Why is no one playing the new quake game? Whats wrong with it?

I honestly believe the spawns are evil. I've had several moments where I would respawn directly in the path of the enemy quad multiple times in a row.

And recently I was able to get seven or so kills all in the same area because the enemy team would spawn just outside my view so when they turned the corner, bam, dead.

I'm not angry at losing to better players, it happens often when I play duel but there I can glean what I did wrong and work to avoid such a situation.

It's just I feel when I'm playing against only one player I do a lot better than in the other modes where I'm playing with seven other players contending for pickups and weapons all the time.

I didn't say angry, I said faulting. That's what tryhard means, it means they're trying and that's bad. Where's that old chess comic when I need it.
The reason is possibly them having a better stack than people in DM/TDM who might be fresh spawns or only managed to pick up a gun so far.

When I said tryhard I didn't mean anything negative, I was wondering if I should focus on playing duel if I wanted to improve since one on one seems more intimate in it's combat.

I'm not saying the enemy being better or trying to win is bad when I called it tryhard, but rather since there's more effort put into winning and since it's a 1v1 where the two of us are on a level playing field as opposed to the other modes that I should be playing it more.

You should focus on duel but you'll probably be in a bad spot until full release and an actual ranking system comes around, but it's possible to see being placed against literal pros and quakedads as a good thing, since unlike when that happens in TDM/DM you're not just spawnfucked immediately but you actually have at least some sort of chance to examine what you did wrong. Which in my case seems to be bad timing more than anything else, so maybe work on that for the megas?
Yes duel (along with sac but not really with sac at all) is the more competitive mode. Tryhard has negative connotations, console fps kids always use it when they lose.

I do have some trouble timing items, but my real problem is keeping track of whatever item the enemy spawned near. Also accuracy is my biggest failing, I saw vids of using the LG against bots in Quake Live so I thought I could try that.

Well I'm not sure how to know what they spawned near without hearing them, seeing them, seeing the item gone, or intuition based off your own spawn since it probably won't be like, touching you.
When it comes to accuracy look at this chart. While /arena/ will tell you any sensitivity works and you just need to practice, you should consider averages on top of practice. The kind of practice with bots seems good, shame there's no custom maps or bots in this version of the game.

I play at 50. Used to play at 60.
My LG suffers from raising it so high, it feels kinda twitchy, but I didn't have enough vertical room on my mousepad. The "slow" or "sluggish" movement can be compensated for with only a little bit of practice. Tennis players ain't slow when they move their arms.

Sorlag's passive ability is bunny hopping. But I'm pretty sure I can bunny hop just fine as Ranger for example. What gives?
