The best sports car for $9k
Is a $3k e36 tier shitbox with $5k in mods and a $1k tire and brake budget

You could've just said E36 M3

Too easy

A $9k one will be so broken that you really have to baby it so it won’t die on you
Why buy a sports car if you can’t thrash it?

>Has fucking truck suspension
>""""""""Sports"""""""" car

>getting beat by something with leaf springs
how does it feel, japan?

Have they really gone up in value that much? I used to own two of them. One was supercharged.

>$9000

Can get one of those here for £5k with

At least in europe they did
You are lucky to find even a shitty one for 10k most trade at 15-20 with clean ones going as far as 25
But then again you probably are american with a totally different market (where you can’t even buy a real m3)

>E36 M3
>25k

You mean E92?

I wish I were

>real M3

The only thing different was the engine and rotors. US M3s were $20k USD cheaper than Euro M3s to make up for it when they were new (Americans almost never got M cars after the E30 and E34 Ms had really poor sales from being so expensive, if America got the E36 Euro Motor it would’ve been more in line with Porsche 911 pricing and not base model NA 300ZX/Supra pricing which is why it sold so well). The US M3 also had shorter gearing to make up for the loss of power so the difference isn’t as much as you’d think.

>truck suspension
They’re carbon fiber leaf springs used in lieu of swaybars placed horizontally, lol.

Sorry I didn’t intend to offend you
as you said the usdm m3 has always been the cheaper option so it’s no wonder that they still aren’t as desirable and command a lower price

No it’s fine, I had one. I hated it for being a huge lemon but it handled and felt great. The only differences were really just engine, trans (6spd which was just a 5spd with a extra gear), floating vs solid rotors, plastic vs glass headlights, and the Euro cars being better optioned. Otherwise identical suspension/chassis, interior, and brake calipers.

Everyone idolizes the Euro M3s forgetting that they were much more expensive new and wouldn’t have sold as well as they did if they cost a full 1/3rd more. Without the US M3 there wouldn’t be a business case for M cars in the North American market. BMWCCA (BMW car club in America) had to beg BMW Germany to bring the E36 M3 over with a letter writing campaign in 93-94.

BMW dealers in America couldn’t give away E30 M3s and E34 M5s without huge discounts off their original MSRP. So BMW decontented the US Spec M3, made it $4-6000 more than a 325i/328i, and instead sold a ton of them (why would you buy a N/A Japanese Sports car like a SC300 when you can have a BMW?) enough that they gladly brought over the E46 M3.

And I forgot to add: the Euro M3 engines have a ton of parts going NLA (no longer available).

The 3.2s especially (VANOS solenoids and bearings for example). US S52s don’t have to worry about that being based off the common M52/54. It’s a simpler more reliable motor being just a bored out 328i Motor with cams.

I’d personally just stick to a 350Z or a LS1 F-Body. C4 Corvettes kinda have expensive suspension/chassis bits and discontinued parts.

>pony car
Rejected
Although I do like those
>Local idiot takes top gear nonsense at face value

Z33s are actually similar in layout and performance to 4th Gens. I like the 4th Gens for having cheaper parts and mods.

Z33 vs LS1
>230-250whp (+30whp for HRs) vs 280-300whp
>53/47 vs 56/44 weight distribution
>3200-3300lbs vs 3300-3400lbs
>Both cars are very hard on brakes and hubs (LS1 has aftermarket hubs, Z33s can run Z34 hubs)
>Z33 has more sophisticated ABS but requires a staggered setup (20mm difference) to keep it from going crazy and interfering with stability control (common setup is 275 rear 255 front)
>LS1 has 1990s ABS but can easily run a squared setup and fit more tire (275s stock, up to 315s)
>Both have strong transmissions but have clutch hydraulic issues
>Z33 is capable of handling better but LS1 has more power and fits more tire
>Z33 has more sophisticated suspension that’ll mostly be worn out by now vs LS1 simple caveman suspension

Agreed. The 350z is nice although the 370z is superior as it weighs even less. That being said the 350z is still fast and balanced

This is the only correct answer

The previous gen z car is better.

only if youre american and you are scared of cornering.
e30 makes for a better base for a tuned since it is heaps lighter than the landbarge good-for-nothing e36
actualyl MRS

>its not pigfat pos if it weighs 3x more and is american
nice double standards

Is that true about running a square setup on a z33?

Replacing bushings and shocks doesn't scare me and I'm more interested in good handling vs. straight line performance, but the 4th gen SS/Z28 has always been a favorite of mine anyway

>C4 Corvette can't handle
>Shitbox from the 80s is a better base
>Some four banger midship, the most powerful of them all which made 200 horsepower, is a better buy than a z33

Wow, how's grade 10 going

Range is anywhere from around $4k for a real piece if shit to $20k for a Nismo v2 with five thousand miles on it. I'm looking for a 03-04 track with under 75k, so it's going to fall around the middle

What are you doing on a car board if you have never held a steering wheel?
