Reminder that you should never polymodel complex meshes like characters from scratch. If you are, you're slowing yourself down and getting worse results.

Use a drawing tablet with pressure sensitivity if you have one.

Doesn't matter; everything has to be low-poly for a game.
People assume what I'm saying is sculpting vs poly-modelling, but it isn't really. It's good workflow vs poor workflow.
If you polymodel characters from scratch, every edge loop you add to a curved surface will change the shape and topology, which will look very ugly if it isn't heavily refined, which takes forever and still won't give you the best results.
If you create a block mesh (be it through sculpting or simple blocking), it's basically free consistency for your shape. There's literally no reason not to do it, but people watch Darrin Lile's tutorials and think they have it all figured out when all they learned was the poor way.

In Blender is it possible to select the mirror of what you have currently selected? Not change the mesh at all, just change my selection to be flipped.

This is pretty much common knowledge.

Then why does Boku animate in Unity?

Isn't his game just cubes that rotate and bounce sometimes? It probably isn't any harder to animate something as simple as that in-engine.
But for typical animated models with bones, Blender is where you should animate.

Boku has !!!180!!! draw state changes, I wouldn't follow anything he does

boku had to hire a programmer because he created such a mess he couldn't work on his game anymore.
i'm pretty sure it's safe to say most of what he does is bad practice.

you can do 3d trails

3d smears are harder but it is possible, fighting games do it and overwatch does some drastic deformation for some frames, but i don't know if they go full smear

Yeah, stretching and squashing in animation can be done in 3D.
