What do those of you without a college degree do for work? I have found myself in a fucked up position currently 31 years old with high school diploma, living in a pretty impoverish town where I was born and raised with my wife and 2 kids on the family farm i inherited, I have 20 beef cows that I sell calves from but it doesn't really make a profit, I have been self employed since 2008 in some form or another auto dealer, scrap metal buyer, and farmer... kids I graduated with who went on to college came back with their degrees and went to work along side the dropouts as there is no demand for work that requires a degree here. My question is what should I do? I have a few stipulations...1. Im not moving away. 2. im not going to work at the local factory as a nigger. I do not mind working hard but not to make someone else rich while destroying my body for maybe $350 a week, help what can I do? I have around $8,000 I could invest in something worthwhile...also what do you do for work?

Meh, i tried driving a dumptruck in pretty much your position. And a bilion other things. I find jumping in equipment to be the easiest and best money. I can drive anything with wheels. Most things without.... its not glamourous. But it pays alright and i get to dig my own bunker now.

OK, here's the deal. You need to reframe your situation. You are already further along the path to self-sufficiency without even trying than most people ever get. You have a home and plenty of land you own with clear title and the skills to utilize it. You want to stay where you are, you don't want to work in a factory, you don't mind working hard but you want to do it for yourself. There's only one thing you don't have, the ability to feed yourself and your family from your own produce, and even then you've covered the hardest part of that (livestock, especially cattle). This is a gold mine, there are millions of people out there who would give their left nut to be handed this situation. I'm 31 as well with a master's, married and 3 kids, and I'm trying to get where you already are. Think about that for a second.
So, it's time to scale up that veggie garden. Pick the best soil on your land within sight of your house and get tilling. Start with whatever size you had before and expand once you get the original areas established. Grow anything that survives in your area, but enough of each, maybe at least one row of everything. Or better yet, Google "forest gardening" and do that. Assuming the beef remains available you only need a few acres for your own family. Wife know how to can food? She needs to learn. Get the kids out there picking food, they love that shit. Get some chickens, get some milk cows. Chickens are relatively low-maintenance and you're already dealing with cattle.
Once you get settled in with that, start trying for a surplus. Then you sell it, you're already selling the calves anyway. Farmers' market, co-op, Craigslist, whatever. Call your neighbors, use Craigslist, sell it out of a stand at the end of the lane like Letterkenny. Do it on a cash basis and you have tax-free income.
