Was Rennaisance White Jesus modeled off

...

was the image of Jesus being a white man modeled off Cesare Borgia?

GOOGLE: JESUS PORTRAITS/JESUS ICONOGRAPHY AND YOU'LL SE THAT IT'S BULLHIT, WE'RE IN THE FUCKING AGE OF THE INTERNET, ARE YOU REALLY THAT DUMB THAT YOU HAVE TO BE SPOONFEEDED SUCH AN EASILY OBTAINABLE INFORMATION?

THE ANSWER IS OBVIOUSLY NO, FUCKTARD.

its a common belief that Rennaisance figures whitewashed jesus to make him Caucasian and used Cesare Borgia as a model

It's not a common belief and you don't even know how to troll.

Le we wuz meme is horribly out dated and over used to the extreme, come up with something new.

Then why are there so many goddamm depictions of Jesus as a white man when he was a Jewish Arab who most likely had darker skin

If your not telling me there is a white supremacist ideology why these painters painted him white then you are simply in the wrong

(you) epic

>Le we wuz kiings xDDDD

again why can't you tell me reason why there are many depictions of Jesus as white?

Because they were made by Europeans and imagined him as themselves, Chinese depictions or Ethiopian depictions depict him their race, even ancient Greek thinkers understood that each ethnic group represented the Gods with their specific features

Same reason why Chinese Christians usually depict Jesus as Asian. Religion doesn't tend to emphasize strict historical accuracy.

he was not an arab. Jews arwwhite

Jesus was portrayed as white hundreds of years before the Borgias even existed.

>whitewashed jesus to make him Caucasian
Semitic people count as Caucasians.
Jesus wuz not black.

literally never heard this before so it must be a very, very old 'common belief'. jesus has been depicted as white since the earliest images of him. it could either be helios or the imperial cult but the people who depicted him depicted him with their skin colour

bearded christ dates back at least to the 6th century but probably earlier

this. there are manuscripts dating from the crusades where arabs depicted white people as arab. socrates is an example

Cesare Borgia was half italian half spanish. Aren't southern euros not supposed to be white?

>whitewashed
You don't know what that word means.

all depictions of christ are symbolic more than anything, the notion that anyone, ever, anywhere, even in earliest times of christianity, ever depicted jesus '''accurately''' or cared to do so is absurdity

in fact first depictions of christ were criptic, a child sheperd, a lamb or a fowl, or even a griffin, later bizantine depictions were done in the same stile as all bizantine state-art, to convey power, authority etc... the christos pantocratos and so on, its not like they didnt know what middle easterners look like, it just didnt realy come into it
post-schism roman versions were similar, just styled in roman way, and often with more symbolism involved, lambs and doves and stuff like that, but most catholic depictions of christ became more and more fetishistic as other european populations got christianised, so the romanic christ of the 10-12 century is like a transcendent pagan deity, staring you into submission from a cross that isnt something hes crucified on, but almost like a seat of power, hes hovering up there on sheere awesome
ghotic christ suddenly becomes way more human, not just cause sculpture schools started going for realism, but because the little ice age got to people, hunger and plauge and such, so gothic jesus is all suffering, starving, bleeding, dying, ribs and stomach falling out, eyes retracting into the scull, or, as in flaman tradition, so human you can totaly relate, like a version of yourself but liberated/enlightened

reneisanse breaks out of this as reneisanse generaly goes out of its way to break with everithing gothic, and by then the idea that christ had skincolor is as immaterial as the number of teeth jesus might have still had in his mouth at the moment of death

manerist/baroque christ is usualy modeled after michelangelos depictions, so hes all buffed up and manly which again is symbolic, and later depictions are variations on the subject and combinations of previous versions, and so on, and so on, and so on...

Cesare was a spic but Jesus was a Proud White German so obv no.

He wasn't an arab.

>jesus has been depicted as white since the earliest images of him
What

How is this less white than Borgia?

The only difference is that Borgia's beard is medium brown and not dark brown, if anything the Jesus you posted has a paler skin than Borgia.

Here's Cesare Borgia, doesn't look any whiter

Forgot the picture for fuck's sake

He looks levantine, which he was, this is a very early depiction of Christ.

He doesn't look any more Levantine than Borgia does, and also he doesn't look like the typical Levantine seeing how pale he is, he could easily pass as the average Greek or an Italian

any depiction of jesus was modeled after a model since painters and sculptors used models to model the depictions

sometimes, often in fact, the models used were prominent individuals, sometimes patrons, even if posing as jesus wouldnt realy be seen as very pious, but reneissanse people often werent very pious

other than that, almost all religious depictions are also modeled after the local ethnic majority, or the ethnicity of whoever is in power and orders the depiction to be produced

similarly, pic related was indian, of whichever ethnicity, but more often than not hes depicted as more or less central-east asian, tibetan, chinese, thai etc... as he is usualy depicted by tibetans, chinese, thai etc...

get the logic here?

The clearly weren't all modeled after a particular patron seeing how he's almost always depcited as a narrow faced-longhaired-straight narrow nosed individual

this

they also werent all made by the same artist either, or in the same time period, or the same culture, or in the same technique, or in the same media, or in the same style, or in the same size, or the same color-scheme, or in the same typical pose, or for the same cult purpose, or including the same motifs, or depicting the same part of the narative, or...

>The clearly weren't all modeled after a particular patron seeing how he's almost always depcited as a narrow faced-longhaired-straight narrow nosed individual

There's no reason that meme could not have started with one particular model.

It might but that model wasn't surely Borgia seeing how that kind of iconography predates him by like 800 years at least

WE WUZ MESSIAHS AN SHEEIT

the typical levantine of today. But your typical levantine 2000 years ago was paler then your typical greek, or at least todays greeks. Arabs grouped levantines together with persians and europeans as white. Ancient greeks noted that persians were ligjter skineed than themselves

its modeled after jews/mediterraneans

>Semites
>not Caucasian

Sure thing Mohammed

Silent empty prayers

well speaking of muhammed, he said that jesus was a redhead with light skin. So during muhammeds life time middle eastern jews were stereotyped as light skinned and ginger

Excluding the color of skin, the general model for depicting Jesus was established by the 5th century I believe.
