That's a lie. They are still very squishy. You can blow up their phases faster than normal Atziri clones, though you have to be careful to not die to books and all shit on screen.

beachheads are profitable to run so there's no reason to do rotas unless you enjoy your epic player interaction

people just take turns opening a map and then you run it until everyone has done theirs. there is always the risk of someone leeching the rotation but those guys get blacklisted
