Yes, Sharon is still the best choice for new players to progress "quickly" and Loki is still a decent choice, the pastebin in the OP has good alternatives if you don't want to pick him.

Because you get access to 7 farmable characters total, little bits of custom gear and isos, and the fact that Strange has yet to become obsolete almost a year from coming out, sure maybe power creeped slightly, but he still has plenty of uses.
