimited millage.
If you just want to try it for one or two months, you can, no need to worry about commitment beyond 30 day periods.

...

...

Got a 1st gen Freelander, which is supposed to be the least reliable out of them all, no issues in 3 years, only maintenance and a few electrical bugs.

Wish you the best of luck, Discoveries are incredibly good looking.

...

One of these. I love the idea of an incredible engine like that in an ordinary looking estate car, or even saloon, but they are the very definition of financial suicide. I could buy one, but there is no way I could afford to run and maintain it.

I wonder what one of these with a turbo Atlas 4200 would be like.
I think it could chew the shit out a couple vettes.
I saw a few of these go for 2500/5k with the 2.3 pinto.
If you're in Europe you could very easily swap it for a 2.0 DOHC or even build it for power, while it stays cheap to insure and run.

the VR4s with pop-ups is sexy, but its an expensive deathtrap

>Look mom this meany said nigger on my car board so I told him to go back to /pol/. Give me tendies now pls, mom!

it'a my dream to build a foxbody with a 4.0 Turbo Barra
t.eurofag

People constantly shit on Range Rovers but the Classics before P38 gen can't be that bad.

Though the contrast is huge, early ones were tractors and final 95 models were loaded with electronics. And because they look the same to the untrained eye people may have had big problems with the 90s ones but have fond memories of the early more barebone production.

...

there is absolutely no good reason for wanting to own that northstar piece of trash

...

I would need a lift if I needed to remove the engine/transmission because it can only be dropped from underneath the car. And there's no way I'd pay a shop to do it because they'd overcharge me just because it's a Porsche.

Still though, I plan on buying one after I buy a house. I could buy one right now if I sold my Corvette, but a house comes first.

>$30k after depreciation
>most have less than 40k miles

944
So I bought an E30 instead

I can think of one: LS Swap. Do what GM should have done in the first place.

Mechanical AWD and an engine that takes more boost like a fucking champ. Can be had for like 7 grand.

But lol front control arms and turbos stuffed way at the back of the engine bay, not to mention typical early 2000s Audi electronics that always fucking die. It'd be a fucking disaster, but I want one anyway.

prices on these are starting to bottom out i think

i'm still going to buy it because a real man needs to own a v12 at least once in his life

I want a Scorpion, but i will NEVER EVER find one. NEVER!!!!!!!

Not even close desu

Pic related, with the V12.

...

They're rare as shit

And if I find one, it'll probably be loaded with cancer

And I'll never get it running 100%

the absolute state of Veeky Forums

/pol/ is the best board of this website, followed by Veeky Forums then perhaps /g/.
b and anime and pornography ones are for weirdos and shouldn't exist. Video game discussions are for man children.

I really like the r30 skyline. I almost dumped my entire house downpayment into one. Then their prices started going up and I actually bought a house.
Some days. I honestly. I honestly get really sad I cant own one.

It feels like the 2 door boxy i4 turbo skyline that was forgotten by the world. Will never find love with me. Its like the gayest thing ever. But damn. I actually do get teary eyed.

Absolutely infatuated with the r31 and r30 especially.

I've barely worked on cars, but would love to start. In the age of Youtube, I can watch someone replace something that sounds scary like a supercharger bearing and realize it's definitely something I can handle.

Sadly, I don't have a ton of free time right now, so it may not be a great idea. Thanks for the advice though.

>/pol/ is the best board of this website

i personally really like how they look

never even seen one for sale in australia

The fuck is that, a Mazda-made R32? It's actually awesome.

eunos cosmo
mazda-made, rotary-engined luxury
my favorite car of all time

A decent 2002 skyline r34 v spec II. Honesly I'd be too scared to drive it in fear of even scratching the paint and let alone maintaince costs.

The 1st gens are garbage.

are you retarded?

E39 M5

Yes, an absolute electrical nightmare. A shame, really.

damn, that wasted digits

They’re not but I’m getting ready to buy one

They’re fucking incredible and a bolt on supercharger will take you to and beyond 500whp

Normalfag boards were a mistake.

I almost bought one instead of a BRZ, but I didn't want to DD it with all of the possible issues. I still want one someday though.

1st intelligent reply ive seen in weeks

Best thing you can do to an fd is a single turbo swap and upgraded radiator and oil coolers.

Getting rid of the twins eliminates alot of headaches and miles of vaccum hoses. Also cuts the engine bay heat down a ton.

that's only available in a handful of shithole cities though

4 door continental.

Don't have the space for a restoration project, mint condition ones cost as much as a shitty house. maybe in a few years.

>anime and pornography ones are for weirdos

You're on Veeky Forums, retard.

I want a 74 rolls royce so bad but i jist know itd be a bitch to find even basic parts

Attached: 300zx.jpg (736x435, 80K)

This.

Airmatic is easy peasy. Leaks in 2 main places: aforementioned valve block and the tops of the struts. Valve blocks can be rebuilt, and top of struts is normally a strut replacement...which is costly for the parts, but take about 15 minutes to install each.

As for EPC...don’t use the Russian one that’s free. Just pay the 80 bucks a year. And always remember: EPC is NOT a schematic diagram and parts for a complete system might be scattered across main groupings...but if you’re semi-clever, you can figure it out.

The free EPCs do NOT update often enough...and can steer you wrong.

If you go with an older Mercedes-Benz, join the MBCA in your local area -you’ll get good discounts on parts at your local dealer.

The wiring harness in question in the W140 is a dealer part - and pricey. They do degrade in model years prior to 1995.

The straight six engines are good, but go for the M119 V8, if you can. Easier to find parts, and doesn’t blow out head gaskets as often.

Remember - these were 100k cars...they still have to be maintained like 100k cars - proper fluids, regular dealer service for the stuff you can’t do, and pay attention to suspension rubber - all these cars are old enough to need new, no matter the miles.

Ah, the depreciation argument...

Does everything you own appreciate in value...except your car?

Who cares about depreciation - a car isn’t an investment...it’s a tool.

I can’t get over how shit tier the E60 interior is

Attached: 3775020.jpg (600x960, 133K)

When I was a kid I got a 1:18 scale model of one of these. Then like a year later my dad took me to the dealer to see one in person. The salesman let me sit inside of it. I still remember having my 9 year old mind blown when I saw the drivers window drop down when I opened the door.

They’re complete maintenance nightmares but they’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

If you're interested, Harry's Garage did a very interesting comparison between the early and late model Range Rovers

youtube.com/watch?v=aJeCMcVIdZo

they are poorfag cars that cost nothing. Once yours break just buy another one.
Any audi that is more than 5 years old is a literal shit box

what headaches?
>premix
>wait for it to warm up
>wait for it to cool down
>redline it daily
>drive it daily
>invest in cooling
and its as reliable as any other mazda.
>oh no once 100,000 km you need to change the apex seals
thats like once in 5 years, big deal

The C215 does not have airmatic. They all came with ABC.

Parts are more expensive, but failures can be prevented by regular fluid changes.

This. It's a car and it's going to be one of the most important possessions you own, you should get the best bang for your buck regardless of "depreciation"

Oh god I'd LOVE one. I lived in the UAE for a few years as a kid (8-9 years old) and my friend's dad had one. He'd take me and my friend out for a drive in it once in a while and we always had a huge blast. Ever since it's been on my list of cars that I have to own at some point in my life.

>Pic related, looked exactly like that
