This shit is going to kill UPS and FedEx. And as someone that's worked for UPS all i can do is laugh, They pay fucking slave wages and treat people like shit.

UPS pays like shit or Amazon does?

I hear working on the low end at either one is a horrible experience.

What's his endgame Veeky Forums?

Pay is shit initially, but it's a union job with benefits

Detected the Amazon shill

I forgot to add I was referring to UPS, whom I work for

>They pay fucking slave wages and treat people like shit.

Well, good thing that Amazon won't have any people to pay since all of it will be employee free and full of drones!

What is Amazon gonna do when there is nobody left to buy their shit?

>"going to kill UPS"
>is in-house delivery service
>only used when UPS/FedEx/USPS/etc. would charge too much
>a pleb tier option
>only used for deliveries that wouldn't have existed otherwise anyway

That goes for any company that fully automates eventually. If nobody had a job to provide some sort of income, then nobody will be buying any companys products

Humans think they are entitled to have babies, so they will never stop having babies, so amazon will never run out of humans to sell shit to.

They will probably scale it up if it works. Paying some moron $11/hr is a lot cheaper than contracting with UPS for a guy who makes a lot more and drives an expensive truck that has to be maintained.

Drones are not a realistic option and never will be

Especially in urban areas

Fellow UPSer here,
Cannot wait till they force weekends on us, to keep amazon in their pocket.
God fuck UPS. A Billion dollar fortune 500 company that still insists on stealing employee time.

Completely wrong.
Amazon is expanding there delivery. They have their own daily drivers. Which are dedicated local deliveries. They have Amazon flex drivers for people wanting to make side money that works 24/7 unlike UPS. Literally 9am sunday morning Amazon is out there.

They ...used with permission some of UPS's map routes to copy and implement into their own system.

Amazon now has its own Boeing Cargo plane for air delivery, Which was all done by UPS due to their massive infrastructure. They're working testing same day drone delivery for two years now.

To say Amazon is gonna rely on UPS forever is naive. Within 5 years I expect them to transfer most of their shipping to in-house. UPS is already bleeding from Amazons high volume, low margin business. When they take it elsewhere, don't be suprised to see a hiring freeze at UPS.

My good sir the future is coming. only insight I'll give in this thread; invest in corporations that will be self governing. I wont list the house bills in route to Congress you monkeys can do a little bit of work if you want to know.

Through their actions indirectly and directly, Amazon is accelerating the development and adoption of drone delivery and self driving trucks. Make no mistake. This service is being used now for when UPS/FedEx/USPS won't work atm, but what's really happening is Amazon is building an infrastructure for nationwide deliveries(other counties as well eventually).

At some point they will start renewing contracts for fewer and fewer deliveries, using the other services eventually only for overflow deliveries during the holidays.

At first this will be a huge deal in terms of new jobs, but eventually we'll see the development of more automated systems for things like warehousing and parts pulling, self driving trucks and drones, leaving fewer, but better/well-payed jobs for actual people in the long term.

Long term this will force the big name delivery companies to adopt more automated systems as well and possibly merge with each other and expand into other newer services to survive. Like maybe a FedEx moving service, food delivery, etc.

All said and done, we will see reduced jobs in the parcel and freight delivery industries overall, but see better service.

Go to college or tech school kids or yer fucked.

>self driving trucks
wouldn't surprise me if these are out within a year or two
IIRC they're already doing significant self driving car testing and self driving buses

Self driving trucks will be largely interstate only vehicles. Theres just too much to program to make them handle city traffic.

They will still require a driver to be in the cab in most states for safety reasons but since the driver can basically just sit back and watch tv the whole time the company will pay them a lot less so the trucking industry as a job that you can live on and start a family with is about to go bye bye. The effects of this will be what eventually kicks off french revolution 2.0 if UBI isn't implemented.

Waaaaah someone employed me Waaaah.

Agreed, regarding city traffic and driver in cabin. But then they just need to get the trucks to deliver from hubs to warehouses. And long term, you'll see nation wide fully automated trucks with no drivers in the end - like years from now. I could see like having cameras and a security service to monitor multiple vehicles at once... And eventually even that being automated.

About the revolution. I see that being a potential as well. Unless we go to a seriously socialist state, which would no doubt end up in lots of regulations on how people live their lives in return for being paid for by the state. Also ending in french revolution 2.0

Fuck man. I wish I could be born AFTER that happens and we find utopia.. Or the Matrix.

That's all companies...I really wanna stop wage slaving..

so its like uber but for amazon deliveries?

thats fucking genius

Budwiser did a 110-120 mile journey with an Ottoman truck almost fully independent except for backing onto duck which major companies have seperate divisions that only park the trucks. And the exit ramps.

With the salary of a UPS driver starting at 19.50 and capping at 36.50 that their biggest expensive. Labor. Factor in the OT they get in peak season along with their generous benefits and 401k, and company stock buying options.

After installing even a 100k system in each truck would pay itself off in a year. Way easier to hire "tech" to troubleshoot on the road. For a lower wage and outsource mechanics.

I used to be an OTR truck driver. Worst job i ever did. You basically live in the truck for 3 weeks straight, they claim they will get you home every week but that is a lie. I made on average about $400 to $450 per week but theres a catch, When your on the road you have a lot of expenses. Showers, Food, Weight tickets, Traffic tickets, Sometimes you need clothes and other personal stuff. I probably spent $200 per week just on food alone for myself, You eat out pretty much every meal because it's hard to store food and then cook that food on the go, It can be done but it's not easy. At the end of the week i made more working at walmart and didn't have to do a 3rd of the work and i got to home at night and sleep in my own bed.

Trust me it's a meme.

The trucking industry is already fucked, you can't raise a family on that income when comparing the wage vs cost of living in today's time back to the 50s and 60s
