Similar stuff also happened in BC. There was an attempted law that would have banned Asiatic migration based on accusations of them being filthy and spreading disease, and multiple race riots that resulted in Asian portions of Vancouver getting stormed. Early socialist agitation also focused a lot on trying to protect white workers from having to compete with Asian laborers, who were viewed as driving wages down and reducing the effectiveness of strikes.
