not only was he fluent in turkish, arabic, persian, greek, italian, serbian(and probably a few other languages) but he also knew engineering, mathematics, war theory. when he took constantinople he ordered the library to be translated to arabic(which was the science language of east at the time) immediately and even worked with multiple european scholars. he wrote poems(like most ottoman rulers) and knew both islamic and christian theologies(he used the orthodox church against the latins)

He took a corrupt and divided republic and, despite all opposition against him, left it a flourishing empire that ushered in an age of relative peace and stability for the Mediterranean for 200 years. I don't know about you, but that sounds much more impressive then ending the misery of a decrepit empire and earning the butthurt of the balkans for half a millennium.
