One or two hours every other day and 4-6 on a weekend, this game shits renown and although I agree the DLC ops tend to be strong as fuck, the game makes it entirely reasonable for you to get them for free.

The two games are VERY loosely connected story and gameplay wise. Some of the designers admitted to never even playing guild wars 1. So in short, no, you do not need to play the first game to know whats going on. That being said GW1 still has players and the way the hero system works allows you to play the game as a single player RPG and for that its pretty wonderful and very unique. If you have an extra $30 to throw at a game you will likely get at least 50 hours of playtime out of it so it is worth picking up just to play through the campaigns if you havnt before.
