My brother had a 95 300 diesel for a few months. It started and ran rough when cold and sometimes just wouldn't start. We figured out that it was a glow system issue and leaned that the wire insulation they used is fucking biodegradable. No joke, we cut open the main engine wiring harness and a bunch of dust that used to be insualtion fell out and all the wires were touching eachother.

Half of the plugs were seized in the block and one of them just spun free but still wouldn't come out.

That being said, driving and working on it, it felt so damn solid I can see why people like these things. I wouldn't ever want to depend on one though.

Because I have a much more reliable Honda that has already outlasted 90% of Mercs sold from the same year (2009), has needed nothing extra outside of normal maintenance, and is fun.

Worked on a few German cars, and it all works pretty well, but they just have a very different philosophy when it comes to making shit work. Makes shit like changing a radiator out an 10 hour job over 3 days because they have the clamps for the hoses inside of a bracket, which is all rusted up because East Coast

I ended buying a Passat instead of a W203. Cheaper to buy an run, abit better looking and far more comfortable with more interior options. On the W203 you pay the badge really, not the car.
Same thing was going on with the E46 and E90 3 series. Buck for buck, the Passat had them licked. And no, I am not impressed by an 130 bhp, 2.0 litre engined 3 series.

My grandfather owns the 180 Kompressor, he's had it for years now and it runs fine despite his hundreds of shitty mods he does to it weekly and the fact that he only services it himself. I've always thought they've looked boring but he's actually managed to make it look decent.

Yes, Japanese brands don't sell that much in europe. In France, it is cheaper to maintain old french cars than gookshit as well because spare parts are cheaper and easier to find. German brands are also cheaper. An E36 is cheaper to buy and maintain than a 90s civic.
