Just fought a Barroth for the first time.
I skipped 3rd gen and went straight from FU to 4U, so I've spent all this time thinking it was just baby's first Brute Wyvern, but it wasn't actually that bad. Glad it's coming back in World, at least

XX is different? How? It's literally successor of 2 > 2G > 3P. 3DS version still plays like a PSP game for fuck's sake.

The only thing that I hate about barroth (which is a gripe that I have with a TON of monsters) is that the tail attacks are just a real pain in the ass to deal with.
I hate how you always take the same amount of damage regardless of what frame of animation you get hit on with a tail swing, and barroth's charge has that annoying tail swing at the end which never fails to infuriate me.

Scrubs can't beat super deviants even with adept, brave, and absolutes so they call the whole game shit while they beat off to FU and P3rd.

I haven't played XX but I got bored with X at endgame. The deviant system just isn't fun. At least with 140s in 4U, there is some significant rewards to doing it but I never really felt the tedious deviant shit worth it.

A weapon with whip-like attacks/movement and the big boomerang that was gonna be in Gen seem like concepts that could actually fit into the current line-up and offer something new without stepping on too many toes.

I wouldn't say I hate it. If it weren't mainline MH I wouldn't even dislike it, I would treat it like Stories (which I played to the end, uninstalled, and was satisfied with the experience- I did the same thing with XX except I did not feel satisfied at the end, just annoyed). It's still a decent, engaging albeit easy ARPG, and while the framerate is terrible it's still playable.

Thing is, once I tried all the brave styles, beat Atlal-ka and made all its gear and hunted a few things with said gear, I felt like I was done and had seen all this game had to offer me that 4U doesn't, and had gotten to the point where I would enjoy putting more time into 4U (which I have ~2000 hours in) or even 3U (which I have ~500 hours in) than XX (which I have ~60 hours in). It's only natural to compare it to these other games because it IS mainline and that means there IS a certain standard it should be held to, and it fails very badly to meet that standard.

As for why, if I nitpick I could fill like five posts to character limit, but here's a short list of the major points
>all the problems X/Gen had, which were severe- The most severe are that styles are shit, most arts are shit, about a third of the weapons do not actually have a "guild" (ie 4U) style and the best they have in lieu of that is a striker style that takes them all the way back to FU/Tri movesets/mechanics, and the skill system is broken, with crit stacking being the only relevant way to play any weapon and styles/arts making utility skills irrelevant
>the most fun brave styles in theory are either so overpowered they make the game boring (LS, DB, HBG) or so weak that it's hard to justify using them (SnS and Lance)
>alchemy style is a lazy copout and only has a unique tradeoff for GL
>only a few monsters give good gear, japs hunt atlal-ka almost exclusively
>the aesthetic, pace and style of gameplay and aesthetic make it feel more like a spectacle fighter than a monster hunter

That's pretty much it, except Brave DB isn't overpowered, it's actually quite weak.
It was the great wall in Tri(and its best performance too) and was absent from 4.

Actually killtimes/dps isn't necessarily what I mean when I say overpowered. Brave DB is op the same way adept DB is, it's like enabling godmode because you become untouchable and instead of losing damage by spamming dodges/"turtling" it's just another method of dealing damage.

It's a boring game with all the fun of hunting monster taken so it really doesn't even feel like a monster hunter game but more like any other action game like Bayonetta or DMC. I'm glad Capcom is dropping it for the superior World.
